Interesting to see wether he was the main driving force behind the insurgency or not..if so, it was a case of one very strong personality keeping the lot together - in that case there might not be a qualified successor at all. If not, then I wonder what his real authority was over the insurgents, I guess it consisted of many splinter cells operating on their own just using his name as a referral to some central person, like many rogue terrorist groups claim to be tied to Al-Qaeda to gain more legitimacy.

I suppose we'll see what this cat is all about as we go forward, unfortunately. Doesn't sound like anyone knows much about him. Of course, most of us had never heard the name Al-Zarqawi before the Iraq war...

True. I'm sure they'll try to arrange some really nasty "come back" attack in the next few days. Somehow I get the feeling they are never going to be the same though.
