I saw 'The Manchurian Candidate' last night, and was very impressed.I thought it was a pretty original film, with a good twist at the end.I wasnt too sure about watching it,but im glad I did,was one of the best films i've seen in recent years.

Looks like Denzel is all over the place. Not that i have a problem with that. He OWNS! Last movie would be The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci. Highly recommended. :Bingo:

Are you aware that there was a film made in 1962 called "The Manchurian Candidate" and this film you probably saw was just a remake of that movie? And a poor remake at that. By that reason alone, this film is anything but original. Not only that but the story behind the original movie was based on real events, and so even the original wasn't original. Also, the new movie was made to sort of depict the original in a modern light, and the actual story was lost in the process. I don't mean to nitpick or anything, I just thought this movie was just another desperate hollywood remake that had no reason to be made. I just had to laugh that you thought the movie was "original."

Any way, I saw Team America World Police on Saturday. That movie is just frickin wrong, funny for sure but I'm not really sure what to think of it.

Does anybody know the reasons (exept for money), why denzel plays in such a stupid & chippy movie? the movie is simply needless.

I just watched Kubrick's "breakthrough" film, "The Killing", for the first time. A great film noir, excellent caper film. Groundbreaking in its use of a disjointed timeline, which has been imitated by many different films since. Not as cerebral or trippy as his later films, but a hint at the greatness that was to come.

^^^^ I'll have to check that out. I like his style.. plus I really like the disjointed time lines

story of a girl whose boyfriend commits suicide near christmas, then basically goes about her business. i wont reveal too much in case some of you want to see it. there's a dark tone in this movie. but i love these kinds of movies. i dont need Ten Jibillion dollars in special effects to like a film.

I was just thinking this the other day. I was watching a preview for some new movie.. the one with Angelina, and Gwenyth Paltrow.. the war one, cant think of the name. But I was wondering what the hell happened to movies with just good stories and good acting and that, and not all over loaded with crap to take our attention away from the fact that most movies today are over priced special effect shows.

Re: Last movie you saw,and what you thought of it?

I saw the hidden fortress by Akira Kurosawa... It was a nice film lacking a good plot... Watch it on your sunday afternoon....it's funny, it's an adventure movie, and it's very entertaining.... Kurosawa's last movie under his company, later he will have his own kurosawa company, "it felt like a revelation", he said, that's why this last one was a more entertaining movie then all of his predecessors, which contain much more cultural and historical value

Re: Last movie you saw,and what you thought of it?

I recently saw Bad Education directed by Pedro Almodovar and House of Flying Daggers by Zhang Yimou. Bad Education is in my top 5 of the year. Brilliant. House of Flying Daggers was good. Different from the directors last US release Hero. Also saw Motorcycle Diaries. Also very good and different. Gabriel Garcia Bernal :LoveYou:

Re: Last movie you saw,and what you thought of it?

I thought Manchurian Candidate was good too, except for this loud-ass jerk behind us that ruined the experience.
The best movie I've seen recently was HERO. Totally amazing, great visuals, basically eye-candy for 2 hours. Two Thumbs way up! And one up the ass of that guy behind me.

the last 2 movies i saw: "Collateral" - Nice and unusual. Not too predictible and Tom's acting is good. I give it 7/10.. "The Whole Ten Yards" - Booring sequel. Almost nothin funny. Maybe just in the begging when Bruce Willis is growing chickens.

#284044Post 19 of 25

Civic-I thought I had ehard the title 'Manchurian' before somewhere-i guess that ruins my original theory!Anyway I thought it was good, not layed out with loads of special effects, but just a good film with a good plot and decent acting.

BTW,i thought collateral was really good-tom cruise has starred in some pretty good films if you think about it (few good men-classic)

Re: Last movie you saw,and what you thought of it?

Last two movies I have seen (and regretted) were Spiderman 2 and Catwoman. God how poor those films play with clich?es... Catwoman was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. That?s what you get when you raise up with Marvel comics and think it could be cool to watch your childhood fantasies becoming reality when you are an adult....comics rule but Hollywood block busters movies about comics suck! :Bullshit:
