Re: Lost Season 5

I got a question. When Locke left the island to gather up the people that left the island why did he go see Walt???I thought he & his father were already off the island?? They werent considered part of the Oceanic 6.Also whose paying for the education Walt is geeting at the private school didnt Michael die in the boat explosion??

actually thats more than 1 question

Re: Lost Season 5

If Gin who was on the boat is alive them its possible Micheal could also be alive even if he was killed on the boat he could of washed up on the island and be alive again. Walt's mother was quite wealthy when see died so maybe his education was covered by her life insurance. Micheal and Walt weren't part of the Oceanic 6 because they got back to the main land by making the deal with Ben at the end of series 2. I'm guessing when they returned to the USA they either say that they weren't on the plane or they told no one they where back.

I think Walt has a big part to play in this. If not this series then def next.

I agree. After making such a big deal about how "special" he was, having him appear on the island, etc., he has to have a bigger role in this. We'll see him again, for sure.

Re: Lost Season 5

Mrs. Hawking said they had to recreate the original crash as close as possible. Walt was on the plane. I think it is certain he needs to make it back. Maybe Sun will have to bring him back, that would be the journey head of her.

Wrapping up a series of good episodes, but episodes that felt like "set-up" episodes. Have a feeling that next week's is going to be gangbusters.

Re: Lost Season 5

OK, check this out: remember at the end of the episode, where Ben awakens to see Locke, and Locke says, "Welcome back to the land of the living?" Well, someone did some digging and found that there is a mythical place in Celtic culture known as "The Land of the Living" that is a sort of Otherworld. "Land of the Living" is hardly a unique phrase, so it could be nothing, but check out the qualities of this mythical place:

-It is located on an island that is always moving -Its inhabitants do not age or get sick -time behaves differently there relative to the rest of the world -home to the Parthelonians, who are descendants of the God of the Underworld -- they had godlike abilities, and were said to live in an alternate existence that was in the same dimension as, but invisible to, humans -It is also known as the Land of the Happy Dead, and it is a place that people return to after they die -- and because it was eternal, people would be buried in really nice shoes, since they were going to be there for a while

One thing that fits, but doesn't entirely fit, was the idea that you could be reborn from the island back into the mortal world, but you'd forget everything that happened to you in the Land of the Living. Half-point on that one.

Some pretty cool parallels there, IMO.

Tell me about it.. I missed quite a few episodes in Season 4.... now I think I'll need to re-watch the entire 4 before I can begin to enjoy 5.

OK, check this out: first, there are some screencaps of the hieroglyphics from the temple here, as well as a closeup up of the stuff we probably care most about here. That figure looks an awful lot like Anubis, who also bears a striking resemblance to the figure in the four-toed statue.

Anubis is served by Ammit, a creature that devours the souls of those judged unworthy by Anubis. Although feared and considered a demon by some, Ammit is ultimately either good (for her role in destroying evil) or neutral, as she has no independent will. When Locke was nearly dragged underground by the monster way back when he referred to it as "beautiful" -- could this be a situation where Smokey is a creatue analagous to Ammit, and Locke is the only one that can see it as it really is, as a force of good?

The Wikipedia description of Ammit isn't exactly on all fours, particularly from a physical standpoint, but it does seem similar in terms of its role. Maybe Smokey is like Annubis and Ammit rolled into one -- both the judge, and executioner?

Well, if you look close enough (and used pause :) ), you can see Jack in front of a chalkboard, with a lot of stuff about Egyiptians in the preview for the next episode. So, the Egyiptian connection is definitely right.

Two weeks to go till the next fix of Lost... :(

Dunno, it worked for me just he opposite. There was this craze, with everybody saying how Lost was the greatest show ever at the time of S1. I did not even bother checking it out, I did not like the concept of "series". When I saw a couple of episodes over the next couple of years, pretty much by accident, it started to look even more stupid. I mean there was this plane that went down in the pacific and "all of the sudden" there was this sixties technology and the Others and shooting each other and some crazy smoke monster thing. Then I saw S4E1, which I thought was good. I saw the next episode next week. I am hooked ever since. :)

Re: Lost Season 5

Season 1 is still the best for me... I remember the dialogue between Jin and Sun when they spoken only in Korean... that was a pleasant surprise for me... not that I speak Korean... but it was very unique for prime time tv.

Re: Lost Season 5

I think S3 was the weakest season, they've since tighted up a lot and it's great.

Re: Lost Season 5

I've got a great idea for a new character. How about they have a character who hasn't got Daddy issues. Kate, Sayer, Jack, Ben, Hurley, Locke, Jin, Sun and now Miles.

lol! In all seriousness, though, the "daddy issues" thing has obviously been a prominent theme in a none-too-subtle way. I have the sense that this is going to end up being a bigger deal in the way this whole thing gets resolved, because otherwise it would just be lazy writing for so many characters to basically have the same type of demons bugging them, and the rest of the show is written too well for that to be the explanation...

Maybe they all share the same grand-grand-grand-...-grandfather, who used to lie in the shadow of the statue.

Re: Lost Season 5

I'll tell you what, the show never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I'm starting to understand things, they completely rip the rug out from under me.

...and I love these little things they throw in to highlight the fact that there is actually some method to the madness, that they aren't just making it up as they go. That New Kids on the Block lunchbox that Kate stole, and that Jacob bought for her? that's the same lunchbox she used as a time capsule and buried as a kid back in season 1. Brilliant.

#1223013Post 77 of 87

Re: Lost Season 5

I've been thinking more about this. One thing that kinda bums me out is that I guess this means that when we saw Locke die, we actually saw Locke die -- there's a guy walking around that looks a lot like him, but the character that we have known for the better part of 5 seasons is no more. He kinda deserves a better send off than that, IMO.

Of course, if what Juliet did worked, we might get an opportunity to see a lot of dead characters again. Can't imagine how that might work, tho. Very confused.

My wife has a great theory, I think, which is that they're all wrapped up in a Groundhog Day sort of time loop where things continue to repeat, only over a period of centuries, not individual days. As a matter of fact, the very first image of the season was of one of those old school flip clocks (set to 8:15) like the one Bill Murray woke up to every day in GD. We commented at the time that it had a GD feel to it, and now we're starting to think that it was an intentional shout-out to the movie.

Re: Lost Season 5

I'm so pissed that they potentially killed off one of my favorite characters and left us on another cliffhanger ending. Now we have to wait until 2010 to find out what happened!

Re: Lost Season 5

Distasteful analogies to AF 447, anyone? I mean the situation was just creepy for a while. A plane just disappeared. Ok, not over the Pacific, but it was just as mysterious, at least until the plane parts and bodies started turning up. However, that could be the work of a real-life Charles Whidmore, could not it?

4 of my fellow countrymen had lost their lives in the crash, including two children. My heart goes out to all of the victims.
