Daniel Craig is awesome. If the movie sux it will be the direction or story that lets it down.

Look forward to this, im hoping the stunts aren't too over the top. Thats prob why i enjoyed Casino Royal so much.

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)
'Quantum of Solace' is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background. Told in the style of W Somerset Maugham, the tale has Bond attending a boring dinner party at the Government House in Nassau with a group of socialites he can't stand.

Bond makes an offensive remark after dinner when the other guests have left in order to stimulate conversation. This solicits a careful reply from the elderly Governor of The Bahamas who tells 007 a sad tale about a relationship between former civil servant Philip Masters stationed in Bermuda and air hostess Rhoda Llewellyn. After meeting aboard a flight to London the two eventually married but after a time Rhoda became unhappy with her life as a housewife. She then began a long open affair with the eldest son of a rich Bermudan family. As a result Masters' work deteriorated and he suffered a nervous breakdown. After recovering he was given a break from Bermuda by the governor and sent on an assignment to Washington to negotiate fishing rights with the US. At the same time the governor's wife had a talk with Rhoda just as her affair ended. Masters returned a few months later and decided to end his marriage, although he and Rhoda continued to appear as a happy couple in public. Masters returned alone to the UK, leaving a penniless Rhoda stranded in Bermuda, an act of which he'd been incapable of merely months earlier. But Masters never recovered emotionally, his vital spark never relit. The governor goes on to tell Bond how after a time Rhoda married a rich Canadian and seems to be happy, telling Bond that his dull dinner companions whom he found so boring were Rhoda and her new husband.

While the story does not include action elements, as other Fleming tales do, it attempts to posit that Bond's adventures pale in comparison with real life drama. Bond reflects that the lives of the people he passes somewhat superficial judgments upon can in fact hide poignant episodes.

Rumours about the name had grown after fans noticed that film studio Sony had bought the domain name quantumofsolace.com.

But co-producer Michael Wilson said the name had only been decided "a few days ago", adding the story's start point would be "literally an hour after the last film left off".

Asked if Casino Royale star Eva Green would appear in Quantum of Solace, co-producer Barbara Broccoli said: "There are no flashbacks in the film, but she's certainly on Bond's mind."

Director Marc Forster is in charge of work on the movie, which is due for release on 7 November
--this being said, the title fits perfectly: quantuum (ie time) of solace (comfort in misfortunte, distress....the guy just lost Vespa!).....and being that it starts an hour after the last film ended....would seem fitting. but i'm wondering how he finds that solace? perhaps it's pursuing the bad guys? pumping and dumping hot babes?

But perhaps the conclusion is that Bond is alone, that he won't ever be able find solace in wake of what just happened to him, and the title is only ironic? That would take the quantuum as 'miniscule amounts' definition. just consider that the only persons he's close with is M, who treats him like a hunting dog, and Q.

I think those who are bashing the title could do with some information on why it's being used. My thoughts are that we're going to delve deeper into the Mind of Bond (like the new batman movies)...

and c'mon....is it all that worse than Octopussy and On Her Majesty's Secret Service? And it's at least more original than placing "Die" "Tommorow" "Never" "Day" in random sequences.

They could make Bond movies until I die and I'll watch every single one. I eat the shit up. It's simply entertaining.

However....I'm less of a fan of Daniel Craig than I was of Pierce Brosnan...

Good movie.

But not as good as casino royale!

It was the direction of the story that let it down (as in there wasnt really one)

I too liked the subtlety of casino royale, and there was great action in this movie but there was just something missing from the story that made it an amazing movie.

Still definitely worth watching though

Lack of story? Isn't there a villain? Bond gets over his broken heart, hardens the fuck up, and 'assisinates' the villain?

I don't think it would be Daniel Craig who's shit ... possibly the new director or a lousy job with editing the film, read they didn't have time for edit.

I think Daniel Craig makes a good Bond, maybe not as good as Roger Moore in View To A Kill, however, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it as well.

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

saw this movie last night

probably the worst bond movie I've ever seen, I think I've seen all of the bond films and even liked I liked Craign in Casino Royal but this one fucking sucks! I'll generously give this hour and a half of garbage 2/5 stars.

The plot and the way they go about explaining it is fucking retarded.

There are also NO gadgets what so ever. Isn't this the reason people see James Bond? To see him shoot lasers out of his watch and parachute come out of his shoe? I was completely shocked about this. Did they just forget or did they make a conscious effort towards this. I mean there is NO Q and no bad ass technology whatsoever...which is what makes a bond film a bond film imo.

They must be taking bond in a new direction! No gadgets, no bad ass cars (instead they've got him driving around in a Ford Edge..wtf?), and no plethora of hot women to bang either.

I was really disappointed!

I don't think they had gadgets in Casino Royale either? Or hardly any compared to the old Bond films. If you notice with Royale, Bond's taken a big departure from the old girls/cars/gadgets franchises and is going the Bourne route ie, trying to look more 'real.'

So I wouldn't be expecting any gadgets and stuff in Qauntum when I watch it.

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

Casino Royale was back to the start of bonds career.

There are no gadgets yet because i guess in the timeline of things they havnt been created :)

I think we may start to see them creeping in over the next few films, as long as daniel craig stays on board

I thought that at the time !

Saw this tonight .. thought it was excellent - Craig is the most realistic of the Bond's and a fine brooding actor. The movie was high octane, and fast paced. More a study of how Bond gets his revenge, than tracking down a baddy in an underground lair with a penchant for white pussy cats.

If anything I prefer it to Casino (which I re-watched the night before in preperation).

The next instalment should be interesting - they've fully established Craig's Bond : so now they need to give him a big challenge and adversary.

agreed i like this bond better than the pierce brosnan films to be honest, more realistic and way much better actor....to my opinion of course.....

this is a cool blood bond!!....

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

Caught it last night. It's good but not great, it's obviously a continuation of Casino Royale and the impact of seeing a new Bond is somewhat lost with Quantum. But as an in-between movie, it does a good job of developing Bond's character further.

Didn't like the chase scenes, I think they were badly shot. Bourne had that shaky camera thing going, now Bond has this blurred action thing going. The action in Casino Royale was much better shot.

Did notice they're setting up Quantum to be an MI6 arch-nemesis, I think Bond films have always lacked something like that?

What Quantum sorely lacked was a good villain/megalomaniac and a good ol' plot to take over the world. This dude had no charisma, no presence, and being part of an uber secret organisation whose infiltrated MI6, he's best plan is to become a country's utilities supplier? Come on. As much as I appreciate the whole 'realism' angle, that's just fucking lame. It doesn't do justice to the Bond heritage and certainly not a good antithesis to Craig's Bond. Reminds me of Superman Return's Lex Luthor, up against the Man of Steel, he hatches a plot to create new/more real estate ... WTF.

I do like what they've done with the technology or lack of gadgets. It's obvious they exercised restraint and only outfitted MI6 with the cool stuff (which looks very much like Surface). But I do miss seeing more Aston Martin porn.

I think at some point, hopefully with the next Bond, we'll see a bit more panache in the character, a hint of the old Bonds. Even though they've 'rebooted' the character and is giving him more depth now, the class and exoticness of the old Bond is lacking and I hope that will be the next evolution of Craig's Bond.

The Bond chick didn't look so hot, prefered the redhead. And that scene with her coated in oil and splayed across the bed was cool.

#1124031Post 36 of 49

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

^^^ That was actually a reference to the bedscene from Goldfinger, sir ;)

I TOTALLY loved Quantum of Solace. Never seen such a bad ass Bond not relying on over the top gadgets and what not, but back to basics shit.

Also no plot to take over the world / super weapon whatever bullshit was great.

I think it was the most "realistic" Bond so far. Fucking cold blooded...

I'm sorry Mr Connery, but I have a new favorite Bond.

#1124033Post 37 of 49

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

Ah I don't remember Goldfinger anymore, that's cool.

I like the direction of the current Bond, but I still think at some point Bond has to bring back some of the class and panache, otherwise Bond would just be Bourne. Not all of it, not the over the top product placement and completely unbelieveable action, it's nice to see a human Bond now, but just some of the suaveness and coolness. Right now Craig's Bond still feels like a diamond in the rough.

#1124046Post 38 of 49

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

Craig's Bond is a work in progress - remember, this followed on from Casino and he'd only just made his 2nd hit for "00" status.

Now his character has been established they can go for more subtlety in the 3rd one, as we already know what he's capable of.

#1126959Post 39 of 49

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

in the event that no one knows this, casino royale was actually the first bond novel to be written about an agent by the name of jimmy bond. the bond story has pretty much been reborn, thus the lack of gadgetry, give it time it will come.

#1126971Post 40 of 49

Re: James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008)

Better than the last bond but still shit compared to any with Sean Connery or Golden Eye...and a couple more...but I can see fagot boy coming into the role nicely. Compared to Casino Royal this was much better.
