05 - Andy Cato - Cosmic Force [Pack Up And Dance]

That sample was taken from the old Stephen Duffy track "Kiss Me" from back in the 80's. I had to take a double take on the tracklist because when I heard it I was hoping it was a remake!

I unfairly berated this before, but now it has grown on me immeasurably...there are some real winning trax in this bunch. Underworld's (while Sasha did play it first on that Emix ;)) "Crocodile," Jody's own "Starstrings" and those Andy Cato remixes/tracks.

This really grew on me after the initial comment above. Even though Sasha already featured the new Underworld on that recent Emix, the improved sound quality is a nice plus and it's the best Underworld track in years (perhaps in this millennium thus far). The new Jody single has a most infectious vocal and that Andy Cato track, "Cosmic Force," has got some quality stabbing going on! Big improvement over the last solo single and most of the Groove Armada album for that matter. ;)

The first half of this mix is great. Loving Underworld 'Crocodile'. Definitely the best Underworld track in a long time. Jody Wisternoff 'Starstrings' is very catchy, though I imagine some will find it a bit poppy for their tastes. The Andy Cato tunes are really blinding as well.

The second half I didn't like much at all, although the Kris Menace remix at the end is sort of oddly appealing.

I'm sick of Kris Menace, lol. Could've done without that track. I'm liking much of the 2nd half otherwise. That bassline on Dilemn's "Check My Beat" is too filthy and funky for words! Bart Van Wissen - "Concentrate" is a surprising old skool homage that starts off deceptively in a electrohouse vein. Hard Fi - "Suburban Knights" ( Angello & Ingrosso Remix) is something that would probably make more sense on drugs, lol...still a lot of fun. The drumline percussion brings back high school memories. ;) Le Noir - "Eleny" is pleasant strings-based dance music with a classic analog bassline before that damn retroelectrohouse rehash from Kris Menace hits. :p

Sorry, gave the second half another listen and it's just not my style. The bassline on 'Check My Beat' is certainly "filthy," although I'm less inclined to call it "funky." "Noisy" is more like it. ;)
