Has anyone caught Fox News' new "Supreme Court Analyst" C. Boyden Gray? Un-fucking-believable that they would hire someone who heads an organization dedicated to getting Bush's nominees confirmed as their "analyst" on that very topic. Maybe they can hire Scott McLellan as their "White House Analyst" or Tom Delay as their "Congressional Analyst." Unbelievable, those people have absolutely no shame.

This just in: The dinosaurs have died.
They haven't done much to hide their bias for quite some time now.

they are allowed to be biased when you have john stewart, al franken and the entire MSNBC org being blatently liberal/;.

MSNBC is liberal???!?!?!?!? Are you insane?
Joe Scarborough was a Republican senator. His most frequent guest is Pat Buchannen.
Tucker Carlson now has a show just after that.
How about Hardball? When was the last time you heard anything negative about Republicans on this show?
How about Monika Crowley, who worked for Nixon?
How about when MSNBC fired Phil Donahue for being anti-war, even when his show had the highest ratings of any show on the network.
Keith Olberman, isnt liberal- he just isnt a cheerleader for Bush.
There is a big difference between not cheerleading, and being liberal. With the Right wing fully in charge of the major media, anyone who isnt cheerleading look- and is cast as- liberal.
Also, Jon Stewart is on A COMEDY SHOW! Not a news organization!
Al Franken- He is a radio show host. Oh, and he has a Sundance channel show. Wow, really a dominating presence...
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
So don't watch TV news, there is a reason its called "programming."
This has to be the longest standing debate issue on [MN]... of which nobody wants to get into. TURN IT OFF, TV news is bad for the health.

They have kept up the "fair and balanced" canard which is freaking ridiculous. I think you'd be surprised how many conservatives would dispute the fact that Fox News is blatantly biased towards conservatives. I have spoken with many that think that Fox News is telling the truth, while all of the other outlets who are labeled as MSM this week are lying.
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias

I see, so all of these years that we have heard conservatives complain up and down about how biased the media is and how unfair it is was not about the media being biased in general, but was about the media NOT being biased in their favor.

I don't get my news from TV. The internet is a far better medium and allows me to get all of the different biased views to put together what I think the truth is.
I watch TV news for entertainment, which, after all, is what it is all about these days.
^^^ What he said.
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
I wouldn't say Fox News is blatantly biased. They recently hired Gen. Wesley Clark as a military analyst and we know he's a Democrat. Many of the cable news channels have both liberal and conservative analysts to appear balanced.
I would agree that Fox News leans conserative like CNN and MSNBC lean liberal. Now, most talk radio is something that you can say is blatantly conservative.
Why be so angry too? Nearly all of the news sources including what's on the internet are biased somehow. So, to point at one news source while they're all biased isn't being rational. As for the internet, I'd be wary of relevance in news reporting. Lots of crap out there to mislead and aren't as scurtinized as closely as the big media outlets.
So, if Fox offends you, turn the channel to CNN, MSNBC, and read the New York Times Op-Ed page. And don't listen to talk radio either. Let the conservatives get the news they want to hear.
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
im not for either side. i just said that they are allowed to do whatever they feel like. they could put up a ""liberals are evil" logo in the corner of the screen while they show CGI of hippies eating freshly aborted babies if they felt like it. they arent regulated other than language. think about the fact that farenheight" came out just in time for an election. no one tried to make that a balanced movie. they are in the business of selling Airtime, not informing you. CSPAN is the only channel that goes into every show being fair.
I love C-SPAN. :Anal:

Hiring Wesley Clark makes sense because of his background...would you have felt the same way if CNN had hired Clark as an analyst for the primary contest when he was running for president? It's just about the same thing when Fox News hires C. Boyden Gray as a Supreme Court analyst...he's involved in the fight. In fact, he is one of what is called the "Four Horsemen" and has a specific function in the upcoming confirmation battle. What do you think the conservatives would say if CNN or MSNBC hired Ralph Neas (head of People for the American Way) or Nan Aron (head of Alliance for Justice) or Kate Michelman (head of NARAL) as their Supreme Court analyst. We would have breathless screed from Malkin and Coulter from here to eternity.
Hiring Gray as their Supreme Court analyst is blatant bias.
I would agree that Fox News leans conserative like CNN and MSNBC lean liberal. Now, most talk radio is something that you can say is blatantly conservative.
Leans conservative is a bit of an understatement. They ARE conservative.
Why be so angry too?
Why so angry...because I am sick of hearing conservatives whine endlessly about how biased all of the media outlets are against them, while having outlets like Fox in their back pocket and treating them like they are not biased in the least. It's hypocrisy and pisses me off.
So, to point at one news source while they're all biased isn't being rational.
Fox stands apart because they perpetually push the canard of "fair and balanced," "we report, you decide." I would have no problem if they were up-front about their bias. It's the fact that they explicitly lie about their positioning that brings them front and center in my mind. Folks like Rush and Hannity on talk radio don't bother me because they are up-front about their bias and don't lie about being balanced.
As for the internet, I'd be wary of relevance in news reporting. Lots of crap out there to mislead and aren't as scurtinized as closely as the big media outlets.
Agreed, which is why I think it's important to read stories carefully, think about them and watch how they play out. There's plenty of bias to go around.
So, if Fox offends you, turn the channel to CNN, MSNBC, and read the New York Times Op-Ed page.
I don't watch Fox very often...I generally tune in when something like O'Connor retiring happens because I want to see what the republican talking points are going to be. To be honest, CNN and MSNBC are boring and I can't watch them.
And don't listen to talk radio either. Let the conservatives get the news they want to hear.
I enjoy talk radio as well...it's a great way to keep up with what lines of argument I'll be hearing on Fox. And do you actually think that talk radio has anything to do with the news????? It's frightening that people actually use it as their news source...it explains all of the nutjobs posting on hannity.com.

I wouldn't have a problem with any of that either...if they dropped the fair and balanced canard. The diff between Fox and Farenheight was that Michael Moore, for all of his obese disgustingness, was up-front about what he meant for that film to do (i.e. beat Bush).
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
I see the point of your argument Pacific in that the recently hired Fox analyst is too involved in the upcoming process.
However, I recall Wesley Clark being hired as an analyst at CNN during the 2004 election. Another example is John Kerry having an article in the op-ed section of the New York Times on the morning President Bush was going to address the country about Iraq last Tuesday. Why not attack those outlets too if you're going to go after Fox?
My point is that all these media sources are biased left or right, so why be surprised or expect Fox to broadcast their bias?
C-SPAN!@!~@!! :Anal:

How's about everyday they run that fair and balanced BS. And if you ever doubt that there are people out there who buy it and argue that Fox is telling the truth, while all other media outlets are biased to the left, check out the message board on hannity.com. When I used to hang out over there, the posters would fight tooth and nail to argue that Fox was not biased and was telling the truth.

Finding lib bias in the NYT is about as easy as shooting fish in a barrel...I have no less of a problem with it in the NYT. Didn't know about CNN hiring Clark as an analyst...just as bad as Fox hiring Gray.

Wrong dude...as much time as the right spendsd carping about liberal bias, they should have the spotlight turned back on them when appropriate. Bias isn't the one-way street most conservatives would have you believe.

Them...me...where's the connection???
For me, Fox's biggest problem is that they push opinion-based programming as news. Most news sources draw a distinction between opinion- and fact-based programming -- Fox comingles the two...

i was watching daily show for the first time in like 2 years last eve and i remember why i stopped watching. it is exactly what pacific is whining about, just the mirror image though. does john stewart think he can get GW out, cuz he seems like he wakes up crying everyday realizing that he failed his mission to get kerry into office.

The big difference is that Stewart is on a comedy channel. Granted there are many people who actually use the Daily Show to get their news, which is fucked, but that's a whole 'nother discussion. I would hope that Stewart would apply just as sharp commentary to a dem admin as he does to the Bush admin.

Also, although Stewart obviously leans left personally, he views his job description (when it comes to political humor, anyway) as "pointing out the absurdity in politics." Right now, republicans control the presidency, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court. What else does he have to poke fun at? Of course it is going to appear that he's bashing the right...
During the election season, Stewart didn't shy away from passing out barbs to Kerry when they were deserved as well.
Perhaps most importantly, however, Stewart is a comedian, not a political commentator.

Well, he can't quite do it these days considering there is a republican administration.
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
You missed my point, in my eyes he would not be going after a Democratic adminstration as hard. My opinion.
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
Speaking of Fox News, I had occasion to watch Fox News yesterday morning during the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in London. The part I watched (I was flipping through all the major news channels) was actually more of a cheerleading session for Bush, as verification of why we were doing the right thing in Iraq, than reporting what was going on in London -- and this was from the anchors.
And we wonder why so many people that watch Fox News still think there is a 9-11/Iraq connection...
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
I've also read where Brit Hume's first reaction to the attacks was that it would be a good time to buy stocks. Glad to see he's tuned in to the misery that these latest attacks caused.

If he didn't he likely wouldn't have a show; how would he entertain otherwise?
Re: More proof of Fox News' Blatant Conservative Bias
True, and I see what you're saying. The key part there is "as hard."
