When Sinead O'Connar ripped up that picture of the pope many of her fans were all really pissed and many of them boo'd her at the next concert. I don't see kanye's fans doing the same thing, but hopefully I'm wrong.
Sinead also did this on Saturday night live which was not planned, and it seemed that it was looked down upon by the people who run the show. People should not only be mad at kanye, but at the magazine as well. They are the ones that actually printed it for everyone to see.

I will cut him some slack as being one of the few voices in the superficial world of bling bling rap to say [I]something[/I] meaningful. His music is great and he is trying to make a difference. More than can be said of 99% of his peers.
This stunt is a little over the top but Jesus imagry doesn't mean anything to me anyway so if he pissed off a bunch of uptight conservative christian coalition far right wing assholes, good on him.
