What do you'll think about his comments on "taking out" the Venenzuelan president Chavez? I don't agree with his comments and I'm sure plenty of Christians don't agree with him either. The problem is that many non-Christians will be turned off even more by comments like this.

What I find interesting about the Venezuela situation is that they are one of the biggest exporters of oil to the U.S. and Chavez wants to look for other buyers than the U.S. for their oil. It seems like we're ready to go to war or some calling for war with countries that have oil.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

moron.

he isnt helping the far right seem any more amiacable. compare it to someone like al franken saying we shouldn't prosecute criminals.

like i said, he aint helping his cause and he obviously has no clue of what south america is. catholic and socialist based democracy. not islamic communism with a dictator.

if we ignore him, he will go away, stop giving him attention, it fuels him.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

First, he didnt say "take him out". He said there are policies of assasination in place, maybe its time we do that.

He later tried to say that he said "take him out". Video of this was on The Daily Show, and is now posted @ crooksandliars.com.

He is an idiot.

Second, although I dont really care for Al Franken, in no way shape of form has he ever said that we shouldnt prosecute criminals. That is just stupid sightless, and you know it.

Regardless, Robertsons comments are coming from a prominent Christian, one who appears on Fox News on a weekly basis, and a man who ran for President as a republican in 1988.

The funniest thing about his comments were that "Chavez is a brutal dictator" which is totally false, and that "he is a communist which will lead to muslim extremism" which is just bizarre.

He was twice elected with more than 80% of the vote, and communism usually forbids religion.

The guy is out ot lunch.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

umm, when did i say that franken saidf that???

i tried to illustrate a point of a liberal saying something terribly stupid for thier end. the far left doesnt like heavy jail time for criminals or death penalty, so i took it a step too far like this moron took for his viewpoints. he is a moron, we just have to ignore him and he'll go away(robertson).

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

lmao, Eye, even I as a Dutchie understood that Al Franken never really said that. It was just an example...anyway, if Sightless care to post the rant on that shit got from me, be my guest mate. Saves me a lot of typing again ;-)

I'll say one thing though: God should take his moron servant Pat Robertson out with a lighting bolt up the ass IMO.

I agree with you guys, Pat Robertson is an idiot in many ways. :AssKicki: He sounds like a fool to me most of the time. Sometimes he may make a good point about something, but he really needs to just preach and stay out of politics.

To quote myself:
What an unbelieveable cunt. Seriously.

First of all...words like this coming from the mouth of a hardliner christian leader? Holy shit...that guy must've totally forgotten what that damn fave book of his was all about in the first place!

And then, I think the biggest fucking mistake for the States at this very moment would be to actually hear the man and do as he says...omfg...you thought the Palestinian question was bad? Then wait what you get when this or anything of the same nature would happen in Latin America. Down there they're fed up with the States mingling in their business, so much has to be clear. Actually, that points out that the man really has shit-for brains, not to see that. And what the bloody fuck is this rambling about communism and Muslim extremism????????? They're socialist, not communist! Why doesn't that guy read one goddamn book before spitting out such idiocy in public? Muslims in the ?ber catholic South-America...RIIIIIGGGHHHTTTT....

Can someone please put that guy himself out of his misery? Tank you kindly in advance.

Thanks for the link bro..., I'm quite you'll have a good laugh over my heated reaction, but dayum...so much dumbness in one person? I didn't believe it was possible, hahahaha!!
Though I don't agree with Robertson, I have heard something also about Muslims moving into Venezuala. I think they are moving anywhere and everywhere they can ... 1. for a better life than there desert homelands, and 2. to evangelise the world, which they are suppose to do if following Allah completely.

I don't know much on the move of muslims there really, but only heard it was happening. I don't think they could care less if the country is mostly catholic. :|

sry yao, i was away for the weekend. the guy is a retard.

whats even more retarded is that chavez wants us to arrest and extradite him. he didnt do anythin wrong outside of being an asshole. here ill say i want to see kim jong dead. (looks outside window for FBI). how many people say we should kill bush and cheney? are we asking for them to be extradited?

everyday, i grow more fearful to walk outside my home.,

im going back to my day off.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

ROFL

enjoy it Sightless!

Rob: I'm sure Muslims are moving into any area in the world, either for evangelisation or if they think it's a good place to hide and prepare some more mayem. However, the Islam has only a really really small place in Latin-American History as far as I know, so I don't see it getting foot on the ground there real soon. Luckily state control is usually a bit bigger out there than in Africa, personally I'd worry more about the latter one, especially Somalia, Sudan and Northern Africa where the extremist branch is still obviously present...

#468359Post 14 of 24

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

Yao, I can only respectfully disagree with you. In that, maybe 50 years ago, we would not have expected France to be 20% muslim.

The Latin-American history has most likely not had much of any Islamic presence, but neither has my hometown. Only since the Olympics came to Atlanta has our international population of ALL peoples increased so rapidly. My hometown outside of Atlanta was only a little backwards ass country town 20 years ago, now you almost can't find Americans when you pumping gas or walking thru the grocery store.

So, many ethnicities have come to my hometown, including Muslims, and I think because of the ease of travel nowadays people are leaving homelands at an alarming rate to find a place to make a better life. This is happening all over the world, not just in Latin-America, or my hometown, or Europe, but everywhere.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

OK I hear on that one. It's just that I'm kinda hesitant in accepting the thought that the extemist side would get a hold on such a fanatic Catholic continent...

I'm really sure they will move into the continent, but somehow I have the idea that the tolerance for another belief, and especially an egressive spread of it will be pretty low. The only problem could be the relative high degree of dissatisfaction with governments, even though they're doing much better than in Africa in general. That is always a weak point, because where the state fails, religion will tend to fill the power vacu?m. If they can prevent that, they may be able to prevent the Islam from spreading too much in Latin America...

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

The most interesting part of all of this is the reponse of the shocked media to Robertson's comments. I mean...to think that the "benevolent" U.S. would ever meddle in the political affairs of other sovereign nation.

The media's blatant double speak and negligent rewriting of historical fact is astounding. How many Latin American and Middle Eastern dictators has the CIA put into power? How many times has the U.S. government provided financial and ideology support for tyrants who oppress their own population while marching to the tune of the politicos in Washington.
Robertson's comments are not shocking at all. Rather, they are in lockstep with the covert operations of the U.S. government.

It is amazing that the meda does not pay more attention to this! If a democracy can crudely be described as a political system where the public makes informed decisions about the fate of their institutions, the United States, a dismal failure in this respect, is democratic experiment run awry.

Why aren't these incontrovertiblel facts paraded in the media? And, why aren't our leaders held accountable?

Pat Robertson, and others of his ilk, serve as red herrings for a political body that is tettering on moral bankruptcy.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

Why should Chavez be killed?

#470053Post 19 of 24

because he is ruining the country i love.. he madew the middle class non existent. so you either have a lot or have nothing at all.

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

I actually should have been in class now following Politics in Latin America, in which I'm pretty sure the teacher will adress Venezuela & Chavez plenty. Unfortunately they've fucked up some things, so there seems to be no class today  Was looking forward to it.

They say the man still has 70% backing though, and he's pretty damn popular with the lower class people...

#470084Post 21 of 24

lower class people support him..like they say ignorance is bliss... when he campaingned for pres about 8 years ago he promised a lot of things (as most candidates do) but he actually sounded genuine. he seemed like a regular folk, just trying to better his country and steer away from traditional politics.. little did we know that he wanted to turn venezuela into cuba....

what' scrazy to me is that he tried to overturn carlos andres perez in 1991 by setting up a military coop (coupe).. now he is president...only in venezuela :roll:

#470098Post 22 of 24

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

No man, that happens in both Africa and Latin-America, don't be ashamed for it...most coup-plotters don't do that out of the blue, they do have a legitimate basis for that among part of the people (legitimate being support from the people they represent, or pretend to represent). So when they try to obtain the ultimate power tool (State/Presidency) thru politics, they can usually count on quite some support in the elections...Sick mechanisms, and all too often very cunningly exploited.

"I risked my life for you people, now support me in the elections otherwise hardship will never come to and end".

Re: Pat Robertson and Venezuela

I'm sorry, but it is difficult for me to feel sorry for those in the middle and upper-middle class that have lost status / property because of Chavez's socialist movement. In many ways, property rights are merely a mechanism for financial inheritance and fucntion to perpetuate a system which skews the distribution of wealth.

I know it is pretty easy for me to say all of this seeing as I live a middle-class life style in the U.S. But, I would be more than happy to give up much of what I own in order to shift some of that material wealth to those who are not even able to secure daily subsistence.

Property rights are a privilege not an unforsakable right. People
can't find steady employment. They don't have health care, housing, or adequate food. But, the middle class complains because they can no longer afford that nice 15,000 square foot house. PLEASE!!! Let's have a little perspective here.

I have no doubt that Chavez has not kept all of his promises. Indeed, it is difficult for any leader, revolutionary or otherwise, to keep all of their idealistic campaign promises because, once they are in office, they discover how massive the government bureaucracy is and how difficult it is to move the enormous ship of state in a practical manner, while maintaining the decisive support of the people. The question is... are Chavez's ideas commendable and do they represent a political movement in the right direction? From what I have read and seen, I would have to say that this appears to be the case. But then again, I don't live in Venezuela.
