Yeahhhhh boyeeeee. Xmen is about the only Marvel movie series I really have any interest in.

I knew I saw January Jones in the trailer, she is going to be Emma Frost. Jennifer Lawrence from Winters Bone is going to be Mystique, James MacAvoy as Dr. Xavier and also it has Kevin Bacon and Rose Byrne.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

X-Men 3 sucked, very ambivalent about this, especially when they rewrite the origins of the comics I grew up with, even though origin re-writes happen all the time in the comics.

(But this can't be worse than X-men 3 so I'll probably still catch it cos I'm a sucker)

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

^I'd agree with that statement. I didn't think Xmen 3 was amazing, but X2 I loved and it is probably my fav Marvel movie, so I'm hoping for this. I bet it will be at least pretty good since with a whole new cast will be something fresh. I'm just really sad they cancelled the Magneto movie :( Ian McKellen is the perfect person to play that character and I would have really liked to have seen a whole movie around him.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

This looks superb. Never saw the last couple on the big screen, but enjoyed them and kinda wished I had. Will probably try and catch this one in a cinema though.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

Mind you THOR was fuckin horrible. 3d or not...

Marvel, enough with the pointless releases.

On the subject matter of super-comic heroes portrayed on the big screen:

I think I'll pass this one. DC..fail.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

^Thor is out already?

I'm worn out on all of the comic movies, but I'll watch any of them if they look decent. I'm not looking too deep for a moving showing like The Thin Red Line or anything. I actually the Capn America flick looks entertaining for a first look, but really Xmen is the only comic book franchise I have any interest in.

Jim Lee rebooting Xmen when I was n 8th grade did it for me. X2 is the best Marvel movie put out sofar IMO, so I can't wait for more. I'm just disappointed the Magneto movie got squashed, because Ian McKellen is fantastic.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

I just got done watching Xmen on Justin Tv. It is on replay there.

I got to say I really liked the movie but I do have some problems with it. Overall the movie is for sure worth the watch. Good story line.. The beginning of how XMen started etc...

I do have some problem that they changed the characters around a bit. Apparently Professor X is now a Brit. Obviously Professor X was born in NYC and is American. I wonder why they did this to be honest? I don't like that part but the rest of the movie is very well done.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

Professor X == Patrick Stewart

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

ya I know but in the comics Charles Xavier was born in NYC and went to Harvard. The new Charles Xavier went to Oxford.. I don't know why they did that.

It is like when they tried to make Green Lantern a black guy... you can't change something that is already something.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

X-Men First Class is like an alternate origin hence the slightly different story and characters, they don't go with the timeline of the original X-Men.

The black Green Lantern is John Stewart, just another character in the Green Lantern series. They didn't actually turn a white character to a black character. Original Green Lantern is still Hal Jordan.

But they did turn Nick Fury black in some of the comics and now Nick Fury in the movies is Samuel L Jackson.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

I dug it for the most part - the first hour of the movie is absolutely solid, but the second half kind of starts to get a bit wonky.

Michael Fassbender should audition for James Bond if Daniel Craig steps down, he'd make an outstanding Bond given what he does with Magneto here. James MacAvoy seems to be forced to touch his forehead a lot and make like he's getting migranes, but does manage to capture a lot of the mannerisms and characteristics that Patrick Stewart brought to the Professor X character. And January Jones was fucking awful in this whenever she opened her mouth.

I was pretty impressed with how they were weaving history and the events of the Cuban Missle Crisis into the whole story - Matthew Vaughn did a great job here and even managed to evoke some reminders to why he's got a bright future ahead of him with how he pulled out some of his old tricks that he used in Layer Cake.

It's a decent summer superhero film. Not the best, but it certainly makes up for the shitty X3 sequel and how they ruined a lot of the characters.

Re: X-Men First Class (2011)

Enjoyed it quite a bit, yep.

As for the whole Oxford/Harvard thing, imo it made no difference at all  The only thing that irked me was that he seemed to become a professor in the US sense of the word at a UK institution, hmm. And McAvoy was okay but, of course, nothing compared to the commanding stage presence of Stewart and McKellen.

Apart from that, all good fun.
