New GOP ad resorts to truly shameless fearmongering. Check it out at:

if it doesn't happen to be on the front page anymore, you can probably track it down from the page with the transcript here:

honestly, how dumb do they think we are? Or is this just all the neo-cons have left?

Re: Desperation

The odd thing is, I think they're completely delusional if they think this even helps them. The most recent polls show pretty consistently that people no longer believe that Republicans are better on terror-related issues:

I've obviously got a jaded opinion, but when I see that ad, I don't think "whew, thankfully there are republicans around to protect us." To the contrary, I see it and say to myself, "why are these guys still running around?"

Re: Desperation

they all are..

we have this ad in NY for king Jr. that starts out

''its 2007 and george bush has just appointed his final supreme court justices after a mysterious illness to the liberal judges and roe vs wade has been overturned. there are cameras in our houses and chips in our skin. this is what will happen when king jr is elected to george bush's senate."

so comon toasty, show all the cards they are all wrong and we need new ppl. there are some of the most stupid adverts out right now that make sci fi movie trailers look good. it aint just hte GOP, its the democrats too. and sadly our country seems entirely too stupid to realize that as much as bush is a problem, they all are. right now even mccain is stepping low. and i thought he would take a loss as opposed to goign cheesy. its sad that joe leiberman might be the only politician out there that you can take at his word, even if you disagree.

That's not the point. The point is not that the Republicans are scumballs and the Democrats are champions of justice. The point is that this ad, in particular, smacks of desperation (hence, the title of the thread).

The truth is that the folks in charge of the Republican party have fucked it up so badly for the rest of the party over the last few years in every respect, they really have no record to run on. The fear card is all they have left, and who knows if that still carries any weight with a skeptical voting public.

Re: Desperation

didn't we see this just a few years ago when the Republicans took control...it's like one party fucks it up badly enough for the other to grab hold for a while, then THEY fuck it up badly enough to go back the other way...it never ends.

Re: Desperation

Maybe it's time to bring the old Lyndon Johnson "Daisy" ad out again, but this time for the republicans: http://livingroomcandidate.movingimage.us/player/index.php?ad_id=838

I was thinking the exact same thing.

You've got that right. They are like two mob families at constant war with each other. The Republicans are the Corleone Family and the Democrats are the Barzini's.

Re: Desperation

Lose that prehistoric first-past-the-post system...it's the reason why in many African countries no decent leaders get in charge and it does the same to you. You guys need mre diversity in politics, that is for sure.

Re: Desperation

I just saw it...it is rather lame. Too bad I don't believe that the Democrats are above this sort of thing, either.
