Cheats never prosper. Unless your a Bush.

How can any of you vote for bush after he cheated in 2000? Fcuk his politics, views etc. How can you possible live with yourself, you might as well send drug doping cheats to the olymics.

Just for this reason alone, how can the Republican party nominate him as a candiate. Land of the free my backside. Especially after seeing his "victory" parade at his inauagtion.

Revolution people, revolution. The French had the right idea, chop there fooking heads off.

Cheat? You mean because he won the election? Cheating's a bit of a stretch, no?

He lucked out by having the controversy in his brother's home state. He lucked out by having the supreme court justices completely shame their office by acting based on politics instead of constitutional guidelines.

But cheating? That's a bit of a stretch. It's the Supreme Court that should be ashamed of 2000, not G Dubya. He may have benefited, but he didn't commit the crime.

BTW, you can read the Supreme Court Opinions here: http://supct.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/00-949.ZPC.html

It's really awful how they completely ignored two centuries of precedent, and, for all you republicans out there, totally contradicted one of the primary conservative principles: smaller, less powerful federal government and states' rights.

I guess that principle is important, unless it means you'll lose.

I agree it's absolutely shameful how anyone could have ever voted for Bill Clinton...that's the cheat we're talking about right?

I think the past four years have shown us that that principle of conservatism was more born of the fact that the dems held the power of the purse for so long. Now that the republicans have the WH and both houses of congress, that principle has completely fallen by the way side in their attempt to consolidate power. And now I hear that Delay has co-sponsored a bill to impose a national sales tax. Maybe the republicans will turn out to be a tax & spend party when they have the power.

On topic though, Dubya won because of the Electoral College. Whether you agree with it or not, calling him a cheat for winning because of that shows your ignorance in the American political construct.

And guess what, its definetely a possibility that Dubya could lose the popular vote again, and still win, again. Its also a possibility this year that the Electoral votes will come out completely even, leaving it solely on the popular vote.

Not to be too nit-picky, but the real reason Dubya won was the Supreme Court...without their tortured equal protection argument, Bush probably would not have won Florida (rightly or wrongly).

Bush would have won even with the recount, problem is you can't make up the rules after the fact as Florida tried to do. They were faced with a problem and tried to come up with new election rules, can't do that. You have to use the rules you have even if statistically speaking the error involved in the vote count especially with the god-dam lame ass chads was mathematically a tie. Seriously, if you ended up recounting and recounting with the same rules applied, it could have gone to either Bush or Gore again given the error. The whole election process needs reform, but the first thing is that we shouldn't have the electoral points divided up for each state and given to only one winner. They should have the winner get a couple more than the other and the rest of the electoral points split up between the two candidates who earned them (for each state). This way the win would be more decisive. Sucks but that's probably the best way to do it.
