Apparently this has been getting a lot of internet hype lately. Looks like another handheld cam scare flick which usually always are just standard fare. Looks good but really there are no scary movies made imo anymore. Looks good for a few jumps but other than that I dont know.

I remember vividly my (ex) girlfriend Jenny was convinced the Blair Witch Project was real  some people really are gullible huh? That being said, I think girls love these handheld cam scare type flicks for whatever reason, thanks for the heads up, looks like a good date-night movie.

It's legend mixed in with hollywood. The town of Blair does exist and woods around the town are supposedly haunted though not by a witch iirc. That is probably what made the movie so believable and presumably true for a lot of folks.

That being said, I can't wait to watch Paranormal activity. The only other horror I remember in which they didn't really push the trailer as much as they pushed the night-cam reactions of theater crowds was "Ring" and that was one well made horror.

Have my hopes up really high for this one.

Re: Paranormal Activity

Blair Witch got it's mystique and near urban legend status because of the groundbreaking online viral marketing campaign that was the first of its kind. My brother was at Sundance the year it came out, and the directors did such a successful job with their marketing campaign, they had pretty much everyone convinced it was real or at least a really convincing hoax up until the actors showed up at the press conference. They didn't let on it was a fake missing person's documentary until the very last moment. It was the first of its kind, and will probably be imitated for a very long time to come.

But Paranormal Activity isn't quite in the same category as Blair Witch - it's a lot more hype than cultural phenomenon. It has some genuinely creepy moments, but it's very slow pace and the fact that the hype is starting to eclipse the film itself, people are bound to be disappointed when the ad campaigns are claiming to be the scariest film of its kind.

Re: Paranormal Activity

Whats amazing is the movie was made on a ~15k budget and some people are calling it the scariest movie they've seen... so I guess its worth a watch

Re: Paranormal Activity

Caught this last night, wasn't as shattering as I'd expected but it definitely has a few freaky moments of its own and totally ends as unexpected.

And like the Blair Witch Project, they've tried to make it appear as though its a true story.

Re: Paranormal Activity

average like i thought i guess. will wait for the dvd....just holding out for A Serious Man to be decent, going to check it this Sun.

also i guess i can understand how most of america thought something like blair witch would actually be a true story. people in groups are total fucking idiots, so i wouldnt put this past america. nothing whatsoever in the vein of blair witch would ever be true and show up at my local kerasotes theater and be put on air. why does anyone even think this would remotely happen?

(note im not ripping on you kamal, i will watch this flick sometime as im sure its entertaining, just the general stupidity of people in the usa which seems to piss me off lately)

Re: Paranormal Activity

none taken, but I will admit when I first saw Blair Witch, I didn't think it was a true story until one of the so-called "documentary's" aired and they interviewed police officers and members of the dig who unearthed the tape, it had me going for a bit.

Re: Paranormal Activity

Thought this would be better in the cinema than at home but after watching it last night im sure it would be better at home tbh. Thought it was pretty disapointing after all the hype aswell.

Re: Paranormal Activity

Just watched this. Quite enjoyed it and i'm not a big horror fan because i scare quite easy lol!! Got some severe shivers/goosebumps in places. Never experienced that watching a horror before.

Was this a true story or what??
