I had the chance to see this movie over the weekend and am very glad that I did. It was an excellent movie...one of the best that I've seen in a while!! Very entertaining and suspenseful!! The last 30 minutes will leave you with your jaw dropped. I didn't get to see the original so I don't know how it is compared to it but I really enjoyed it. For anyone going to the movies this weekend, I saw skip on The Village and check out The Manchurian Candidate!

Yes this is great! :Bingo:

It pales in comparison to the original. I know some folks are opposed to b&w but get over it and rent it. This one was ok but they should have changed the title. It has nothing to do with Manchuria so you're left kinda scratching your head. It's so much better than Jonathan Demme's last movie though which btw was another remake or reimagining or whatever they call it.

Re:: The Manchurian Candidate-----> Great Movie!!!

This movie has been in a long line of movies that I just refuse to go see. The original was such a brilliant film and very poignant and influential for it times (not suggesting that I'm that old).

Hollywood sucks nowadays. It seems as if no one has the ability to write an original screenplay. Everything is either a remake or based on a book. There's just no respect for the quality of past times.

Totally agree. Although I haven't seen the new one, the original is excellent.

I hate it when Hollywood bastardize classic films for the sake of $$$.

Open Your Eye (Abre los ojos) was a great movie, but Cameron Crowe turned it into Vanilla Sky which wasn't bad but was nowhere near the original.

The Ring and Ringu, the original is FAR better.

And I love the 1968 version of the Thomas Crown Affair. Steve McQueen :RightOn: Although the remake wasn't too bad.

what about sylvestor stallone in "get carter"? classic original, BAD remake

jonathan demmes last remake was The Truth about charlie i believe, which i didnt even bother with

manchurian candidate looks great though, although i have no basis for comparison, never saw the original

It was a remake of "Charade" with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Mark Wahlberg and Thandi Newton played their parts. Mark Wahlberg just might be the world's worst actor.

i agree

boogie nights kicked ass, but that was pretty much an ensemble piece, no real STAR

The Manchurian Candidate?

Did anyone else think this was just a tad bit far fetched? even for a thriller..

Defo not a good film to see on a first date with a girl u like

#305703Post 14 of 26

the original was ALOT better, as in man on fire, oceans eleven and others.

#305792Post 15 of 26

^ yeah thats true... the film just pissed me off and i was falling asleep at bits too..

#306177Post 16 of 26

The original Ocean's Eleven was good? I thought it was a bunch of in jokes between Sinatra and company done up as a heist film.

Good? I'd say more nostaligic.

And yeah, Manchurian Candidate 2004 was a bit far fetched but I thought it was a respectable update to the original. I think they didn't even try to outdo the original, but more kind of paid homage to it.

I had the perspective of watching the remake first before the original. The 2004 version was decent, but I just couldn't fully immerse myself in the story. Now when I watched the original I was just awestruck by the nature of the story. The manchurian candidate in the context of the cold war makes oh so much sense.

i didnt see the origanel but to be honest.. the conspiracy theory behind it was interesting but it was just pulled off really badly i thought. Plus the way once there names were said in full they were under complete control that just wasnt right..

I felt like punching someone after seeing that film... fuk it ive seen alot worse to be fair..

#307685Post 19 of 26

I think the remake delivered for the most part...When Vice President choked that one guy. I haven't seen the original in a while, but the remake was as disturbing as Jacob's Ladder.

#307823Post 20 of 26

I thought it was good. Definately one of the best Denzel movies I have seen!

Surprised some didnt like it

#307900Post 21 of 26

You said it! When Denzel shot that guy in the face...I haven't seen Denzel take a shot that good since he shot John Lithgow's knee cap in Ricochet.

Re: The Manchurian Candidate-----> Great Movie!!!

just saw this last night. didnt get why bennett went from trying to save people to becoming an assassin til i read the book description today. the movie doesn't really tell you that they are able to be "controlled" by a code word. that part of the movie had me confused, but i get it now.

not a standard role for Denzel. honestly the only reason i waited so long to watch it was because i was tired of seeing him play a cop or lawyer, but i really liked this one.

i'll give it 4.5 pickles
