Seriously, this is insulting to our men and women in uniform. We're putting soldiers in harm's way all day, every day, and the Iraqis seem to feel a distinct lack of urgency to do the things that will allow them to get the hell out of Dodge. If they really do go on vacation, we need to take a permanent vacation of our own, stat. :evil:

Yeah I know some security forces troops that just got back from over there, and they said those Iraqi troops are some lazy SOB's. Sometimes they don't even show up for work at all, meanwhile our peeps are there trying to get stuff done so they can get out of there.

this deserves a bump. We know from the interim progress report that the Iraqis have made unsatisfactory progress on something like 8-10 of the 18 benchmarks we set for them. Of those that were deemed unsatisfactory, my understanding is that most of them have to do with matters of a political, diplomatic, or legislative nature.

With these fuckers getting ready to go on vacation for the rest of the summer, what exactly is the point of waiting until September? Are we expecting something to change on that front during the time that the Iraqi Parliament is not working?

It took me a long time to get on this boat, but here's my current stance on Iraq:

It actually took me a while to fully embrace the "get the fuck out of Dodge" approach to the Iraq war, too (notwithstanding that I didn't think we should have gone into Iraq when we did, before finishing things up in Afghanistan). My thought was that we fucked it up, for better or for worse, and we had a responsibility to help clean up our mess.

The truth of the matter, though, is that we've done all that we can do militarily there. We're now relying upon the Iraqis to help up pick up this mess, but they evidently don't care enough about their war-torn country or the mounting body count to postpone their fucking vacations. If they don't want to put the effort into stabilizing the country, I'm not sure why we should anymore. A pox on all their houses, we need to get our guys back home, or at least somewhere where their efforts are appreciated.
