why cant the terrorist target all these civil libertarians that are protesting in manhatten today, or maybe thier kids? it would be nice to see that the topics these whino's are fighting for are the ones who get thier families killed.

why cant.................................
^ That would make to much sense. Come on they are terrorists not bounty hunters. But it would be nice though.
Re: why cant.................................
Excuse my ignorance, but what are they protesting for/against?
Re: why cant.................................
they were protesting the random bag searches in NYC under the moniker of it infringes on civil liberties and they had tried to froce people onto the subway past the cops making a huge scene. then they started screaming at the cops when the cops booted them from the subway.
protesters and demonstrators in general are TWATS. and that goes for anyone who ever went out to one. i dont care who you are. you werent doing your cause any favors, you were just pissing off the people who live/work where you were. go get a job you whino.
Re: why cant.................................
I've only done it once, in Berlin, against the invasion of Iraq. Of course we lost :D
Sometimes protesting is your only democratic means of expressing your utter disagreement with the way the government is doing things. Plain and simple.

Catch 22. Because if the protesters had their way it makes things easier for terrorists, so in a sense they are on the same side. Now with that said remember the terrorists want our freedoms gone in the first place. These people were standing up for your rights as well. Sorry to hear you were inconvienced but saying it would be nice to see their families killed is a bit, well, terrorist like.
What I'm curious about is why they are not using bomb sniffing dogs rather than actually searching people. No rights would be violated then. :?
Re: why cant.................................
you could never have a bomb sniffing dog in a NYC subway
- the smells and exhaust would hurt the dog.
- too many people.
- a dog in the middle of a rush hour commute at Penn Station would be a disaster. it would bite people.
Re: why cant.................................
Methinks you are underestimating the conditioning of those dogs mate...tho i do agree on the fact that all the odours and gasses there may confuse the dog. ;-)
Every time i go into a supermarket, I get searched. Everytime i go into the bank, I get searched. Everytime i go to the train station, i get searched. Everytime I go to the Mall i get searched. Everytime i enter a government building, I get searched. Everytime i go into a cafe i get searched. . . etc.
Does it erode my civil liberties - i guess it does, but more so, it ensures that i can go on demonstrations for my civil liberties by ensuring that i don't get blown up going about my day to day life.
In a world where the 'enemy' looks like you and me we need to take certain actions to ensure we can all live free lives. Bag searches unfortunaly are a necessary evil to ensure we all carry on living.

yao, you obviously have never been in a NYC subway in the summer. imagine a hojmeless man taking a shit on one end of the platform, a group of sweaty men who cook in an indian cuisine kitchen, 3 kicked over garbage pails, puddle if piss, empty beer bottles, and 700 people packed into a 200 by 15 foot area. there is a reason i cab it rather than hop the subway. and in june-sept it gets to be about 110 degrees farenheight down there.
Well how about positioning the dogs at the entrance areas rather than in the subway. I've never been to NY so I don't know if its practical. Also if dogs won't work there's devices such as preconcentrators that are capable of "sniffing" out bomb making chemicals, though dogs can still out perform them. These devices are the size of a portable metal detector.
Actually a quick search shows they are already using bomb sniffing dogs as I stated above:

Dave- I'm sorry you have to live that way. I certianly hope we don't end up that way. However our rights are being taken everyday. Just look at the Patriot Act. People have been arrested under it, not charged with any crime, detained for 2 weeks, with no ability to talk to an attorney. Then they are released after having no connection to terrorism. Some guy was arrested for pointing a laser (from a hand held green laser pen) at a plane under the Patriot Act, with the authorities stating that he had nothing to do with terrorism. Because they had nothing else to charge him with so they used it.
Even if terrorism was gone tomorrow these rights will never come back, our govt. only takes.

I usually use extremes in order to illustrate my views: you would be very safe if you lived in a prision cell too, no terrorism worries, fears of getting hit by a car, etc. I doesen't mean I want to live that way. Personally I'll take the chance that I could die by means of terrorism at the cost of my freedom. Statistically your more likely to die in a plane or in a car accident.
Secondly I might point out that the terrorists want us to feel their pains by making us live in fear and turning us into a police state. If you set a goal and you make no progress towards it you would be more likely to give up, however the way it looks is that they are making progress towards their goals.
Re: why cant.................................
neooee, to summize NYC i will say this
on the island on manhatten itself, what ppl outside outide of NY view as NYC, there are about 3.5 million living on an island that is less than 3 miles wide and 8 miles long. then you have to add in the other 4 boroughs. which host about another few million. yeah, it gets crowded
and frankly, i find it sad that you would put your morals and views on liberties above other people's lives, its kinda ironic that you want to ensure every freedom and liberty except the right to maintain life.

Again I could be perfectly safe, probably would never even get sick if I stayed in my house 24-7-365. Life's a waste if you have to live like your in a prision.
I'm not saying we stand back and let terrorists have their way. There are ways we can prevent these attacks without handing over our freedoms. Your only suggestions thus far have been to take them, I've suggested viable alternatives, to which your response was something along the lines of its not possible- only for me to turn up an article stating thats exactly what is being done.
How about we actually stop the terrorists from coming into this country instead of forcing its own citizens to forefit its rights? Secondly, most if not all of the terrorists or the terrorists in the US attacks were not_American_citizens and would not have the same rights that we do. So search them all you want.
Almost every thread you have had no real solution. Your answers to sum it up: If their brown, check em! White? Don't bother. If their carrying anything bigger than a purse, check for bombs. Suspect their a terrorist? Treat them like you would a dog- or worse.
You seem like an intelligent person. How about using that to suggest real solutions?

Sightless is clever, but he is a bit of a bigot, as well as being woefully misinformed about politics. Dont expect much.
Re: why cant.................................
eye-p, like i have said before, if you have the penultimate intelligence and solutions then fix the planet. i am far from a bigot. dont ever go there. a few of closest friends are spanish, asain, gay, indian. and you say i am woefully misinformed about politics b/c i disagree with some of what you say. you if anything are woefully misinformed. you can never look at things objectivly but only take sides on everything. you, my friend, are nothing more than a bill oreilly or mike moore. you spend more time attacking others personally around here rather than conversing and you only say things that encourage inciteful remarks. you throw out facts that can be found in any WSJ or NYT and are so general in scope you can never show a narrow view on a single topic.
look at me and toasty, i find it engaging when i get to have a talk wiht him because at least he speaks openly without attacking others.
you're a waste of time.
