Let's hope so, this could be what T3 should've been.

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

christian bale for teh winz! i never thought about it, but i think he'd make a perfect john connor.

i think this will be about a 'surge' against the skynet a few years after the nuclear holocaust.

here's a quick question that comes to mind: anyone ever consider that the Terminator series could be viewed as a segue into The Matrix series?

This is looking kick ass. Been following the trailers and concept art.

I read it was McG who persuaded Bale to star in this.

Hmmm....lets not start sucking each others dicks just yet...we'll see... I think it certainly looks better than the third,,,but I am interested in how they developed the plot rather than the effects, fights etc...

hehe I was referring to all the comments above... The thing about terminator...I read somewhere a while back that although Schwarzenegger is not gonna be acting they were going to superimpose his face by cgi on some other guys body...to keep it true for hardcore fans...

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

I've been reading stuff that indicates this will be pretty cool, and it's all from McG who's had to clear up some rumours:
Earlier today the folks at Total Film posted a series of rumor-killing facts about the upcoming film Terminator Salvation. The rumors have all been festering on the internet over the past few months, but have not been confirmed nor denied by director McG. And when Total Film had a chance to sit down with McG this past week, they ran all of the rumors by him. The result was four interesting revelations about the next Terminator movie.

 1. The ending that was previously reported by AICN is not the real ending:
“That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.”
2. James Cameron did not give his blessing to the production:
“I did go to see James Cameron. He didn’t give us his blessing, but he didn’t shit all over our movie. When Jim was making Alien, he was following the great Ridley Scott, so he knows how we feel.”
3. Christian Bale wasn’t always so gung-ho to do the pic:
“I met Christian when he was shooting The Dark Knight. He told me to fuck right off, he didn’t want to do it. He said, ‘Write it so that it could be read cold on stage and I’ll think about doing it.’”
4. Arnold may appear, but he will be recreated with CGI:
“We’re trying to synthesise a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800.”
All very interesting stuff if you ask me, but it won’t do much to quell the outbreak of rumors and hearsay on the web. Within these revelations, though, come a few reasurances to fans who were expecting some craziness. John Connor isn’t a robot, which is probably a good thing, and Christian Bale only signed on because the script lived up to his standards — standards that we have come to see are pretty high.
It sounded more like a case of McG convincing Bale to act in it, so it might not be a case of Bale > McG.

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

When I first heard about this project, I wasn't really looking forward to it - the last Terminator was Arnold's continuing skid of bad movies he was on since Batman & Robin. It didn't help that Nick Stahl didn't make for a very interesting John Connor, Claire Danes didn't make for a very convincing Mrs. Connor (and got over her slain fiancée pretty damn quickly) and the Terminatrix was a fucking bore.

When I saw that McG was directing it, I was cringing - this is the guy that came up with the idea for the television show The O.C. (basically a Beverly Hills 90210 clone) and directed the two Charlie's Angels films. Not exactly the guy I had in mind for something like the Terminator franchise, and I had images of a Terminator booty dancing in a pair of tighty whities like Cameron Diaz did in the Charlie's Angels.

But there was a turning point - James Cameron gave his blessing for the project (this is a guy who is notoriously protective of his work), Christian Bale got cast in the role (which I thought was a joke when I first heard it) and then Jonathan Nolan (the guy who was responsible for writing the darker elements of The Dark Knight, came up with the idea for Memento and adapted The Prestige) got signed to write it.

Now I've got to say, I'm genuinely curious if this is going to turn out as good as it looks - it really has got that apocalypse/humanity hanging by a thread vibe to it that the third movie was completely lacking. Here's hoping it lives up to the very convincing hype it's managing to convey in each trailer.

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

Ugh. Remember how disappointed you were after seeing the new Indiana Jones last summer? More of the same here. It's basically a zombie movie, with the zombies being substituted with the Terminator mythology. As far as an action film goes, it's competent, and it's better than The Rise of the Machines, but not by much. I get the feeling that Christian Bale got to fuck around a lot with the making of this, as he keeps talking about how much he had influence on the original script (getting Jonathan Nolan, the writer behind Memento and the two Batman movies), and sat with McG in the editing room. He sounds a lot like Ed Norton did a few years ago.

Go in with low expectations.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! After the epic fail of Wolverine, I thought Star Trek and this are gonna be the sci-fi flicks of the year.

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

i'd still watch this anyway ... i think the only people who would really bothered by it would be those hardcore sci-fi geeks .. the only terminal movie that had a true story and concept was the very first one anyway imo other than that its all about the action sequences and the body count as long as the general story in this isn't too far fetched and the action sequences are cool with tons of body count i seriously don't think anyone would be that bothered

4/5 in Empire...

That's all I'm saying. And they slated Wolverine.

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

I thought it was pretty awesome. The entire series was always more about kick-ass action than anything else, and this movie delivers. Better than T3 for sure imo. Plus, the homage to previous movies in this one is great (if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about).

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

Saw it, enjoyed it. Sam Worthington > Christian Bale, but to be fair, Bale didn't have as much screen time or any chance to show his character except 1 or 2 scenes. But Worthington was great, he moved just like Arnie the Terminator in some scenes: The set of his jaw, his brow, the way he kinda moved his whole torso as he scanned the area.

The scene with Worthington hanging from chains, that was some shitty CG though. It looked like he was wearing a painted-on skin-tight suit, they ought to have done a better job and did some nice camera work considering it's quite a 'pivotal reveal' scene.

Not sure why they cast Bonham Carther in this, she looked so out of place.

Star Trek > Terminator.

Oh and ...

Re: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (2009)

Saw this and liked it...not quite the first one or the second one but nearer to them than the third thats for sure...the only thing I found strange is that no one realizes that Sam Worthington doesn't know shit about the time he is living in and he doesn't seem to question it much while others don't question the fact that he doesn't know shit? Whats up with that? Anyway the film is worth watching and I didn't feel I wasted my time...also the arnie thing was pretty sweet. It surprised me for sure.
