maybe this belongs in "politics" but.......taken from another board...http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread202159/pg1

What is making us NOT fight back?

US, Canada, Brittain, Austrailia and other countries - rights and freedoms are being taken away at a steady pace.

Eaves dropping

Email reading

Freedom of speech

Pariot Act

National Biometric ID

Detainment changes

No warrant search and seisure

Road blocks

Immigration

Free trade

Federal Reserve

Bush signing laws without houses ok

Protesters jailed

Media hushed

No more privacy

You could a LOT more to this list, yet no one is stopping it. No one can even slow it down. No one is fighting it. Almost everyone is just letting it happen.

Why?

There is no fight in people anymore. Plenty of complaining, but no action. Bush would have been impeached years ago if this were in the early 20th century. Folks would have been fuming angry.

We're all guilty of doing nothing or not enough - even myself. Writing our congressmen does nothing. Protesting has been pushed away from the ears that need to hear it. Less are protesting because we are being jailed and no one wants the hassle.

What is causing us to have no fight within us anymore? Is it something in our food? the air? elcromagnetic frequencies? the water? our shampoo? Is it a lifestyle where no longer the man can make enough to support a family? Is it brainwashing from the television/radio?

This site was put together to educate and help MANY more people see what is really going on in so many area's. ATS has really opened my eyes in my 2 years of membership.

Yet we continue to complain about what our leaders are doing and almost never hear of something good from them.

Our growing group is labelled crazy, conspiracy theorists and even terrorists. Yet we are the ones that should be the true patriots.

We still call ourselves 'free' while folks are being jailed for words that come from their mouths. While our telephone conversations could be recorded. While our internet habits are monitored. While we getting pulled over and searched while violating no laws. While (add your action here).

What is going on? Our leaders would have never gotten away with this crap 60 years ago. Why are they today? I think it is possible that there is something going on that is making us passive, laying back and doing nothing. I don't know what it is though.

Re: Wake up America!!!!

2 party system. and sheer overreaction from both sides and catering to stupid special interests.

im telling you, we just need to get rid of everyone there and let the comedians run relations, and accountants run the finance, and systematically kill off everyone. my ultimate goal is too gain control of this planet and drain the will of every person until my name becomes the definirtion for everything.

Re: Wake up America!!!!

The masses are manipulated into consumerism and the exsitence of the daily fraud potrayed as reality Like sightless's ideas except for his desire for ultimate control I think the Political board should be enough for now.

Re: Wake up America!!!!

Complacency is definatley the issue. The influence is in numbers and non-confrontationism reigns right now. What will it take? A true media would help. Coverage of protests and the reasons there-in - but this is all kept from exposure by the powers that be and the sheep don't get told.

Re: Wake up America!!!!

in the end though, it isnt that bad. there arent more than a handful of places in the world where the citizens can operate as freely as we do. even in europe they force the hasidem and muslim people to forgo their religious garb in areas, socialists dictate how and how much you operate business, and more. like eavesdropping. dude, they arent eavesdropping joe blow, they are tapping ppl with militant ties to the middle east and other rougue groups. freedom of speech is great here, we dont jail holocost deniers, we just call them morons, yeah we moderate TV and Radio a bit too much, but i blame parents there, they can shut the TV off if thier kids are watching playboy. there are beefs i have with the patriot act, but it helps in many ways on the governmental side of ensuring our safety. there will never be a biometric ID, just talk of it. with regards to detainment, if abu gharib guards fuck with the people who were shooting at us, then so be it. we arent torturing them(outside of the fuckwits who are in jail), just making thier lives miserable. the roadblocks arent random. search and seizure unwarrented is shitty, but if it turns up a bomb, then its worth it IMHO> immigration does need a nice look at. free trade is the way to go, but sometimes falters, frankly because the vast majority of public couldnt give a fuck. all protestors should be jailed. when you block streets and start fights, you are bothering more people than you need to. go vote for someone who will change. media isnt hushed at all as far as i can see, we turn up every stupid scandal we can while constantly listening to morons like al franken and bill oreilly about every issue of the day.

and lastly, we have plenty of privacy.

Re: Wake up America!!!!

Ah.....some of you are so close.

It's really just that we have too much to lose. Something bad happens, the government convinces us to take precautionary measures by restricting our freedoms. We sacrifice a little to hold on to a lot. At some point it will catch up with us.

It's just like the rich guy who pays other people to protect his money. He gives up money in the hopes that he will be able to protect his giant mound of cash. It's counterproductive. The expense is guaranteed, the returns are not, but people do it because they cannot tolerate complete loss.

There is only one worldly thing with any lasting value, freedom. Freedom is the only way countries can generate synergy from many people with many different ideas living together in a common space. But since people in our countries are dedicated to being the best, and not the freest, we all lose collectively.

At one point it was understood that free and best were synonymous. Today people think that best is a quantity. Best is the wealth in dollars, the average life span in years, the average number of child deaths per 1,000 births, the number of crimes, the number of hurricanes, the percentage of poverty.

The more moves we make to manipulate the way our countries on paper, the worse they are to live in.
they arent eavesdropping joe blow, they are tapping ppl with militant ties to the middle east and other rougue groups.
They are tapping everyone and sorting it out later. Ever heard of Project Shamrock or ECHELON? I suggest you read this post I made yesterday regarding the suit filed by EFF: http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25777

Anyways I came across this post elsewhere which is relevant to the main topic and also interesting:
One wonders where the public will draw the line. Reminds me of the recent Boston Legal monologue from the epsidoe "Stick It" where the lawyer (who gives the following monologue) is defending a woman against tax evasion charges. I find it very apt:

When the weapons of mass destruction thing turned out to be not true, I expected the American people to rise up. Ha! They didn't.

Then, when the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that our government participated in rendition, a practice where we kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. We stood mute.

Then came the news that we jailed thousands of so-called terrorists suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. Certainly, we would never stand for that. We did.

And now, it's been discovered the executive branch has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens. You and me. And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. Evidentially, we haven't.

In fact, if the people of this country have spoken, the message is we're okay with it all. Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial - or any trial, war on false pretenses. We, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.

There are no demonstrations on college campuses. In fact, there's no clear indication that young people seem to notice.

Well, Melissa Hughes noticed. Now, you might think, instead of withholding her taxes, she could have protested the old fashioned way. Made a placard and demonstrated at a Presidential or Vice-Presidential appearance, but we've lost the right to that as well. The Secret Service can now declare free speech zones to contain, control and, in effect, criminalize protest.

Stop for a second and try to fathom that.

At a presidential rally, parade or appearance, if you have on a supportive t-shirt, you can be there. If you are wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed.

This, in the United States of America. This in the United States of America. Is Melissa Hughes the only one embarrassed?
