thinking about seeing it tonight, looks pretty cool, but potentially (if not done right) a big piece of shite.

so has anyone seen it yet? thoughts? review? :WinkNSmi:

for those who have just arrived on planet earth, more info about the movie can be found  here

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow

It's not bad but it's definitely more eye candy than anything else. I kind of found it to be a second class Indiana Jones, with some amazing eye popping visual effects.

Don't expect any serious character development, just some great visuals and some nice cameo work by Giovanni Ribisi and Angelina Jolie.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow

seems like a good movie to go into zooted...

kind of like Denny's when your skull drunk...but if you were to experience the two sober, it would suck!

I think that it looks really stupid. Probably wouldn't even bother renting it. But if someone else does see it, I'd like to hear what they have to say.

for anyone wanting to see a good movie, check out Garden State. I saw it the other night and it was awesome...such a refreshing film, apart from all the crap that comes out these days.

peace, Steve

if angelina jolie keeps her shirt on through the whole movie, then it's a flop. i say go rent Pee Wee's Big Adventure instead. great movie

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow

not to change the subject, but speaking of a 'good' movie, I watched "American History X," for the first time a few days ago....freakin wicked!

Ed Norton was pumped...but now he's a skinny dude.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow

Standard comments here "If Angelina keeps her shirt on...." "This movie looks gay" ... "WTF is up with that eyepatch??" Come on guys.. it's Saturday buy let's try thinking for more than a second about a reply  ... If you're looking for a movie that's "good to get zooted and see" than this is prolly it. The story's decent and it doesn't take a B.A. in psychology to follow. Tons of action, and it doesn't take itself half as serious as the last couple Star Wars flicks.. which were a complete waste of time except for the special effects obviously. This one isn't such a waste.. though it's not as cool and deep as, say, Indiana Jones.. it does provide a good ride while it lasts. It's also at least an original idea.. with all the other total crap movies and sequel # 4's that have come out over the last year or so.. this one is a breath of fresh air frankly. You're just jaded if you can't enjoy this one at least a little bit

Great point! All those extra e's really spelled out your reaction to and thoughts about AHX. You should join some kind of ultra debate squad.

Basically, I loved the movie for its artistry, simplicity, and complexity, all at the same time. Artistry, because it captures the feel of campy action movies from the 40s/50s, Simplicity for it's simple plot (my girlfriend didn't ask any questions during the movie!), and for it's Complexity, for it's amazing CG graphics.

Don't go in there expecting some magnum opus... but it's a great adventure movie that wasn't quite up to par with summer blockbusters or winter movies.

I saw the making of and something like this movie, completely done on blue screen, is something no one has tried. I'm definitely going to see it. I just expect some entertainment.
