I checked to see if this was already posted, but it hasn't, and I'm wondering why. This show has 16 Emmy nominations this year (unfairly eliminating The Wire, one of the top shows ever on television). It's already snagged a few golden globes.

AMC had the whole first season on on sunday, and it is a rediculously fun show for the guys (and girls).

here's one of my favourite scenes....

Re: Mad Men

I have been following this. It's good but I don't get the hype around it.

Re: Mad Men

I quite enjoyed it especially series 2. I can't wait for the next.

Re: Mad Men

It's one of the best and coolest shows on TV. Unbelievable production values, and it does a fantastic job of dispelling the notion that life was simpler back then.

Don Draper for prez.

Re: Mad Men

just watched the season premier last night.. either I'm seriously missing something or this is the biggest load of over hyped shite on TV

Re: Mad Men

The show's more about subtlety. It doesn't do what you'd expect from most TV shows, and it helps if you've been following since Season 1 (especially when the show starts to delve into Don Draper's past). It's a drama through and through, and probably one of the best written ones I've seen in a very long time.

This is a slow burner. It's not something you jump into midway because a lot of what you see now has been slowly built up or revealed through the whole series. I thought this was a good writeup about the show.

Here's a good quote to describe it:
The dialogue is almost invariably witty, but the silences, of which there are many, speak loudest: Mad Men is a series in which an episode’s most memorable scene can be a single shot of a woman at the end of her day, rubbing the sore shoulder where a bra strap has been digging in.
Re: Mad Men

yeah i figured it probably is something i needed to see from the beginning.. i was also at the tail end of a very long weekend, had just watched True Blood, lol.. so that is where I'm coming from lol

Re: Mad Men

watch from the first episode. any truly good tv show requires that to understand the arching plot lines.

and this is a fantastic show. the wire, on the other hand, fell off the map after season 1 for me (discussion for another thread though)

Re: Mad Men

I have watched a few of the episodes, and I was wondering if i am the only one who feels like smoking a cigarette the whole time I am watching it. (I don't really even smoke) Considering how many organizations are aginst smoking, its almost like the tobacco industry has their hands in this production. Like I said, I don't typically smoke but while watching this show I could have gone through a pack. I think there is somehthing subliminal going on there:lol:

i don't think its anything that sinister, though i'm sure the alcohol and tobacco companies don't mind! its just an accurate portrait of how life was then. the fucked up thing is watching the pregnant chicks smoke and drink...

Re: Mad Men

I just started watching by seeing the whole 2nd season recently and now season 3. It's a really good show. I like seeing how different things were back in the early 1960's in New York. Everyone smokes and drinks alcohol on the job. Women and minorities are treated much differently than now. I recommend watching a few episodes before giving up on this show.

Re: Mad Men

The last three episodes were such a great fall from grace for Don. Like I said before elsewhere, best show on TV.

Re: Mad Men

Yeah, such a great payoff for 3 seasons of the show, everything leading up to it like a well programmed Digweed set :p:lol:8)
