University instructor likens Bush to Hitler

http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/10/11/instructor.sept.11.ap/index.html

To offer some context, the professor is one of the folks that believes that 9/11 was an inside job. The part in bold below is what really perked me up, though:
"Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies," he wrote.

Barrett said Tuesday he was comparing the attacks to the burning of the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in 1933, a key event in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship.

"That's not comparing them as people, that's comparing the Reichstag fire to the demolition of the World Trade Center, and that's an accurate comparison that I would stand by," he said.

He added: "Hitler had a good 20 to 30 IQ points on Bush, so comparing Bush to Hitler would in many ways be an insult to Hitler."
:HolyShit: :!: :HolyShit: :!: :HolyShit: :!: :HolyShit: :!:

Dude doesn't mince words, fo sho...

I don't agree with this dude, BTW, the quote just threw me back enough that I thought it was worth circulating.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

This is going to sound ...well...i dunno, but here it is:

Hitler was not an idiot, in fact, he was very intelligent and charismatic. Fucked up ideas- yes, idiot- no. On the same line, i do not think that Bush is an idiot, nor do i think his administration = a bunch of fumbing fuckwits. I think they have a very unique and intelligent, albeit misguided, plan for the world that just doesn't work. This isn't a view i have always held, I sat and listened to this guy on CSpan talk for about two hours a few weeks ago, and for me to comment further would be for me to just rehash what he said. And no i don't normally sit and watch C Span, but i was flipping around and caught these words...

"On the evening of September 11, 2001, I was one of a small group of State Department staffers called in to confer with Secretary of State Colin Powell..."

...and i was glued and watched the whole program, followed by a half hour or so Q & A with a bunch of nerdy think tankers. It was fascinating. Anyway, i don't feel like typing out a bunch of nonsense tonight on the subject, maybe tomorrow.

Sooo, back on topic, that professor is flipping lunatic. I can't think of anyone, aside from Sono maybe, who would argue Hitler v. Bush on the same plane. Bush is pretty fucked up, but Hitler was like....i dunno, can't even put into words, REEEEALLY fked up.

(sorry for the completely random sounding no information backing post)

Re: That's a Bold Statement

At least, Bush government can be compared to Hitler's one. It's using the same technics. Goebbels said that a repeated lie will finally be accepted by the whole population as a true thing. I'm referring here to the weapons of mass destruction supposed to be in the hands of Saddam Hussein, and the link between Saddam and Al Qua?da, making Saddam responsible for 9/11.

Similarly, I don't want to come off sounding like I think there's anything positive to say about Hitler, but to be able to convince so many people that something so obviously wrong as genocide was a perfectly good idea, he clearly had to be doing something that others found appealing, and was a step ahead of those who were following him.

As for Bush and his buddies, I don't think the adminstration as a whole is comprised of idiots -- to the contrary, I think they are very smart, calculating, and do most everything with purpose (at least politically). Bush personally, though, I do think is an idiot. I think he's just along for the ride, and I think he's way in over his head. Sad but true, IMO...

I wonder if and when the truth is going to come out. Anyway, the damage is done, let's hope everybody (so no only US voters, but also the players on the international political field) will have learnt a lesson from all of this.

On topic: I wouldn't go so far as comparing Bush (administration) to Hitler, but I do think a great deal of their strategies have been inspired by Hitler and Goebbles.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

i think bush got pulled into a downward spiral. think about it, when he was first elected, he was on a great path, and had the highest approval ratings EVER. the afghan conflict was understandable. then............................... through things like above, and way over zealous rumsfeld. well, we are we are. the only thing that happened over the last 6 years is that the middle east proved its a fucking toilet and a guy from texas could be worked by his staffers. its weird, as everyone gets on bush, and the more i read who is organizing the war effort... the more i hate donald rumsfeld, not bush. and to compare thier tactics to hitler is too much , i am sorry it is. they dont even come close, and they havent taken over any media and run state mandated ads.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

You know I get the whole it was Rumsfeld or it was Cheney blame game, but if I remember correctly, when Bush came in his claim was that he wanted to run the administration like he was a CEO (the decider) running a company, executive board and all...well when the underlings screw up time and time again, does the CEO not get fired? At some point, after continous screw-ups by those under him, you have to admit he's just a bad leader...after all he's the one deciding in their favor time and time again.
he has learned the hard way why our founders implemented the wonderful system of checks and balances for sure. sometimes good , sometimes bad.
Checks and Balances? Where are they? The congress has passed everything he's asked them, pretty much exactly as he wanted it. He is the first president who didn't have his first veto until 6 years into his term (and there have been many other situations where both houses and the presidency were all the same party).

For fuck's sake, they tried to impeach a president for getting a blowjob in the oval office, yet a chronic liar who has led us into a bloody war unprepared continues to run amok.

You actually call that checks and balances? The only instance that had an air of checks and balances was this recent torture issue and what did they decide in the end, they let Bush redefine it as he likes and they'll pass it..."we just want it in writing" isn't much of a check.

So where do you see checks & balances at work?

have you seen them scrambling for this election? lmao, and everytime they try to make the dems look bad, they realize they are only furthering their ouster. the house is gonna change quickly, and frankly he wont accomplish anything afterwards.

we need a few more parties.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

This thread is kinda going off track, but since it is, i'll continue the direction:

As bad as this administration is, a bigger question is what are the Democrats doing about it? Answer: failing miserably. This election shouldn't even be contested ffs, but the fact that the Democrats ARE a bunch of fumbling fuckwits just further compounds the problem with this country. The Dems have zero to be proud of. They have not successfully countered any of the failing policies of the Bush administration with new ideas. The only victories they can claim are the failures of the republican party- hardly anything to be victorious about.

when i think of the post BClinton democrats i think of curly from the 3 stooges doing his running in circles on the floor skit.

next election will be catheder or enema, you're gonna dislike both options, but gonna get stuck with one.

And hell yeah on more parties. These two parties suck big time and are so entrenched that they've become useless to the people they're supposed to represent (and why the hell congress has a 98% retention rate is beyond me!). The biggest benefit to multiple parties though would be that we, as a country, could move away from this atmosphere of partisanship politics, the us vs. them mentality, and start to recognize that people's opinion's come in way more than just two flavors.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

thier involvement stresses early involvement in lives, as opposed to adulthood.

get in with the kids early, force them to learn, as opposed to laying back and then paying welfare. they get involved, but in the right ways.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

I'm sorry, but Pataki on the issues was shit. He only ever cared about upstate, his constituents, and he was horrible on most social issues. Bloomberg I've actually liked and happy that I voted for. He took the right stances in the right ways more often than not and dealt with the issues I've always felt were most important. As for Giuliani, he was great if you were only concerned about the white upper class and how they were living. He was shit for lower/middle class. He instituted executive law rather than legislative law. He was pro-landlord. His assault on crime went way too far and deprived us of many of our civil liberties. No tolerance is an overreaction. I'm not going to say he didn't do some good things, he did, but I never liked him or his attitude.
and seriously, does anyone care about upstate? lol. NYC, a lot of land, then canada.
while true, every state governor does, because they tend to hold the sway of the election. Otherwise how the hell do you explain a number of republican governors where NYC has a ratio of Dems to Repubs of 4-1? And if you'd like to bring up well the mayors have been Repubs, let's just look at the awesome and incredibly useful job that Koch and Dinkins did  They're mostly anomolies for NYC politics.

the dinkins/koch method of governing is ''if i dont see it, it aint happening." what>? we were averaging 2 deaths a day above 114th street for a decade there.

First of all, the daily show was the other thread ;) and second of all I don't even understand what that comment has to do with anything. If the daily show shows it's viewers the insanity, the foolishness and the criminality of this administration and the republican-dominated congress and the "students" choose to vote against them, what's wrong with that? Isn't that exactly the checks & balances you were talking about? And what makes the daily show different than fox news in that respect?

Re: That's a Bold Statement

ok, i meant it in the fact that the daily show is most definetly pro-dem, with its guests and john himself, and all they are helping is the kids to just vote democrat under the guise of ''not these fucking idiots''. when there are so many other options that get shoved out of the way.

#725916Post 31 of 37

Re: That's a Bold Statement

by any chance did you watch the daily show with Jon Stewart during the clinton years. He railed on those dems quite a bit in those days, moreso than the repubs (clinton was just too damn easy! ;) ). That the show is skewed towards making fun of the repubs now has everything to do with making fun of those in power. Truthfully, do you ever really listen to Stewart...he hates both parties, he just feels the dems are the lesser of two evils.

oh and if this debate just keeps going on, we might as well make arrangements to discuss this further over some drinks...don't worry I wouldn't expect you to make much sense later in the evening ;)

Re: That's a Bold Statement

i know i watched, but that was really before it became the monster it is now. at least back then you could go thorugh a show without it throw at ya. his coverage of the late term pardons was actually funny. it was before they started to get serious.

Re: That's a Bold Statement

Unfortunately, we're getting what we deserve by electing politicians like Bush. He got voted in because of his name and big oil money. He didn't become Governor of Texas and President by being this great leader. Sure, he made us all feel great after 9/11, but that was to his credit being a great speaker. If our country was smart, we would've voted someone into office with intelligence and cares about the world.

We should be voting people into office on their merits instead of how great of a fundraiser they are, how good of speaker they are, how rich they are, or happen to be related to a previous President.

The sad thing is that many of us would vote for someone different, but there isn't any other viable choice. We have the choice between two parties and both candidates are much closer to being the same than we want to admit. Basically, we're left powerless to make a difference. You really begin to question if you live in a Democracy at all.

Come on dude, grow some balls, stop being a republican hippy, and stand up for the shit that's wrong with the US. I'm really so sick of us just turning the other cheek to the morons that were elected.
