While I know this belongs in the movies section (great flick btw, just watched yesterday/Sunday) or possibly even in the Politics section (considering the international problems it created between Israel and the State of Uganda), just wanted to see if anyone knows of this and what went down?

I had no clue about this incident until I happened to watch Reel to Real on the History Channel yesterday. What an incredible depiction of events in the movie and courage on part of those who carried out the swift rescue operation.

this is the one about operation thunderbolt right? yeah I had no clue this happened until I saw this flick a liitle while back. it's weird how Uganda was manipulated like that.

I wouldn't say Uganda were "manipulated" moreso than they were siding up Palestenian Terrorists and offering them "refuge" (of sorts) through their act of Piracy. imo they had it coming

its one of the most brilliant movies I have seen and has won an award (maybe 2) for its accurate depiction of events. A MUST SEE.

an absolutely amazing rescue operation...it should be studied over and over again.

A little interesting tidbit, the terrorists who were holding the Israeli passengers at the airport made one huge f^&in mistake...the airport was designed by an Israeli, so the military eventually managed to get their hands on a blueprint of the place and plan out their rescue. D'oh!

yea I did hear about that. Another "rumor" I just dug up about the movie is that in the movie, they show Yitzhak (sp?) asking a junior member of his staff to break the news to UK / US that Israel is planning a rescue operation for the passengers, which meant the US was in the black about this going down.

Moreover, Israel had apparently worked it out with the Nigerians with refuelling their planes during the mission.

However it is rumored that that the planes were actually refuelled by a refulleing plane from US Air Force. Obviously this is something from someone I know (an 82 year old gentleman) so believe it if you will (or not)
