Re: Say goodbye to....
Fucking Awesome!!!!
Re: Say goodbye to....
at long last
Re: Say goodbye to....
L O L @ Bush horribly answering questions live right now.
Anyone watching this live press conference right now?
Re: Say goodbye to....
Wow. First the Cardinals win the World Series, the Republicans get flushed out of Congress, and now this! I don't know how much more joy I can take!!!!
Re: Say goodbye to....
You've got to think that this was in the works -- why didn't Bush announce this a couple of days ago? I guess on the one hand, it would kinda show weakness, but it would also show some much needed flexibility.
Oh well, what do I care? I'm just glad things have come together as they have...
Re: Say goodbye to....
"I love it when a plan comes together!"

Re: Say goodbye to....
In the end I wonder if Rumy will be remembered as a war criminal.

That would be my guess. With all signs pointing towards Dem. victory it was either lock arms or abandon ship - staying true to form they closed their eyes and held on tight.
Re: Say goodbye to....
I think the only reason rummy's resigning is because of what happened during the election and Bush's fear that now the dems will actually be able to ask the tough questions of rummy in congress.

6 years too late

I think you're 100% right -- and it also suggests that the answers to those questions may not cast the most positive light on things...
Re: Say goodbye to....
here's the interesting part, by rumsfeld's resignation it is an admission of fault by the administration, because anything that Rummy did Bush signed off on...let's see how that one plays out.
Re: Say goodbye to....
Bad people advising him all along. Shame.
Re: Say goodbye to....
he shoudl have done this about 3 years ago. i honestly thought he owuld have done it about 2 weeks ago in an attempt to savehis ass, but alas, they proved too stupid.
Re: Say goodbye to....
yeah I was thinking bout this one when I heard the news and thought wouldn't it have been a better move to have booted him out a few weeks back when he may have saved the republicans from this trouncing, but alas I believe Bush was just too damn cocky and never thought this would really happen...in his reality of course ;)
Re: Say goodbye to....
about time

yep...if you're before the election, you say that he's staying and that you have 100% faith in him. You want to look like you and your political side has their shit together once it gets that close before an election. Once you see what you have to work with after the election and how much of a liability the weak links will be for the next two years...great time to take out the trash.
Re: Say goodbye to....
So any thoughts on this new fella they're bringing in, Robert Gates?
Re: Say goodbye to....
Goodbye Mr Rumsfeld
So any thoughts on this new fella they're bringing in, Robert Gates?
Hmm...don't know much about this dude. Career in the CIA that goes back over 2 decades, Washington insider and advisor to many presidents, then went off to be the president of Texas A&M Uni...friend of the Bush family... Knowing so little about him, sounds like a pretty safe bet from Bush
Re: Say goodbye to....
I honestly don't know anything about the guy independently -- here's his Wikipedia entry, though:

Re: Say goodbye to....
has anyone heard about his ties with the Iran contra scandal? Gates was being considered for charges back then, but at the last minute they chose not to file any...hmmm....

Re: Say goodbye to....
no, be fair, he runs a damn great economy.
Re: Say goodbye to....
He runs it?
Re: Say goodbye to....
yes, the president is ultimetly responsible for the economy, through various policies i will not even touch right now. go ask someone else (no offense, im just lazy)
Re: Say goodbye to....
He runs it?
yeah, that was news to me, too. I don't give Bush credit for the current state of the economy any more than I give Clinton credit for the booming economy during his presidency.

Give me a break.
Re: Say goodbye to....
no, be fair, he runs a damn great economy.
You know you could keep repeating that and I'll keep saying the same damn thing. Great macroeconomy, but shitty microeconomy. Nominally the numbers look great, but when you start breaking them down and seeing such a horrible distribution of wealth (and one that has gotten progressively worse over the last 20 years as opposed to the 30 years before then), while the amount of people living in poverty is growing exponentially and at the same time destroying the middle class, you could take that f%&ing economy and shove it up your ass!
An economy that only makes the rich richer and the poor poorer is not what a first world economy should be about...that's what we typically call a third world economy (aka in PC language...a developing market  ). Take your economic smoke screen elsewhere and keep fooling the masses. They may believe your words, but I actually look at what's hiding behind them.
Re: Say goodbye to....
ok first off, i dont deny he is an asshat. and ben, you clearly know where i stand in regards to most of it. but you cant deny that our economic and employment situation are great.
and the righ get richer idea is true, but half the point, the median income has risen consistently, investment is up, and spending is up. across the board.
even the lowest levels of income are up.
go check out the CPI info. the poorer arent getting poorer, they are incrementally increasing their wealth as well . to say that the population of poor people is growing would be true, but overall, thier median income is growing. stop telling me they are getting poorer, you're flat out wrong on that.

But aside from statistical manipulation...I've looked at some more info (http://www.census.gov/prod/2006pubs/p60-231.pdf) on the subject and I'll correct myself. You're right, this past year the numbers look better, but only slightly and this is all after 6 successive years of constant declines in the median income and constant growth in poverty and I don't even think you could deny that. So one year, I'll give you. But I still firmly believe that Bush and the Republicans concept of trickle down economics is a crock of shit and harmful to the public at large. One good year doesn't prove anything.
Other points to consider are that investment and spending are up because we have become a hell of a credit nation. We borrow more and more every year. So true wealth is actually down once you take liabilities into consideration.
Also a good deal of the spending and investment has been fueled by an inflated housing market, that in my humble opinion is on the cusp of a major world-wide crash. The difference in this country is that many have borrowed against this inflated value to fund their purchases and that will soon cause many problems...but alas the bankruptcy laws have been changed to make that more difficult (but that's a discussion for another day ;) ).
And lastly, how could you say that the lowest levels of income have gone up when the minimum wage hasn't gone up a single nominal penny in over 10 years now and when you look at the rate in terms of purchasing power, it hit it's peak in 1968 and if you're going to point out the states have higher minimum wages than the fed, it's only 18 states that have done this. There's much more I could say about Bush's financial policies, but hell even I'm getting tired of spewing this shit. So here I'll stick with my original premise that overall the poor are getting poorer...relatively at least...
http://www.bls.gov/cpi/
You're gonna have to point me out to what you'd like me to look at here...pretty confusing page for a non-accounting like myself ;)
