What did folks think of Cheney's speech last night? As you might suspect, I didn't agree with a lot of what he said, but his message was pretty clear, and I thought it was effective.

For me, it highlighted the fact that Kerry and Edwards really have to go on the offensive. It was (at least in part) the bashing of the Bush adminstration failures during the Democratic primaries that got Bush's approval ratings so low and the poll numbers for ABB got so high, and it is the bashing of Bush that will win this election. It is clear that Bush and Cheney are going to focus heavily on attacking Kerry rather than talking about themselves, and as Kerry's initially adroit response to the Swift Boat Vets ads showed, him ignoring attacks and focusing on himself doesn't help his position.

Here's hoping the Dems start fighting back, b/c the President and his staff do a good job at this whole campaigning thing, and Kerry needs to get those swing voters that dislike Bush but don't really care for Kerry fired up enough to get the dude out of office.

Re:: Dick Cheney, Dark Overlord

bill clinton made a great point about kerry/edwards.

they are so indecisive that once the bush campaign forces them to make a decision on the issues that they float over, they will alienate the people in thier constituency??(spelling?) wwho dont agree fully,

ie if he goes too far left he loses the moderates, and he loses the hardcore if he stays moderate.

unfortuely guiliani isnt running. he is one of the few who has actually gotten his opposing party to work with his own. he did it well in NYC outside of the fact that he didnt lock in cops and firemen and teachers into long term contracts b/c state assembly would not allow a 10 year contract in 96 or 98.

I don't know that I agree. The dems have overlooked a lot of inter-party discord to focus on doing whatever it takes to beat Bush. Bush himself is so far right -- or so far off the spectrum entirely -- that I can't imagine that there is anything Kerry could do that would upset the Dem. party faithful so much that they would vote for Bush or not vote at all, IMHO.

as my wife said when the camera panned to him during Bush's speech: "he looks like he eats small children."
