I'm assuming this is ok to post : the file looks to have been released by Nick and has been up on Hybridised for years.

The mix is more down-tempo and features several tracks that didn't make the final cut (maybe too ambient for GU) and the ones that did are on CD1 but in a far different running order.

If you like this (also check out the RA Review if you need more convincing) I recommend you support the artist/producers and buy the original CDs/mixes ;)

[RA News]

As Global Underground has become, over the years, due to their epic compilations based on the live sets their DJs perform at a selected event in a selected country, one of the most respected names in the electronic music industry. Their previous release, Lavelle's GU:023, raised the bar for the series, dragging away the standard progressive angle that was previously set.

So now we are in for a treat, with Nick Warren back on the GU duties (as his last GU was 018 in Amsterdam), performing an epic set at Reykjavik in Iceland. The event was held at the end of the northern hemisphere's summer and is set to hit the shelves world wide shortly after Xmas. To be exact, the release dates are as follows: January 27 in the UK and February 3 & 4 in the rest of the world and USA respectively.

The album features tracks by Jimmy Van M, Boards of Canada, Planet Funk, Global Communication, Momu (who's Mind Rewind remix is out on Sabotage in January), Starkid, Avatar and some new exclusive and unreleased Way Out West material.

Nick Warren is spending the next few months (as per usual) touring the globe, and you can catch him at the following...

Nick Warren's Upcoming Tour Dates:

13 Dec, Fri - London, UK - Turnmills. 14 Dec, Sat - Dublin, Rep. Ireland - The Redbox. 20 Dec, Fri - Bucharest, Romania - Palace Hall. 21 Dec, Sat - Moscow, Russia - Club XII. 26 Dec, Thu - Portrush, N. Ireland - Kellys. 18 Jan, Sat - Budapest - Pacha Bar & Vigado Ballroom. 24 Jan, Fri - Copenhagen, Denmark - Vega. 25 Jan, Sat - Oslo, Norway - Parkteateret.

[RA Review 4.5 out of 5]

There is no doubt that with their recent string of releases, the Global Underground crew is branching out as the winds of dance music change direction.

From the 'Afterhours' downtempo/experimental double set, to James Lavelle's recent Barcelona outing, there is no doubt that the GU Boys are venturing further into progressive territories - minus the "house".

Nick Warren continues this thread with his latest mix, coming straight out of Reykjavik, Iceland. In what has been said to be the man's final compilation, Warren goes out with a bang - spanning genres from trip hop and experimental to break beat and melodic trance.

Disk one is the Warren you would expect to see if one spent a late evening downing a pint at his flat. Similar to the "Back to Mine" compilation Warren did a few years back, the mix is largely downtempo - featuring stellar tracks by the likes of Avatar, Boards of Canada, and Planet Funk.

The similarites to his "Back to Mine" outing differ toward the end of disc one, when things pick up with the excellent Grayarea track "Yewminyst" - featuring solid breaks, nu skool synths, over a stuttering female vocal, the tune showcases the best sides of break beat, with a progressive attitude.

Disk two is the Nick Warren GU fans have come to know and love. The mix is a solid 4/4 structure, taking off where Warren left off with the Amsterdam compilation. While many DJ's tend to go dark (and oftentimes boring), Warren tends to keep things melodic. Starkid's "Crayons" is an excellent example - it features the synthy melodies Warren showcased on his last GU mix, yet takes them up to the current moment and beyond. The track evokes the best elements of Cosmo's "Take Me With you", and evolves them into a top rate tune. The anthemic "Rise" by Vector (featuring the vocals of Alan Johnson) is destined to be a dance floor monster in 2003.

If this is to be Warren's last compilation - it will be a sad day for dance music. The man is always able to put together top notch mixes, while keeping things interesting and exciting.

Nick Warren takes a blank landscape, paints it with touches of atmospheric mastery, breakbeat magnificence, and experimental brilliance - thus creating a masterpiece.

Re: Nick Warren : Global Underground 024 Unreleased Reykjavik Disc

One of the best compiled of GU. He is amazing, mixing ambient and down tempo tracks. very emotional and sentimental, "Back to mine" is a very good example of that. He Has an excellent style selecting tracks not so commons.

Re: Nick Warren : Global Underground 024 Unreleased Reykjavik Disc

Finally got around to listening to the unreleased mix tonight and I must say it's pure class. Laidback grooves seamlessly mixed. 5/5 in my book!

Next I'll have a go at the Electrolux live recording.

Thanks guys for providing these gems.
