I just started watching this show. Shocking to see what kids are eating in that particular elementary school he visited & probably in others throughout the country. That, combined with the virtual elimination of physical education classes, it's no wonder that you see kids getting fatter at a younger age.

Granted, the school lunches weren't the tastiest meals when I was in grade school but at least it was real food (except mystery meat day:what) with real veggies, etc.

Re: Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

Got a lot of respect for the guy. He is clearly an excellent businessman, but has a drive and passion that means he's done (arguably ;)) a lot of good out of it. I think when he did the same thing in the UK he ended up getting the government to dedicate a lot of money to school dinners, can't be a bad thing!

Goes in my trinity of TV chefs at least: Delia (basics); Jamie (good food); Nigella (indulgence).

I've got a lot of time for Jamie Oliver .. even though his cockney cheeky chappy persona gets riduculed a bit over here. Jamie clearly knowshis food, plus he has good intentions.

I'd say that part of British culture/families are very poor in terms of nutritional food ... and we are actually way ahead of the US 'Supersize Me' culture.

In Jamie's Uk series Italy looked to be pretty far forward in terms of produce and school food welfare .. time to get Tony Soprano on board !

Agree^

As much as he comes across as a bit of a nob sometimes, his contribution to the changes in school meals in this country make him worthy of a :RightOn: in my book.

Cheeky chappie cockney he may be but when you consider one guy off the telly has done more to improve the food given to our children in school than entire gov'ts have it makes you wonder what the fuck is going on.
