Re: Bollywood Recommendations

Wow interesting that you're a Bollywood fan :) I personally don't watch many Hindi movies nowadays, but I was in India last week and everyone there is raving about 3 Idiots and My Name is Khan......Dil Chahta Hai is a must watch as well:

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

Thanks funky, I'll put those down on my list. Wouldn't call myself a bollywood fan, I just enjoy watching foreign flicks and stuff that's not off the beaten path sometimes :)

Hollywood had become quite predictable.

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

Wow never anticipated to catch this thread in here but I'll be more than happy to chime in. My wife is a Bollywood fiend and she watches everything she can get her hands on. But personally for me, unless a bollywood movie is VERY VERY VERY good, I won't watch it.

My favorites (in no particular order starting from the second movie) are as below (fyi I prefer gang/gangster movies so if you're into those, defo catch these)

 1. Apharan - a movie, supposedly based on true events about politics and kidnappings in a north Indian state. This is also the ONLY Hindi DVD I ventured out to buy because it was just that good, I had to own it.

 2. Om Kara - based on Othello and a very very well made movie

 3. Company (Gang related)

 4. Munnabhai MBBS + Lage Raho Munnabhai (Part 1 and 2 / Comedy)

 5. Rock On (Acted and Directed by the same dude who made Dil Chahta Hai. Won numerous awards even for soundtrack).

 6. Vaastav (Gang related, show's how innocent people are turned into gangsters due to circumstances beyond their control and how things turn out in the end)

 7. Page 3 (Gripping movie about the ugly side of Bollywood)

 8. Ghajini (Man with severe memory loss trying to track down a killer)

 9. Bachna Ae Haseeno (Not really into romantic comedies but the soudntrack on this one is awesome)

 10. Sehar (gang related - this should be number 3 or 4)

 11. 3 Idiots (comedy)

I don't remember too many names but I will post more as I remember them.

Apparently a few new ones which I haven't seen yet are doing pretty good.

 1. Rann

 2. My name is Khan

Your better off looking elsewhere then. Alot of bollywood films just rip off hollywood ones.
Sholay.
old school and unbelievably well made for its time (but there are comparatively better ones today). yet, this one probably still holds the record for the highest grossing bollywood movie of all time.

Sholay FTW horrible remake of any classic western, but great entertainment

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

I doubt Sholay was a remake of a Western. The storyline is very original. Gabbar Singh (the villain) is actually how notorious dacoits in north india dress up and raid trains passing desolate areas on horseback.

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

Kamal have you heard of Phoonk?

A guy at work was talking about the sequel to this and how the director is saying it is going to be super scary.

There is a link to the trailer in the comments of that post also.

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

Phoonk = blow air from your mouth.

I don't remember if I've seen the first part but there have been very few Hindi horrors that have really left an impression. will need to check it out.

Re: Bollywood Recommendations

There are a few, RAAT (Night) was a great flick for its time and I saw it twice in the theater (though it'd seem cheesy as shit if I saw it now).
