Re: David Hicks

Oh, you mean Abu Muslim al-Aulstraili? If he really was with the Taliban, let his family send of a dollar for the bullet.

^^^ I can't tell you how incredibly sad that post makes me feel. To wish that on his father in particular is unbelieveably cruel. To those that read that, you will still not know David Hicks.

I have no respect nor compassion for people adherring to that organisation/group. Too bad for his family, but hey, when the Taliban disemboweled and then killed people because they educated girls, they weren't thinking of family either. In a way my question has been answered, there doesn't seem to be either any knowing or thinking out there.

Re: David Hicks

didi, keep in mind that mr. hicks himself would happily put a bullet in your head. dont forget that. you should go spend some time in eastern afghanistan or western pakistan before you begin feeling bad for people who kill innocent people for trivial things like teaching, not being muslim, dating, not covering up...........

Even your government knows that. As I said, I started this thread to find out just how much people know about him and I've found out , much to my disappointment. I didn't want to start an argument and looking at the replies no one is particularly interested in knowing the full story.

So why don't we just leave it at that.

Re: David Hicks

^^ Didi, was he a friend of yours? The way you talk makes it sound like you have some inside knowledge of him. Just curious...I'm not saying that Wikipedia is a reliable source, but I'm wondering where your info comes from.

I don't know much about the guy, but unless it's all a big frame-up, I have to wonder what he was doing training with Al Quaeda and preparing to go to war with them... If that was the case, then I don't see why I should have sympathy for someone who is training to kill people like me.

There is no frame up, but that is because there doesn't have to be one. It is a very complex situation which is why I asked if anyone had knowledge and they obviosly don't, and I really don't want to get into arguments with people who are not interested in going past what they read on wikipedia to start an argument.

But, just as a thought, American presidents dealt with both the taliban and Al Quaeda in different times. Wikepedia isn't particularly inaccurate in what it states, it's the immensity of what is left out that makes it a very poor source in this case.

What I was trying to establish is just how far under the radar Australian events etc can be, and they are obviously way under. One of the reasons I was wondering is that from looking a little deeper into what is actually happening in this world, this forum has helped, I see that countries can be perceived in one way when their general populace has an entirely different view. For instance a lot of people in Australia would judge Americans by George. W. when if you look a little deeper a lot of Americans would be deeply offended by this.

I brought up David Hicks because it is something that does effect America, and there was a better chance that it hadn't gone unnoticed. It's also a fairly amazing story. Not made amazing by David, if fact if it wasn't too late I would almost say he could be a candidate for a Darwin award, but by his father and his American lawyer Major Mori. The politics have just been astonishing.

Re: David Hicks

I think I see where you're going with this...he was there, but he was naive and he was not really fighting against the US...or maybe just against the Northern Alliance... but he's really a good guy who wouldn't want to hurt us, right?

I dunno, really tough to say. As far as I can tell right now, there just doesn't seem to be any reliable information available to make the call. At very least, he certainly does deserve a Darwin Award for being there... The US government obviously won't say a thing, and I don't trust career activists any further than I could drop-kick their hippie asses. I do agree that it would be best for the US to finally charge him and others one way or another and bring some resolution to this...wonder how many decades this kind of limbo can go on.

Re: David Hicks

I'm not saying anything other than what I put in my post!! I really, really wanted to know what other people knew!! If the information was getting out there, and that's been answered by all, and that answer is obviously no! I'm not about putting a case, it's purely finding out what the rest of the world knows about each other. What career activists????????

This is ridiculous, I just reread the wikipedia entry and it doesn't look as though anyone has even bothered to read that properly, and having two kids means he is ineligible for a darwin.

#771848Post 16 of 26

Re: David Hicks

ok man...well, I guess whatever information you are privy to has not gotten out there. You keep saying on one hand that you just want to test us and see what we know, but on the other hand your comments make it sound like you harbor a firmly set agenda with respect to him. It's cool...I'm not gonna drag it out of ya ;)

My only point with Darwin Award was that it sure was mightily stupid to be traveling to Al-Quaeda affiliated Muslim dictatorships and training militarily alongside them, if that's what he in fact was doing. That said, I do still think it's wrong to hold people indefinitely for over half a decaded without either convicting them of something or exonerating them.

#772217Post 17 of 26

Re: David Hicks

No, no, no. I'm definitely not trying to test anyone, I am not privy to anything, it's all public domain. I really don't know anything that is not out there. The only difference is how much the rest of the world has seen, as compared to Australia, and that was what I was trying to find out!! You're taking it all in the wrong way and trying to read agendas where there are none. The darwin thing was supposed to be a joke. [guess that didn't work:)] I think we are in agreement on the stupid thing then.

Off course I have my own views but don't we all, and this is actually a pretty big issue here in Australia at the moment.

But thanks for taking an interest .:)
