Tasteless humor imo.
WIDEFIELD, Colo. ? High school yearbooks were recalled so that administrators could black out a joke caption under one student's picture: "most likely to assassinate President Bush."

Mesa Ridge High School officials recalled about 100 yearbooks earlier this month and had staffers use markers to obscure the words in them and in the still-undistributed copies. The Secret Service even launched an investigation.

"They kind of ruined our yearbook," said Christina Tredway, who just graduated from the school just south of Colorado Springs. Most students thought the blacking-out was a bad idea since the caption obviously was a joke, she said. Widefield School District officials called the caption a prank that wasn't caught before the yearbooks were printed, and district spokesman James Drew said future yearbooks will be triple-checked before printing.

Lon Garner, special agent in charge of the Secret Service's Denver District, said the agency would look into the incident because all threats against the president must be investigated.

"That's our mission," he said. "That's what we do."

There were several other joke captions in the book, including "most likely to forget his gown at graduation." Names of those involved were not released.
creepy.
I'm not a Bush supporter and never have been, but I don't think that what the school did was 'big-brother-ish'. We all grow up knowing that if you make a claim, joke, statement, etc about killing the president, that you will be investigated and possibly arrested. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. These things, especially in this day and age, have to be researched. It was just tasteless imo and should've been caught prior to the publishing but it wasn't and the school reacted. I don't think it was an unappropriate reaction.

If the school had pulled it because it said "Most Likely to Vote Democrate" or "Most Likely to Breed Llamas" - then yes, that is Big Brother in action. But threatining to assassinate anyone, let alone the president, does not belong in a yearbook - joke or not.

Re: School Recalls Yearbooks With Bush Threat

here is a hint
dont even remotly threaten the worlds most important person.

i mean, you can hate the guy, but you are a moron if you insinuate someone wants to kill the pres. like walking in front of a cop and hitting a bong.

Re: School Recalls Yearbooks With Bush Threat

very unoriginal prank, whatever happened to letting a greased potbellied pig run through the halls, or leaving dead fish guts in the air conditioning ducts

If it was a problem or potentially could be a problem. Why in the hell did they even print them in the first place.

I agree. It's like shouting "Bomb!" in an airport- you just don't do it.
