If Bin Laden were caught or killed by U.S. forces, should the U.S. say anything?

The reason this question is so perplexing to me is that if he is caught or killed and everyong finds out he becomes a martyr, gets what he wants and send drove of ignorant moronic zealots to their death in an attempt to gain their own martyrdom.

Might it be better to just off the piece of shit and bury his ass in the dessert a la mafia style regardless of whether we would love to see him a weak broken down coward like Saddam or a lifeless pile of mangle tissue like Saddams sons?

Cut off the head and the body dies. OBL definitely seems to be the man over there, as proven but his track record. I think the rest of them are too fragmented to really pull together enough to be a real threat to anyone other than themselves.

that's a good point but I'm not so sure. I think he is an inspirational leader not a military leader. He doesn't tell people what to do, he just gets them pumped about doing anything.

Interesting point, but what about this - as long as Bin laden is alive then it inspires others that they could do the same or even better than 9/11. Bin laden got away with 9/11 and attacked the United States which makes him a hero right there for some.

drop him off at the church street firehouse in lower manhatten who lost thier entire company less ONE. they would keep him alive just to make it worse. televise it to send a message.

Honestly, it's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation with Bin Laden and how his followers will react.

If he's killed (and it's publicized), he's a martyr.

If he's captured, he's a political prisoner.

If he's still out there (or killed/captured without the public knowing), he's a symbol of the resistance.

The best thing to do in this regard is just to keep him on the run so he is no more than an inspirational/spiritual leader to the fanatics (and not a tactical leader which he has proven adept at). But last I've heard his trail is lost, so who the hell knows what he's doing.

that pretty much sums it up. Zarqawi is probably doing much more actual damage these days than Bin Laden. 3 years from now, it will be another.

I would make him suffer first before killing him. That is what he wants. He wants the us to get him and killing then he looks like a saint to the arab people. But even if they did kill him they should not tell everyone about.

Possibly, but looking at OBL's resume he is quite unique: he's from a weathly oil family and was trained by the US to fight Afghanistan.

I don't doubt there are millions of fanatics in the Mid East who hate the US, but I question how many of them have the resources, education and training to do anything all that effective.

I'm more than willing to take my chances on getting rid of OBL.

How did you Americans feel when you saw your soldiers' bodies dragged through the streets in Mogadishu? Bet you didn't feel really cool about that. Now multiply that feeling with a few hundred times, and maybe then you would get close to how many Muslims or Afghani or Iraqi or Iranians or wherever you guys have been to stir it up must have felt and are still feeling.

Not that I approve of OBL's actions, not at all. But some still forget to look at their own mistakes before pointing out another one's. He's a piece of shit. So were the geniuses behind the operations in Afghanistan.

take the power out of osama's hands. shoot him the back of the head on tv where he falls in a hole and a couple of people kick dirt on him and then light a nuclear bomb of in Iraq close to the Iran border) call it testing in different heat environments to fool the people and let them know what will happen if they all decide to be martyrs.. they will all be toasty.. unfortuanatly the world works on power..
