Re: Saddam Senteced to Death

Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
without a doubt
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
Good. Not necissarly an advocate of the death penalty, but in his case.. Good!
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death

Re: Saddam Senteced to Death

Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
he and his lawyers have 30 days to appeal, witch they will, they appeal to a 9 judge table who has to reach an answer by another 30 days ... the execution is expected to take place in spring '07
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
yeah, not too surprising.
kids, remember...don't go for the evil dictator career path. The pay and extra benefits are good for a while, but eventually it all catches up to you and then the party's over.

:roflmao:
this is huge. world history in the works
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
^^ History, indeed...the one sobering point is that this event will do jack shit for the Iraqi debacle.
It won't put a plan in place for Iraq that will build roads and hospitals and get the local economy going. It won't stop the terrorists, won't stop the car bombs, won't keep yet another set of mutilated bodies from being uncovered in Baghdad, and it won't stop another 30 to 40 US soldiers from dying in the next two weeks.
Just something to keep in mind when old George W. points to this and tries to feed you another variant of his inevitable "Mission accomplished!" bullshit.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
clearly he was a nasty peice of work and always deserved everything that was coming to him
- but I'm not totally convinced (based on the news coverage and interweb vids etc) that they actually proved in court he was responsible for the attrocities they charged him. ie was this really a fair and reasonably handled trial ?? I have absolutely no wavering that he is totally guilty tho!
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
he had no chance, and he deserves the penalty

History of campaign shenanigans.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
Right on time for elections. Good news - Howr they gonna put him down tho? I hope the Iraqis like it, theres been some talk of them wanting the americans gone and saddam back. Theres also talk that the gates of hell will open up in Iraq after his death, Im sure absolutely nothing will change though.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
theres already protest on the side of the sunnit's againts this decision... while the shiite's are celebrating the decision
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
I dunno what to think about this. Hanging someone seems so barbaric. Couldn't they have found a more humane way to kill him.....I don't agree with this method at all
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
Hanging was still a viable way of hanging individuals in the U.S. up until the 50's I believe. It takes anywhere from two to for minutes for someone to either suffocate or crush their neck under their own weight.

which is why men are in charge and the only society ran by women, the amazons, died out naturally in the single most fertile gepgraphic region on the planet in the amazon. food, water, animal, trees, temperate climate, plenty of rainfall, and yet they couldnt make it....;)

PPV...it would make a killing.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
So because I am a woman that is why I think killing someone by this method is wrong??? It's wrong because it's inhumane and wrong to sit and watch someone gasping and struggling to live, and then watch the life literally drain out of them.
Why can't they just use lethal injection, why do they have to torture him to kill him?
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
because he tortured millions
http://www.usaid.gov/iraq/legacyofterror.html so far 400k dead people discovered in his mass graves. I personally think they should keep him in prison so all the prisoners beat the shit out of him for 40 years, but if they're to kill him they should make it as slow as possible

Anyway, the ruling in this trial is just a little rumble along the side lines of the bigger issue. Bush might be calling this a milestone, but to me it's nothing more than yet another tombstone in a story without happy ending.

I am well aware of what he did. I am not saying he is a good man and should be set free. I would personally rather see him rot in prison. Since this isn't the outcome, I don't feel we need to resort to barbaric methods just because he killed thousands.
They use lethal injection with someone who tortures, rapes, then kills children/teenagers/women. Same with someone who blows up a building in Oaklahoma killing children in a daycare among others. Yes his actions killed more people during war, etc, but why should they kill him any differently?
I know people on here don't agree with me, and that is fine, I just personally think it is wrong
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
^^^ Right you are.
Moreover, hanging the bastard will only make him a martyr imo...
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
i say let him loose on a shiite neighborhood ....

I?m not exactly sure that would happen.
The guy still has followers in many places and he?d probably be treated like a king while in prison, and with all the uprising constantky happenning in Iraq, there?s even a small chance he might escape.
I always believed a life sentence was a way better way to make someone pay for his crimes than death, but when you realize that important guys get treated like they?re at Club Med many times, then I have to agree with this type of sentence.
As for hanging...well, it?s not half as bad as the electric chair, I think.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
I agree with DQ on this one...hanging him only brings those doing it down to the level of Hussein himself and I believe a more humane method would be more appropriate to show we're not on the same barbaric level as saddam.
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
Now for another interesting point, does anyone else find it interesting that Hussein got these chemical weapons that were used on the kurds and shiites from the US in the first place? Interesting how that was kept out of the trial and media...

On balance, he's actually getting off pretty easily. I wouldn't consider hanging someone torture -- if done properly, he'll break his neck and be dead the moment the platform drops.
Crucifixion, now that's a way to go. I didn't realize this for a long time myself, but people who are crucified actually die by suffocation -- gravity pulls your body down and drags all of your bones, organs, etc. towards the center of your body, and you ultimately die when your shoulder blades collapse in onto your lungs. It actually takes a number of days (Jesus evidently died uncharacteristically quickly).
Now that's a messed up way to go...
Re: Saddam Senteced to Death
against death penalty

Ya, I know -- point is that when people think crucifixion, they normally think of Jesus, even though his experience was pretty atypical. For most people, it is a much slower process...

You, DQ and the rest are forgetting one thing: it's not the US hanging him, i's Iraq. Its an Iraqi death sentence, and therefore and Iraqi method. He was convicted by and Iraqi court, not American (well...maybe behind the screens). Methods are still a bit different there...probably he should be happy to be hung, not stoned/whipped/decapitated.
