Re: Ghostbusters III
That's right, the original Ghostbusters cast will appear in the third film, but they will be appearing as mentors and merely be passing the jobs over to a younger cast who will no doubt be taking the franchise forward with a younger audience. This is the worst news possible for Ghostbusters fans, of course if you've never seen the original cast then you'll probably not care, but for fans this is terrible. Harold Ramis is the one who confirms that the original cast will be back merely to mentor the new Ghostbusters team, and he does so in an email to The Chicago Tribune through Latino Review. In it he says:
“yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.”
Oh dear me, that sounds terrible. The original cast will be there to hand over to a cast of Superbad/Knocked Up who, as I've said before, will be spouting the usual slapstick, sexual and bodily function humour. Great. There goes the humour of Ghostbusters, and the fans finally get their third film which will effectively kill the series for them and restart it as a young and trendy series fitting in with the current spate of comedies coming out of Hollywood. The words from Harold Ramis confirm the story we'd heard before about the new writers and the possible involvement of Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow, and they don't even seem that solid on how much time we'll see of the original Ghostbusters on screen.
Doesn't sound too bad.
