For some reason this has caught a lot my attention ... has anyone been lucky enough to see this? I am curious to get a feel for this ... It is currently being played in selected theaters.

Re: " Children of Men "

i just watched it the other day, it was very good. great idea for a movie, and the post apocalyptic feel of the movie was very well filmed, the director did a great job. and the movie gets pretty crazy half way in and i thought i was watching saving private ryan all over again. recommended.

Re: Children of Men

Great movie and soundtrack. I loved the homeland security signs everywhere.

Re: Children of Men

saw this last night, absolutely superb movie. one of the best i've seen in a very long time... acting, script, bleak "post-apocolyptic" landscapes, music - all top notch. highly recommend this!

Re: Children of Men

excellent film in all aspects...

Re: Children of Men

I think it's going to fall under that category of Dark City and City of Lost Children. Outstanding movies, but it will be overlooked.

Re: Children of Men

most likely. i read a review the other day saying how it deserves a bunch of awards but will probably not get any and in a few years become regarded as a "classic"

Re: Children of Men

^^seems like that is the norm with really good movies and the general public....

Re: Children of Men

Really good movies and the general public don't see eye to eye.

Re: Children of Men

Saw this movie over the weekend. The guy operating the handheld camera deserves an award. The one scene where the government storms the camp, (where blood splatters on the cam) is one continuous shot, lasts about 10 minutes and probably covers three quarters a mile of ground, most of it running. Absoloutely brilliant.

Re: Children of Men

^^im glad someone noticed that part too. i said the same thing, like man this is one long shot, this rocks........

Re: Children of Men

just caught this last night... such a killer movie. threehills, I thought the same thing. that camera man definitely did the job right.

I watched it at a place here in KC called the VIP room (my first time there). they have 50 leather recliners in a 21+ only atmosphere with a waitress serving a full bar. my first time sitting in a movie theater with a bucket of beer in front of us, plus me & des were 2 of only 3 people in the theather. awesome experience for an awesome movie

we have one of those two, called Cinetopia. pretty cool, but 13 bucks for a matinee is a bit steep

Re: Children of Men

watched the screener last night, bad ass movie has that 28 days later main charaters surviving together kind of feel imo. it was kind of weak that they didnt use original artists in the soundtrack...but i enjoyed it very much. Definatly agree that that long shot what amazing, my favorate part of the movie

i agree, but the extra 5 bucks to have leather recliners, practically the entire theater to yourself, and a near-guarantee of getting lucky is worth it imo

#791315Post 31 of 52

Re: Children of Men

haha yeah. plus no kids - biggest bonus.

#791549Post 32 of 52

Re: Children of Men

You don't have kids?

#791688Post 33 of 52

Re: Children of Men

no i dont. but i was talking about the 21 and over theater - no kids talking or screaming through the movie. i saw one recently at the "regular" theater and there was a little kid with those shoes that have flashing lights on them, and his mother was just letting the little bastard pretty much run around, so it was flashing lights every 5 seconds. very hard to concentrate. 8 bucks well spent. :x

of course, not all kids are a pain during movies, but with some movies i'd rather not even take the risk.

#791719Post 34 of 52

Re: Children of Men

 I'd much rather deal with a waitress giving me a bucket of beer than a flashing kid running past me

agreed.

Re: Children of Men

best adapted screenplay, cinematography, and film editing oscar nominations.

probably deserving of more noms imo, but good to see it got a couple regardless.

Re: Children of Men

Just saw it on DVD and it totally rocked. Cuaron is a genius, I love the feel he gives to that movie with his documentary style of shooting and long takes.

Funny thing: out all of the murmuring in foreign languages in the scene where the Fish convene to chose a new leader, all of a sudden I hear "Mrsh o picku mater", Macedonian for take a hike or I'll fuck your mother. The things I learn from Erzina

Re: Children of Men

I saw this on pay per view last week and thought the concept of the movie was great. The scene towards the end when Clive Owen and the mother walk out with the baby and the military stops firing into the building was powerful.

The movie in general had some leftist view points that I'm wondering were added for the movie in the times were in. I'm sure conservatives don't like this movie. My main complaint was that we didn't get to see the Human Project people and who they were, what they were about, and what happens with humanity. I felt cheated that they could've done so much more.

Theo (Clive Owen) on the other hand grows from an apathic drunk into a guy who's willing to fight for a future, no matter the politics. The core message imo is not so much political.

As for the Human Project and what happens with humanity, I think it would've killed the movie by making it pretty unrealistic/cheesy (the hero saves the day, we can all fuck 'n' breed again, yippiekayay, ...)
