Re: Sunshine

Didn't know Underworld did the soundtrack. It looks like another 'apocalyptic, end of the world' movie, set in space.

Re: Sunshine

I liked it too. The characters were good and the movie was damn pretty too. Worth seeing anyway.

Re: Sunshine

I'm thinking to go see it tonight. I love space movies. Didn't know that the sound track is by Underworld. Makes me want to see it even more. :)

Re: Sunshine

Just saw this. Good film and good soundtrack.

Re: Sunshine

It seems conflicted between attempting to be 2001 and The Abyss or Alien. First bad movie Danny Boyle has made Sure The Beach was chessy, but still good. Was hoping for more of a metaphysical direction.

I did feel a bit of that too, with more cinematographer and those astronaut suits feeling more 2001, but all up, I gotta hand it to Boyle for shooting the film. It's definitely one of the better sci-fi flicks in recent times. Actually while watching Sunshine, I was reminded of the Fountain, both are pretty similar in that not-so-mainstream execution of scifi/fantasy flicks.

I didn't like the plot ending with that sunburnt-heatstroke maniac, I guess that's where the Alien-conflict arose. You're right about the more metaphysical direction, maybe something more Solaris-esque.

Re: Sunshine

I was really disappointed. You can tell the plot from the very beginning. Great visuals adn brilliantly linked soundtrack. But shite film overall in terms of storyline and originality.

As said above its a 2001 botch-job; but also direct link to that other 1970's scifi flick with the botanical gardens in space. (Ill find the name_)

Re: Sunshine

Silent Running

(according to wiki - the space gardens were a direct imitation from silent running - who knows)

Re: Sunshine

I cannot wait to see this movie. It never came out in a theatre near me, so I have to wait for its release on dvd. Long live Danny Boyle.

Re: Sunshine

This movie was awesome and Danny Boyle has yet to dissappoint me. Heck I even liked A life less ordinary. The comparasions to Kurbrick are also warranted in that when Boyle picks as specific genre to do, he reinvents it.

Re: Sunshine

I'm sure Boyle knew exactly what Sunshine would be up against (2001, Alien, et al) when he took on the job.

Re: Sunshine

Sorry peeps this was a piece of shite for me.

Not original and not suspenseful. The only redeeming factor was Cliff Curtis. It picks elements of other movies in the genre like a deranged vulture and regurgitates them again, read: 2001, Silent Running, Event Horizon, Solaris, (defintely not The Fountain now that's a movie) Mission to Mars, Red Planet, Supernova etc. etc.

Sunshine

So rented this last night and liked it. Was surprised to find out that Underworld did the musical score. Worth watching even if it is just for Underworld. The song when the credits role is awesome.

Re: Sunshine

Saw this movie over the weekend. Soundtrack like everyone else has said is good. I was enjoying the movie immensely until they destroyed it by bringing in that freaky horror aspect with the captain from the previous ship.

75% good.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW...

I really haven't enjoyed a space movie since 2001 space odyssey... AMAZING!

Re: Sunshine

Finally rented this on Blu Ray and I have to say that any flaws in the story were busily overlooked by me because of the soundtrack and stunning visuals.
