my god, it's just deadly watching television right now. I have to take a moment to gripe about these commercials... It doesn't matter which political party it is. Every single damn commercial always sounds like this:

"BILL is good. Bill was sent from our heavenly father to give selflessly of himself so that we all might have eternal life." (scenes of Bill holding babies and helping old people across the street)

"BOB.. is evil personified. Bob stabs kittens in his free time and wants to molest your child and rape all of your family members." (black and white picture of Bob looking like he's passing gas)

"BILL is smart and has figured out the solution to our problems is to fix them. He thinks our kids should learn, everyone should be wealthy, and that crime is a bad idea. He's the first to ever figure out these revolutionary ideas." (scenes of Bill deep in thought and pointing to a flip chart that says "make things better, not worse")

"BOB is mentally retarded and thinks every day is opposite day. He hates it when the economy grows. He wants us to rake all of our money into a big pile and set it on fire." (scene of Bob running into a door)

And this is supposed to make me want to go out and vote???? fuck...

Cool, I'll check it out...

For real, it just rubs me the wrong way that one of the most basic ways forums for dissemination of political platforms are these ridiculous marketing ads that are 99% marketing image and 1% content. Everything so black and white. Everything so dumbed down and rigged to appeal just to peoples' gut level emotions. It shows me that they're all just career politicians who are playing to win a personal game by any means. Bothersome baggage like integrity and some basic level of self-respect only gets in the way here.

And the sad thing is, it probably works for them.

Re: election commercials...

The sad thing is that they need to bash the other guy in order to look good. Symptom of lack of content indeed

Re: election commercials...

i cant wait until we have a deadlock in the house and both parties need to turn to joe liberman... he should, on every vote, wait until he is the last person to vote, and do a big dog and pony show....

Re: election commercials...

no no, that man actually has shown integrity and common sense. i think he should bring a ton of sarcastic humor to them. have someone from his staff hit the lights inthe hall, shine a spotlight and play some mid 80's van halen as he goes to push the button to vote. they could drop confetti and have a coreographed dance number too. teach him the moonwalk and have flip off the rest of them while he does it...
