Re: Keith Olbermann's Special Comment on Bush 9/11/06

He has quite some valid points imo. Like for instance that after five years there's still no new building... I could be wrong, but if I were in Bush' place, I'd make sure new and more spectacular towers would've risen from the ashes of GZ. Just as a dignified royal fuck you to terrorists worldwide...

Btw, is there already a final decision on the concept of the new construction? I heard a lot about the Freedom Tower, but kinda lost track of it...

 everyone, and i mean everyone, needs to shut the fuck up about ground zero. there is so much BS that every little insurer, business and politician are putting into the prodject.

the port authority owns it, larry silverstein owns the lease for the next 90 years, and the families and businesses own the right to mourn and have a memorial. the insurances comapnies fought tooth and nail because some towel heads driving the planes doesnt count as a bombing and they didnt want to pay. the families are suing left and right to prevent the owner and leaseholder from building there, other are suing to get control of the memorial. the mayor, governer and federal authories, and every little reporter have zero right to comment, urge or decide what happens there.

there are about 20 reasons why building hasnt really been flying, for instance, the retaining wall, the suubway tunnels, the underground infrastructure, possible contamination, where to build, what to build, HOW to build (the unions sued for rights).

let NY handle it, we will, we are just trying to do the right thing for the victims, the guy who is losing over a billion a year on rent, and the port authority who actually owns it.

in other words, something will probably never get built there because of all the back-and-forth-web-tanglement involved (or until at least the lease runs out)

Re: Keith Olbermann's Special Comment on Bush 9/11/06

actually construction had begun and continues to be done underground. above ground there is a building that has to be taken down floor by floor(it was 70 stories) because it is structurally unsound. they cant demo it, and they cant build above ground in case it collaspes, as it would destroy whatever construction would have been up if it did. this is the subway station 2 blocks from the site. another tunnel around the site.

Re: Keith Olbermann's Special Comment on Bush 9/11/06

indeed; yes building is going on to at least start it, but between the lawsuits, bickering, this, that and the other thing...either the project gets pushed through for political reasons/gain, or it gets held up because someone files something stupid to block the building along the way.

However just the concept, building, renovating and tearing down alone should take an easy 5-10 years...so if you hope for something, don't expect it anytime soon.

(I'd love for it to happen eventually too; I just think that some fuckwad along the way, be it individual or company is going to screw something up and delay it even further)
