I guess he's leaving before Labor Day like Rove per the chief of staff's orders. Regardless, financial reasons seems pretty lame. At some point, Tony Snow will have to admit his real reasons for leaving. I'd guess part of it is having to defend the Bush adminstration everyday is tiring.

I believe this is a strategic move to re-align themselves (Rove, Snow....) with presiential candidates,or better, DC power-brokers in the '08 era. Had the Democrats not made the '08 election an issue in the past few months, I'm pretty sure Rove and Snow would still be there today (for at least a few more months, anyway).
