This story made my stomach turn :(
A 17-year-old girl has been stoned to death in Iraq because she loved a teenage boy of the wrong religion.

As a horrifying video of the stoning went out on the Internet, the British arm of Amnesty International condemned the death of Du?a Khalil Aswad as "an abhorrent murder" and demanded that her killers be brought to justice.

Reports from Iraq said a local security force witnessed the incident, but did nothing to try to stop it. Now her boyfriend is in hiding in fear for his life.

Miss Aswad, a member of a minority Kurdish religious group called Yezidi, was condemned to death as an "honour killing" by other men in her family and hardline religious leaders because of her relationship with the Sunni Muslim boy.
Full story

And the video that goes with the story nearly made me lose my dinner... http://www.flurl.com/item/Stoning_u_249318

Re: More vile scum in Iraq

Well, that video was certainly a fitting summary of the value of human life over in that part of the world...

So, anyone wanna try to tell me how what I saw there is not indicative of Middle Eastern culture and Islam, and how societies over there don't systematically foster a distinct lack of concern for human life (particularly that of women)?

It's amazing...it's 2007, these people have cell phones, wear sneakers, drive cars...and they're still only one a few meager steps out of the cave in terms of basic social evolution

The girl was a yedizi Kurd, so were her relatives beating her up... You're right on the point of women's rights though. If you wanna know about that first hand: http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/

That was a thing which struck me when I first saw the video: the number of cam phones :|

Re: More vile scum in Iraq

Here's an update for y'all: the father of the girl dug his daughter back up to show the village her hymen was still intact, thus saving his family's honor.

That update made my stomach turn. As for her being killed for loving someone from the wrong religion, doesn't really surprise me. Only mildly shocks me considering all the chaos over there right now.

Re: More vile scum in Iraq

^^^ Myeah, another result was that 24 Yezidi were killed by Sunnis as revenge. And the Iraqi security forces just stood along the sidelines scratching their balls...

So is Iraq better off without Sadam? Obviously not.
