Seriously, how do you look back at your constituents -- people who are pissed about the warrantless wiretapping and helped the Dems take back Congress -- and say, "Yeah, not only are we not going to investigate this or try to hold Bush accountable, we're actually going to change the law so that warrantless wiretapping is unquestionably legal. Also, we've broadened the scope of such wiretaps. Have a nice day."

In fairness, this really stems primarily from conservative Dems who hold themselves out as centrists, but WTF? John Fucking Ashcroft opposed this program and threatened to quit over it, but you folks think it's OK? What is centrist about being further right than Ashcroft? Forget policy, let's just talk politics for a moment -- why do Democrats feel the need to capitulate to Bush, the least popular president in history? It's lunacy.

Claire McKaskill, the newly elected Democratic Senator from MO isn't what I'd consider a Blue Dog Dem, and she voted for this bill. Guess what we'll be talking about next time she calls to ask for a contribution?
