One word......BRILLIANT. Jack the Ripper + Love Story entwined...... starring Johhny Depp and Heather Graham. Cant believe how little this movie is known but how incredibly good it is.

8.5/10 (Maybe a 8.75)

Re: From Hell

^ It is a nice movie indeed; however I didn't like how they portrayed the image of the freemasons. That was totally twisted and misplaced (imo)

Re: From Hell

Well they were depicted as the "queen's instrument" in her decision to solve the pregnancy situation of the prostitute, wich newborn would have been heir to the thrown.

I dont think thats what it was, that sect seemed like they had nothing to do being the "queen's instrument". the old doctor, who was a die hard freemason, felt the responsibility to take the cleansing into his own hands. Thats why he was tried by the freemason jury and turned into a vegetable.

Re: From Hell

The trial was a theater: it had been arranged in order to dispose of the "weapon/evidence" (the doctor in this case).

They/she used the doctor for Her end, and they disposed of him afterwards in a subtle way, a masonic court!

Yep, someone had to take the blame, for a blue blood's mistake (or will), after all.

Donno, I didnt digest the way they "fomulated" the role of the masons in this....

Re: From Hell

I can understand her using the "masons" to get rid of the child / wife but why the killing, afaik that old doc lost his loons

Re: From Hell

Yes, this is the aspect of the story I didn't like... link a murder to a mason, doesn't fit... I question a lot the authenticity of the facts the way they are shown...

I dont think this was made to be a true story. They never did find the real Jack the Ripper

Re: From Hell

this is actually based from the Alan Moore graphic novel of the same name. You know the baddass author of V for Vendetta and Watchmen, etc...
