This so called Iranian ex-President is being directly accused of arming, funding and paying for the attacks, which did not take place in a war zone, but was a deliberate attack by a foreign agent on a sovereign country country and its people and it is that country that is demanding his arrest.

Belgium is neither the UN nor the International Court - you have no authority to try ANYONE for crimes that were not committed in your country, or at the very least a citizens against citizens of your country.

Unless I'm mistaken Beirut is not in Belgium and the people who used your dubious law in the first place were not Belgium citizens.

However, the State of Argentina issued the warrant for crimes committed in its country against its citizens. Do you object to that?

[INDENT][I]Israeli judicial commission that investigated the 1982 massacres at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Beirut.[/I][/INDENT]The Israeli government established the Commission of Inquiry into the Events at the Refugee Camps in Beirut (the Kahan Commission) in response to a massive public outcry following the killing of an estimated 800 to 1,200 Palestinian civilians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps on the outskirts of Beirut by right-wing Christian militiamen, primarily of the Lebanese Phalange Party, on 16 and 18 September 1982.

The massacres occurred in territory under the control of the Israel Defense Force in the wake of Israel's June 1982 invasion of Lebanon, and the perpetrators were Israeli allies.

On 24 September 1982, some 400,000 Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv against their country's continuing involvement in Lebanon and in favor of an official investigation into the massacres.

The three-person commission was chaired by Yitzhak Kahan, president of the [COLOR=black][COLOR=white]Supreme Court[/COLOR];[/COLOR] the other members were Aharon Barak, a Supreme Court justice, and retired army general Yona Efrat.

Most seriously, the commission found that Ariel Sharon bore personal responsibility for the tragedy and recommended that the prime minister consider removing him from office.

Given the dread with which most Israelis came to regard the Lebanese quagmire in which Israel remained embroiled for the next seventeen years, Sharon's election as prime minister in February 2001 constituted a remarkable case of political rehabilitation.

But the disaster in Lebanon dogged his premiership when, in June 2001, a group of Sabra and Shatila survivors filed a war-crimes complaint against him in a Belgian court under a 1993 Belgian law allowing claimants to bring cases against foreigners accused of crimes against humanity, regardless of where they occurred.

Just spreading some relevent information that I think Kinky and others might find interesting since both you guys were talking about it.;)

I believe every nation is entitled to issue arrest warrants for persons who have committed crimes against its nationals on its territory.

In saying this though, the evidence brought foward must be must be strong and also very reliable. If this can be done then go for it.

There was that much corruption, cover ups and scandel involved in this investigation that it has got to the stage that we may never know the truth. Hard evidence would have gone missing, people would have been paid to keep their mouths shut, lie or falsify evidence ect, ect.

The scary thing is, that no one has been convicted of anything to do with crime as of yet. Not one person.

It appears that being indirectily involved in crimes these days doesn't really get you jailed anyways.

There already have been a few convictions in the Rwanda genocide trials before the court of The Hague as well as convictions for war crimes commited during the Balkan war. But (especially in the Balkan war crimes procedures) the big fish haven't been caught yet.
