Should Imus resign?

It seems like now days that whenever anyone makes a comment that is in bad taste, could be construed as racist everyone on the other side demands that that person resign/quit/kill themselves immediately. This makes me laugh. Imus' comment wasnt anything close to the Kramer melt down a few months ago, but everyone who wants him to resign seems to think that he is James Earl Ray himself.

Re: Should Imus resign?

I say no. I don't really listen to Imus, but people are blowing some of this stuff way out of hand. If he made a public apoligy that should be enough. Hell donate some money to the basketball team if it smooths things over, but move on. Let the first person step forward, who hasn't made a comment that wasn't in good taste or form and you will have an extremely short line! :!:

Re: Should Imus resign?

It was a bone-headed thing to say, but I have a tough time believing it was actually intended to be mean-spirited or that he's truly racist. I say no.

Re: Should Imus resign?

not at all. it is overblown because that fat pig witht he big mouth got involved. imus makes fun of everyone and anyone from anywhere. funny how sharpton goes bat shit over this, but wont say a damn thing to anyone who is black when they actually say shit far worse than what imus said. sharpton is the biggest racist in this fiasco.

i have listened to imus for about 15 years now, and this isnt anything new. they say it just to provoke.

Re: Should Imus resign?

brian williams just announced that imus is being suspended for 2 weeks.

ppl in this country need to quit being a bunch of winy pusses and quit getting upset about stupid shit

Re: Should Imus resign?

only from the TV simulcast. he will still be on WFAN and its website here in NYC.

tomorrow, btw, begins the station's charity drive, for kids with cancer, and other diseases. i volunteer every year for this, and this is no different.

Re: Should Imus resign?

^^ahhhh thx for clearing it up, sounded like from the news he was off the air for 2 weeks

Re: Should Imus resign?

I have never listened to a single second of Imus, so I barely even know who he is. Frankly, I don't give a flying shit what he says. I agree that this is getting blown completely out of proportion. However, this is not at all a surprise. People like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are like vultures.... they exist for no other purpose but to sniff out the smallest potential controversy, and swoop in to scavenge for any hint of a racial connotation. Then they get to grandstand and draw attention to themselves.

Jesse Jackson is the biggest racist alive today, in my opinion. He makes his entire living off of racism. He doesn't want racism to end, because he would be without a job if tat happened. He'd be without an excuse for people to give him tons of money. He promotes racism by actively seeking to turn any issue into a racial one, and then rallies people into divided positions.

Re: Should Imus resign?

I say yes, but I say yes because as a host, you need to watch what you say. Granted we have this freedom of speech, but his choice of words are what nailed him. Had he been a little less discreet in his message, he wouldn't be in the problem. It should be given that you just don't randomly spout off crap on the air because we live in a PC world. Can't handle the repurcussions? tough, next time avoid the situation entirely or rephrase what you're going to say so that it at least sounds like an intelligent attack.

Re: Should Imus resign?

its amazing.... it really is.

last year, a hip hop DJ asked his listeners to give him the school address of a rival DJ so he could beat down a child and kid and sharpton said nothing. imus tells an off color joke and this.... and subter is right, those two worms are the biggest racists around. and they need it, cuz without it, they wouldnt even be listened to .

i hope someone attacks al sharpton soon, a nice bullet wound to the stomach or something. it would be great retaliation to him for this.

#840044Post 11 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

^^^he'd call it a racist attack

Imus won't get fired...he's too big of a radio celebrity (on the realm of a Howard Stern) and too widely syndicated to get canned. Like everything else, this will blow over.

The hip-hop DJ actually said he wanted to "pull an R-Kelly on his seed", referring to the daughter of his rival DJ. He was saying he wanted to rape his rival's daughter, and offered money to anyone providing the address of her school. Now if THAT isn't going too far, nothing is..... and you're right, Sharpton said nothing. But of course he wouldn't say anything. This wasn't a racist issue because it was a black DJ making a comment to another black DJ. No racial element there for Sharpton to milk to his advantage.

Re: Should Imus resign?

I don't listen to Imus, but what he said was inappropriate. I don't think it warrants a resignation unless he has a pattern of making racist remarks.

#840084Post 14 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

^^sure that is my point, you think howard stern should resign after every inappropriate thing he says? people blow things way outta proprortion now days. thanks to the news 80% of america is afraid to go outdoors because they think terrorists are everywhere plotting every day to kill everyone.

By scapegoating Imus, we are misdirecting efforts and energy from the real problems that plague th African-American community. .

Re: Should Imus resign?

I h8 nappy headed ho's

bumper stickers already making an appearance in queens and long island....

i feel bad for him. he always attacks everyone. he called lieberman a heeb on the air, and told dick cheney that he and john kerry epitomized everything that is wrong with white america and the trash we have in our own "color" so to speak.

#840358Post 18 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

I thought there was a "k" in knappy?

And I never could figure out how to spell ho's.... or is it hoes? I don't like the apostrophe because that indicates possessive tense, so I lean towards hoes. But then I think of garden tools.

Now my head hurts. This is a tough one.

Re: Should Imus resign?

vivian stringer is making this out to be like a civil rights disaster. like every white person hates black people. im listening to her on www.wfan.com

they keep saying "bigger issue" . umm,. its one guy and his partner who have done this to everyone for years.

Re: Should Imus resign?

It absolutely disgusts me how people just want to continue to pile on their own agendas to this otherwise small and insignificant story.

Pathetic.

Re: Should Imus resign?
Another player, Heather Zurich, said the uproar over Imus' remarks took the joy out of their achievement. "Our moment was taken away," Zurich said. "We were stripped of this moment by degrading comments made by Mr. Imus last Wednesday. What hurts the most about this situation is that Mr. Imus knows not one of us personally."
man if i won the lottery and someone called me a friggin asshole i wouldnt give a damn, you could call me whatever you want. i could buy new friends

Re: Should Imus resign?

the funny part is that everyone overseas notices that blacks on america are most succesful than whites in terms of sports, comedy, music, and attention... maybe its penis envy I don't know.

the comments where really innapropiate, I don't think that the redneck should resign but i dont think any women deserves that kind of disrespect. despite their color or how they look like.

if it makes you happy maybe people like chris rock who makes fun of whites all the time should apologize each time he does stand up comedy stuff... pff that could make the set even more funnier lmao

#840494Post 23 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

Twice now I have turned on the TV and this story has been on today. You would think Imus murdered the entire women's team and ate them. I don't agree with Imus comments, but this is getting out of hand with the media coverage.

#840508Post 24 of 111

thats the media sensationalizing everything and hoping to see somebody fall in the public eye....

Re: Should Imus resign?

:roflmao:

listening to the news the team is acting like he said he was going to come to each of their houses and kill their mothers. it is funny everyone is treating what he said like it is a huge bad thing and that he should go, but have anyone listened to howard stern for more than 5 minutes? that guy says more bad shit about anyone and gets away with it..

it's looking more like he will be forced out, given that two of his big sponsors just pulled out:

My guess is the dude will be toast before the week is up.

Re: Should Imus resign?

nahh he has been around way too long. even if that happens he will pull a stern if he wants to and move to another station who will be happy to pick him up, or move to satellite

What did she have to say? Some of the people defending Imus has noted that she routinely says outrageous and controversial things as well, normally without apology, and is still going strong, so I'd be curious to know where she comes down on this.

slighty conservative of dead center. i.e. if he were to put a party together. it would be the common sense, cut the bullshit party. he rips both parties equally, and calls em all out on the stupidity they bring.

that's pretty much spot on. Definitely not an ideologue for either side.

Re: Should Imus resign?

UGH, I AGREE WITH THE HUFF.

but its spot on. he never said it with malice, it was essentially him and bernie pretending to be black for humor. shame ppl have to bitch instead of changing the channel. imma get 5000 white ppl to go picket every black comic in the northeast.

im going to picket every time i see a black or white kid in baggy pants and a FUBU jacket, cuz i find that far more offensive to my values that any black woman could find the word ho. who's down?

#840886Post 36 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

hmm.

I think Imus is basically a jackass. Given that he's on public broadcasting in 2007, he apparently doesn't very make intelligent choices in terms of the shit he says. And I don't really feel too sorry for him. That said, I don't think he is a malicious racist and I'd probably not fire him if it were up to me. I definitely agree about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton - it would be nice of they both got real jobs and did something productive for a change.

I HATE PC

i really do. so in that idea

nigger jew spic kike darky beaner white trash honkey monkey nip gook chink jap gigga mook towel head spot head dot head terrorist sand nigga' camel jockey

it really is a shame, that we cant have true freedoms. he didnt call for the death to the black community in NY. he told a bad joke. i will no longer watch my mouth.ever.

#840901Post 38 of 111

Re: Should Imus resign?

if blacks are exagerating i think whites on this thread are exaggerating even more. I really think its not about bad jokes I don't think women deserve that kind of disrespect. he should get kicked in the nads.
