Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

Nice one on Moore's part...he just rails against Blitzer, CNN and the rest of the mainstream media and makes some nice points.

But my favorite part really is how just after the interview on the handoff to Lou Dobbs, Dobbs just completely marginalizes Moore by saying "He's more of a left-wing promoter than Hugo Chavez."

Way to go Dobbs...Moore's point about MSM in a nutshell.

This is a classic in politics especially nowadays - the most common attempt of discreditation.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

I love it. When Michael Moore gets pounded with some cold hard facts, instead of debating the issues, his response is:

 1. CNN is 'probably' funded by pharmaceutical companies.
 2. That he (Michael Moore) doesn't talk in soundbites.

ALL OF HIS ARGUMENTS ARE SOUNDBITES! That's how he designs his propoganda. By cutting and pasting soundbites, soundbites that are taken out of context to further his agenda.

Fvcking lame-o. That's what you get from the Hollywood left though.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

As the blogsite states below, although France is named as the number one in health care around the world, the costs will inevitably have to be paid by someone:

At the same time, France?s medical costs have been rising sharply, which has led to higher taxes on employers and workers. Meanwhile, the national insurance system has been running deficits since 1985 ? it currently stands at $13.5 billion. And practicing medicine in France often isn?t lucrative ? French doctors earn on average one-third the pay of their U.S. counterparts.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

Typical how you could skewer Moore's words to your liking (ironic as that's what you accuse him of).
1) CNN is 'probably' funded by pharmaceutical companies.
He didn't say probably and didn't say CNN. He made a very clear point about how Gupta's medical show on CNN is always sponsored by some big pharmaceutical company which if you could get past your absolute hatred of the messenger is a very true and unfortunate point. Proof of that was how in Gupta's piece preceding the Moore interview, the only people he interviewed for the piece were from big pharma (where were the doctors or the patients?)

...but you're right, let's call Moore a "fucking lam-o" and then group him in with the rest of the "Hollywood left" and we should just ignore what he actually says because of that.

Amazing how for the sake of bashing Moore, you're even willing to defend CNN...

Oh my god. Are you seriously backing up that lying, fat narcissist? I didn't skewer Moore's words. I'm simply calling it for what it is. Propoganda. He thinks that Sanjay's rebuttals, which were all based on facts, were what Moore takes part in creating: soundbites that are glued together to create a false reality.

But Moore's very first statement was the actual antithesis of his work. He says he doesn't create soundbites, when he does. That's all he ever does. He thinks Sanjay is doing what he is doing, because Moore's world is based on that logic.

Sanjay's reporting was factually based. Moore's is fictional. It's a mired fantasyland. And Gupta just made him look like a baffoon. Instead of rebutting Gupta's statements, he got all offended and used the method of personal attacks and character distortions.

His fat ass is the reason why our health care system is in shambles.

And you have the audacity to talk about Moore's use of soundbytes.

Address the issues rather than the person and we could actually have a discussion about health care, until then you're simply dictating that we should discuss Michael Moore, who for all intents and purposes I don't give two sh*ts about, nor am I much of a supporter of his.
His fat ass is the reason why our health care system is in shambles.
That's a well-rounded argument there (pun intended ;) ) and that childish statement is what you boil your entire discussion down to...

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

2 points.

 1. america's health care does hurt the poor. but we are capitalist. you want something, earn it. and YES THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT, INCLUDING SOCIALIZING MEDICINE AND LIMITING INSURANCE.

 2. mike moore is nothing short of a tampon used by hillary clinton. he is not a documentary filmaker. never was. to document something implies showing truth. he doesnt. never has. everything he has touched has been clearly proven to be BS. his ideas are there, but the message is conveyed in false manner. he is an entertainer who knows the american public is stupid enough to take for fact what he edits down into 2 hour movies making his movies look like hidden camera films.

You know what? This reminds me a lot of the global warming thread. People get so worked up about the messenger that they ignore the message.

Here's the deal: most people that are being candid with you will admit that Michael Moore is an entertainer and shit-stirrer first, and the goal of providing unbiased information on a topic is pretty far down the list. That said, I find his movies pretty entertaining. You just have to go into it with your eyes wide open.

Regardless of what you think of Moore as a person, though, it's tough to argue that the current health care system we have in place is a great one. I'm pretty fortunate in that my wife and I have pretty good health coverage, but there are a lot of people out there -- not people looking for handouts, but hardworking people, small business owners, independent contractors, etc. -- who have to choose between paying really obnoxious premiums for health insurance or rolling the dice and hoping nothing bad happens to them. In a country as prosperous as the US, that's pretty fucked up, and there's gotta be a better way.

We've gotten into this cycle where medical costs continue to rise, insurers continue to pay and they pass those increased costs onto policyholders -- but because insurers are still making money, there's little incentive for them to challenge providers (whose relationship they rely upon to make their insurance desirable) on cost. Businesses and individuals who pay for insurance themselves take the hit.

With that in mind, it's surprising to me that so many people who call themselves Republicans -- who champion the interests of businesses and entrepreneurs -- oppose reform that would ultimately help businesses and entrepreneurs who have to bear this cost. If you're in the medical, pharmaceutical, or insurance field, you have every reason to want the status quo to stay as it is. For the rest of us, though, I don't get it.

The point is that Michael Moore is not "the reason why our health care system is in shambles." We are, for letting this escalation of costs go on so long without being checked. It's time for everyone, republicans and democrats alike, to sit down and figure out a workable solution to this growing problem. I don't know what it is, but I know that bitching about Michael Moore isn't it.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

Michael Moore is a demigod and the ultimate capitalist. He has figured out a way to get rich by producing mediocre fiction that is shopped as documentaries. His "films" are unwatchable.

Moore is a buffoon. And is laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

Moore is an idiot. I'll be damned if I support a system of 300 million people for healthcare. And of course, what's failed to be mentioned is the population out of the uninsured who opt not to have health insurance because they deem themselves healthy or they just don't want to pay into a community rating. The issue here is not to change the model of our system and completely reform it, but to actually start pummeling the HMO's for their strangulation on the system - and this is where it should start.

As for Gupta, it's a slap in the face - the guy is a neurosurgeon. This equates to an undergrad degree, 4 years of medical school, 1 year general surgery residency, 6-9 years neurosurgery residency (keep in mind working 80+ hours/week which breaks the maximum 80 hours/week regulation) and possibly a 2-3 year fellowship for specialization. He graduated from U of Michigan med school with a residency at the school's hospital as well - this in and of itself is no small feat as UofMichigan is one of the top med schools in the country. You really think many doctors of this caliber are willing to be wrapped up in a nice little socialist present? hell no, it doesn't work that way. Couple in high malpractice insurance and you've got a recipe for some really volatile physicians. Oh oh oh and that 10% medicare physician reimbursement cut that's proposed for 2008, gotta love that one. Let's just cut the amount of money that medicare will reimburse but keep malpractice premiums higghhhhh!

To add, Moore doesn't bring up the fact that pharmies also fund the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. In fact, many medical mags are sponsored by big pharma - it's how they make money.

This is as far as I'll go - I will pay for only a small amount of visits per year - routine checkup and some meds. Anything else, and you're on your own.

Re: CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore

anyone see Michael Moore yesterday at the Jay Leno show?

they told him that hes gonna be investigated for those trips he took to Cuba, funny tho, that he took 3- 911 guys that have respiratory illnesses caused from breathing the air from ground zero, he took them to see if they could get health care cuz they were denied here in the US.

im not on the right or left, but damn, like Jay Leno said, you dont have to believe all the stuff michael moore puts on his films, but still if you believe half of whats in there, it should make you think a bit more about the issues.
