Re: yeah, religion and government
everyone sucks.
and just think, if we would have bombed him one day earlier, we would of hit him.
Re: yeah, religion and government
i,m actually getting sick of hearing about islam, i,m an athiest, i believe that religeon is a bigger killer than drugs etc etc combined and doubled, the power of delusion is more powerfull than most people think it is....god is dangerous in ALL religeons.
Re: yeah, religion and government
except some religions stress peacefulness and respect for other religions, the prominent members of this little group stress forced conversions or murder. think about the fact that in a lot of these areas, converting away is death.
Re: yeah, religion and government
you have a point there but still i think the belief in something thats not there is a dangerous thing...in some my eyes sometimes it can be classed as a mental health thing....just the way i see it
Re: yeah, religion and government
religion gives hope and optimism to a lot of people. it isnt bad. its very good. but should be valued along with a healthy dose and understanding that not everyone wants to share your view.
Re: yeah, religion and government
hey i totally agree with you man...for some people its good for them but can you imagine a world without religeous boundaries? i honestly dont try to force my thoughts on this subject into people although sometimes it may seem like that...i,m a firm believer in that you should be aloud to believe in what you want but being brought up as a catholic in this country as a child and being forced to goto church and choir practice just ended it for me @ an early age...i dont believe that religeon should be introduced to children at such an impressionable time in there life.
Re: yeah, religion and government
same shit here, catholic from an italian immigrant and a first gen irish lady. i still beleive in god, have a healthy respect for it, but i dont fear him. havent gone to mass in ages, dont live like i do, but ill say a prayer when i feel i should(visiting graves, sad events) but i would rather see god in the world like when someone helps another person selflessly, or even when you see a father playing with his kid at a park and the kid loves it. thats god in action, whatever religion views him as.

Thanks John Lennon
Both of you make good points. each religion should state love thy neighbor and not to be violent. O wait, they do, then why all of the fuckn fighting. Religion is an excure IMO. I am Catholic as well, but I don't practice it. It would be nice to have peace in the world for just one day. Maybe we can set an initiative to create Peace Day. On that day, no one commits a crime, no one kills, and all wars are on a 1 day truce. Think how relaxing that day would be. Too bad I am too lazy. Someone start it for me please

i dont fear it @ all i,m just sick of the constant lies your fed from an early age when one of the so called sins is lieing....the bible is just full of so much bull that by the time you grow up your totally brainwashed with a set of values that contradict themselves left right and centre, they are quick to tell you what they think and feal but when it comes to questioning the actual facts that this way of life has been based on they are quick to run with there tails between there legs....lets face it were living in an age where everything has or will be proven due to science or whatever but where is the proof that there is a god?..there is none!!...its just control, a way of life in which you will do what the "great book" says you must do...look @ the bible...it was written in a time where people believed in sourcery and other crap like that so why should a book written over a thousand years ago be so relivant to todays way of living...you only have to look @ the vatikins stance on condoms in a world riddled with aids...its just about control and power....the way i look @ god is that its kind of like a natural fear humans have to things like spiders or snakes and religeon uses that fear to creat power and control.
amen
Re: yeah, religion and government
the Bible is full of "man made stories" in a sense. It also poses as a History book to a lot of people. nothing in it is even straight forward. I believe in God but not to into religion. The 10 commandments are pretty easy to follow and if you think about it, they kind of promote good friendly living.
a good example is about Noah's Ark. There is no proof of any flood covering the Earth at that time. This was proved scientifically that there was no flood). The story is more about a trader who was living in a flood plain in the area in Iraq. Jewish leaders who heard the story changed it up a bit to put fear into people.
Then the parting of the red sea. It was actually in a marshy area near the red sea which was know as the sea of reeds. See the closeness in name? Just like here in Florida, when low tide hits, you can walk through the marsh which is usually full of water during high tide. No one split the red sea.
I agree that everyone should just practice their religion in private. The world would be a better place.
Re: yeah, religion and government
never happen though ^^.. the muslims fight with everybody on the earth..
They fight with the budhists in Thailland. They dont like the sheiks They don't like Catholics.. obviously They don't even like themselves.. They aren't affraid to fight with each other.
A very aggresive religion.

I don't think in our lifetime any of us will see that area peaceful
Re: yeah, religion and government
"That's another 50 million Muslims. There will be 100 million Muslims in Europe. Albania, which is a Muslim country, has already entered the E.U."
"Bosnia, which is a Muslim country, has already entered the E.U. Fifty percent of its citizens are Muslims."
This caught my attention (for obvious reasons ;))...
First of all, neither Albania nor Bosnia have entered the EU. Hell, Albania is still recovering from 60 years of xenofobic communist rule. And Bosnia is still recovering from the war... Anyway, it says enough about the quality of the rest of the factual data in the text.
But there's more...
I really don't see why Al-Qadhafi talks about Albania and Bosnia. Yes, Albania has a majority of muslims (70%) and yes Bosnia Herzigovina has 40% muslims, but that's no reason to depict them as muslim states like for instance Pakistan. There is a clear dividing line between religion and state like in any European country.
Apart from that, the guy obviously has never been in the Balkan. Yes, there are muslims, but in general they're as muslim as the rest of the European are christian. It plays a role in traditions and the culture, but the way they practice their religion isn't AT ALL like in the Arab countries. Religion is - again like in all European countries - considered a private matter. Hell, when I talk to my Albanian friends about religion, we exchange ideas and views. It's not like they treat me like an infidel who needs to be converted or decapitated.
And last but not least, the entire Balkan is Western oriented. No way that they're gonna turn fundamentalist on our asses. Not after NATO ended the war by bombing the shit out of the Serb troups cleansing the region of muslims (in fact Albanians who migrated there during the Diaspora). Not while both the US as the EU have and still are funding universities, schools, hospitals, projects to relieve ethnic tension, ...
Like Dom I've just had it with this Islam (read fundamentalist) conquering the world propaganda. But I've also had it with the Bush administration holding the Bible in one hand and the finger on the button with the other hand. It strikes us less cuz most of us grew up in a christian/jewish world, but I can understand that for people with another belief this might sound as agressive as the other side. Yes, the God camp doesn't shout as hard and extreme as the Allah camp, but it strikes harder in terms of military action. (not taking sides here)
What sickens me most about the above is that religion keeps being abused to rally up people behind a political idea and/or agression towards other groups.
I myself am baptised a christian. I'm not religious at all, but I am spiritual. I mean that I try to live by a set of values and principles that are in fact common factors in most religions. I'm not sure if there is a devine entity, but I'm not denying it either. The one thing I'm sure of is when there comes a moment when we have to answer for our deeds, I'll be having my told-ya-so face on while all these fundamentalists (from both sides) get their ass whooped for their arrogance.
As for the points made about the Bible... Yes, they are man made. No, some are not historically/scientifically correct, but that's not the way you have to read it. They're metaphores you need to interpret. But for some reason the christians stopped doing that. When you look at the Qu'oran, it's full of man made stories too, but a lot of those stories were written down to educate the people about health/ethic/social issues. I don't feel like going into that right now, but if you want examples, I'll gladly give them...

AMEN ( a controled AMEN ) lol
bush aint stupid but he's dangerous, the first thing he done when he got into power was goto war on iraq continuing what his dad didnt finish and in order to do this he needed to get a secondary "army" to do this and he freinded the christian faith knowing that this would become unpopular with fundamentalists which would start shít.

Re: yeah, religion and government
Basically religion is nothing more than a few legends and stories brought together which created a nice story that could be a good guideline for how people should live during those times.
Most of it is all crap with the exception of a few very good moral values. And during the centuries it has become worse and worse. Religion has become the way to oppress people because it deals with the one uncertainty people seemingly cant live well with.
As i see religion its something that should get the fuck out of this world. Who the fuck even cares wethere there's a god or not, we will never find out during our lifetime. So why bother believing shit by priests who know shit more than you. The same for Ayatolahs, Imams etc etc.
Religious institutes have and will always be the biggest criminal organisations in the history of mankind. I think the Vatican laughs about organisations like the Cosa Nostra who need to fund themselves with illegal practice. Just like banks aughs at us for screwing us with their interest rates, also a form of legal crime.
I wont go as far as calling everyone a retard who believes in god (although :D) but sure everyone who thinks a priest or monk can tell them about god and his intentions. Come on get a life....dumb fucks
