WTLY, or more like 2003. Didn't see a thread on here and thought this deserved one.
What a wild movie. Gore and sex, mostly gore, but a nice dose of sex. Weird wonderful freaks and oddities, Zombie created a throughly gruesome world of metal infused psychopaths, that was the highlight for me, the ambiance. I thought for a minute it was going to give me nightmares, but the movie always stays fun, even though I think it goes far deeper than they typical slice-em-dice-em movie. And huge points for bring a fresh take this tired genre- I never felt like a has seen this movie a dozen times before despite the very conventional plot.
It is really well made but avoids pretension- artsy and folksy at the same time. The cinematography and editing were beautiful, if disgusting. And there was a hip self awareness to the direction and acting.
I'm not a gore/slasher type of movie fan, but this movie is so well done that has a far broader appeal than to just to core audience.
