the USA went to shit when we started making laws that ppl cant be offended by one thing or another. it wasnt enough that it was illegal to act on it, but now we cant even have the thoughts.

too much or too little homework. white and black america not understanding each other. ""god bless"" your kid is too stupid to move up a grade catering to everyone(democrats) vs telling them tough shit(repub) BI FUCKING PARTISAN GROUPS. we cannot hate a certain group of ppl or we are wrong.

many many more

we live in a place where we cant sell cigarettes to minors(i agree here) but we let fat ppl go to mcdonalds. where rather than changing the station, we write letters to the networks to remove programming. (i find it offensive that ray romano thinks he is funny, he lasted 9 years) when groups dont like something about the actions of another that have no direct effect on them, they sue (shiavo, bible in courts, cursing on cable, fucking microsoft) .....

much much more to come. (trust me, you will all be offended)

Go Sightless, I'm looking forward to the extensions of this rant, so far I'm with you. Even though my country is not there yet, some pretty ridiculous shit is taking place here as well now...

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

Society sucks these days.

People (kids especially) think they can do whatever they want and not face the repercussions.

Everyone wants to blame someone or something else and no longer take responsiblity for their actions....aka THEY CAN'T THINK FOR THEMSELVES ANYMORE. (so much for a brain I guess)

The lawsuits/suing is so out of control it is probably beyond fixing. I'm waiting for someone to sue planet Earth next

and a small update(trust me the list will be updated weekly)

that little shit who threw the frozen turkey out his car's window, across the highway, through a woman's front windsheild, nearly killing her, causeing her entire skull to be reconstructed for two days of non stop surgury, and spending 9 months in the hospital, well, the little shit was sentenced to 5 months in prison. less time the woman spent in the hopsital........(liberal court stateNY) this is why we need conservative courts and liberal laws.

we have old jews and christians who tell us we cant smoke in bars, soon we cant smoke in cars, we arent allowed to have a beer on a public street unless its a ""approved function"", we cant sell weed, but we can smoke cigarettes then sue the makers, we sacrifice what the majority wants for the sake of a minority(not racial in term), they tell us who we can hire and who we can fire, they say unions are great, but approve the WTO, NAFTA, they open our borders but prosecute illegal immigrants, they complain about overspending, but spend 2 million a year to see how much water pressure the ""old glory"" geyser has, they encourage learning , but put laws into effect so a child cannot be held back for failing classes, out tax code is 4 times larger than our criminal code AND civil code, but ""we cut taxes"", rather than telling someone to turn something offensive off(re:TV/radio), when its aired, they let ppl sue the stations, we encourage healthy eating, but let mcdonalds market more than any farming/livestock union, THEN, they let ppl sue for getting fat, they also let us sue places for burning ourselves with hot coffee, a burgular can sue a homeowner he hurts himself during a robbery, a candidate can say at 8 am that ""all guns are bad and should be limited to the military"", then at 4 PM be in a photo op shooting ducks with a shotgun, ............................

In a philosophy class, sure. I think it's ridiculous, though, to pander to these folks that quite simply want to teach religion in schools, whether they do it overtly or backdoor it with concepts like "intelligent design."

Suppose I believe, contrary evidence be damned, that the moon is made of cheese. Does that mean that schools should teach that some people believe that the moon is a big hunk of rock, while others believe it is made of cheese?

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

toasty, im usually on your boat.

however

why the hell are we debating on what to teach, the more knowledge we learn the better. teach the basises of all the religions in public schools, maybe just so ppl will understand each other in a generation of two. teach all the sciences. teach all the maths. force the fucking kids to learn something for once. my sister teaches 7th grade math in NYC public schools and the kids dont know multiplication but they know how to programme thier cell phones to play ""generic shitty rap song"" . knowledge never hurt anyone. call the class ""religions of the world"". and if ppl are offended, tell them ignorance is bliss. so toughen up and learn something.

on a different note.

funny how the bitch from the times looks even worse now and is trying to implicate others..... maybe rove and her should just be put into a cell together and shut the case.

I'm all for giving kids a broad base of information. There is, however, a difference between empirical knowledge and theoretical knowledge. If they want to teach what the various religions of the world believe, I'm all for it, as long as it is in the proper setting, as you suggest. Teaching intelligent design in science class is absurd, though, because it has no basis in science.

And yes, I'm aware that evolution is still technically just a "theory," but it is a theory that has support in the scientific record, which is more than I can say for the alternatives.

To summarize:

Teaching about religion = good. Teaching religious belief as fact = bad.

I suspect we're actually pretty close to being on the same page on this one, once it's all fleshed out.

#496144Post 19 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

selling the religions is bad, but informing is all the better.

i went to catholic school all my life. i am far from an active participating catholic. we learned judiaism and islam in school. granted we had a specific class about christianity and went inito depth, but learning about greek orthodox, and the other 2 as well as some of the asian schools of thought did me well i think.

seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the muslims in the middle east? i mean stabbing a nun????? cutting your kids heads????chopping off pppl's feet and hands???

i KNOW there are MILLIONS of nice ppl of the faith, but comon, these cats hitting the news arent do you any favors. even the crusades had a bit more ""lee way"" in the treatment of enemies. having 10 year old kids marching around with AK's isnt helping how ppl view you in the rest of the world. its getting to where some are saying ""they are savages, let them be""

end offensive rant.

#497085Post 21 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

Totally with you on this one S, it's just fucking ridiculous. But you know, these days for some people it is not at all about 'really feeling offended' anymore, they will actually seek out any opportunity with the slightest hint and suddenly go bonkers over it, saying it is offensive to them and their religion.

Somehow I get the feeling it is part of a trend right now in which there is a rupture appearing in Islam between the moderates/progressives and the hardliners: the latter ones are regarding increasingly more and more elements in this world as their enemy. Interesting to see what will happen, maybe finally another schism in the Islamic church?

This would be on a totally different level than the current Sunni, Shi'i and Wahabite currents (and more, there was about 6 or 7 of those) in Islam, this would be something more like the transformation Christianity has undergone in Europe, virtually rooting out it's militant side...

Maybe it's wishful thinking, maybe i'm wrong. But i'm hoping...

If I'm not mistaken, the last time we had a balnced budget, it was on a democrat's watch. The labels don't mean shit anymore. There's nothing remotely republican about Bush.

#501759Post 24 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

indeed...going back to that though, it starts to again fall on those who don't think. The successes in life always have some type of a backup plan. Maybe not in the realm of "all hell breaking loose" or "absolute worst case scenario" but they have a backup should shit like this happen (rising energy prices, gas spikes, minor catastrophes, etc.). "Responsible budgeting" the government should do, yes, but it's ultimately up to the individual to responsibly budget their own personal spendings to alleviate these shortcomings.

Oh wait, then there's people with 8 credit cards, more debt then can be fathomed, and they spend still on worthless crap...then complain when the major stuff goes up because they "can't afford it"...my bad...

thats cause the market was entirely over inflated and the taxes were 20% higher on anything called an investment, small corps, partnership both were over taxed. and the AMT was never adjusted so about 80% of the population was killed by it.

hey, im no fan of either group, both the democrats are as full of shit as the republicans.

we need a HUGE war, holy or race driven.

everyone hates the muslims, everyone hates the jews, everyone hates the west, whites vs blacks, china vs japan,

lets fight it out, and see who wins.

or

lets divide up the world to people who like each other. we can just isolate certain areas. whites and latinos can have the americas. we get along pretty well, and other than that moron chavez, not many have problems with each other. muslims(arabic and Persian and african in backround) can take africa and the parts of the middle east that are west of iraq. the Hindu people and their minor sects can have india and east all the way to the coast. oriental and mongolian peoples can have the northern regions of western asia. europe can be for the socialist peoples who, like me, dont give a fuck who you are, just as long as your cool. all the northern european peoples can keep the area currently known as sweeden

to all you ultra liberal pussies who value rights over lives (not in the christian sense), turns out one of the jordanian bombers was probably arrested by the US and had to be released..... the ACLU and Amnesty international, turning criminals and murderers loose for years. #512305Post 36 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

yes. the US ARMY had previously detained one of the jordan bombers, but had to release him. i guess its not a crime until you actually commit it. sad thing is, when suicide bombers do thier crimes, well, the only ppl who pay, are those who die.

#513140Post 37 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

^^^ So now we should start arresting people for thoughts? Sounds a bit minority report like. I understand things have to be done but now you want to give the government powers to arrest people before a crime has even been committed. I find it hard to believe you don't see a problem with that. Maybe they'll start arresting guys your own age for thinking dirty thoughts about that hot 17 y/o you though was 18, again just pondering the thought.

BTW if they were plotting to bomb, I've got news for you... its a crime.

#513272Post 39 of 39

Re: the possibly dumbest or smartest thing i have said.

It's like with that bomber-to-be here Samir A, that got arrested and was in posession of materials and also a stack of blueprint from govt buildings, but noooo....he was released. Assholes. Luckily they have arrested him again, together with a bunch of other militants and they are supposed to have been planning a number of attacks on members of parliament, ministers and whatnot. I hope they lock him up forgood now, because if they don't i'll me seeing him someday.

There's one thing the police can do though, which is pretty funny: they are allowed to follow such people after their release, and not just tail them, but be present in the open and actively present. They do so to discourage them and let them know they're being watched, so it can happen that when you're such a suspect and walking down the street, a cop walks up to you and asks how you mother is doing, hahaha!! They are nagging and bullying, I think it's hilarious and it's seriously annoying for the one being monitored like this. I think the police has actually pushed this legislation through since they don't have much other weapons over here...fucking govt should give the justice dept. a whole lot more tools and authorisations to gather evidence IMO.

Did you know they are protecting justice magistrates right now, because they arrested 45 Hell's Angels a few weeks back: now they're afraid of retaliatory actions. Wtf...how about you arrest any Hell's Angel on sight from now on? If they resist, shoot. Basta.
