Another fun one to watch... America's first Muslim congressman: which holy book should be be required to swear on? :) Conservatives all over the nation, commence freaking out NOW!!!

Thoughts? I say let him swear on the Koran already and get on to business.

I am a conservative.... but I think he should be allowed to put his hand on whatever book he wants.

I am an athiest, and if I were elected to office (I would never run.... but grant me the hypothetical) I would not place my hand on any "holy" book.

I agree. While I understand the current climate can make many people anxious about Muslims in general, Ellison is not Muqtada Al Sadr and he's not gonna bring in a bunch of turban wearing guys with radioactive briefcases. Let him use whatever book he wants...the freedoms that underscore that ability are very American.

Exactly. I couldn't care less what his hand is on. It's not like he's unwilling to take an oath, which might be troubling -- he just wants to use his own book. Freedom of religion, anyone?

thankfully we have enough common sense here to get over whatever stupidity certain parties will bring to the table regarding this. im waiting on pat robertson to file suit to force it.
