Ive been out of the movies lately, so I was wondering if anybody can recommend something good????

Here a few that I remember:

Audition (Sick suspense, kinda gory) - Miike Takashi Visitor Q (sick humor) - Miike Takashi Ichii the Killer (karate & lots of killing, very gore) - Miike Takashi Dead or Alive [trilogy] (japanesse mafia) - Miike Takashi Dark Water (Horror) - Hideo Nakata Dolls (Great photo) - Takeshi Kitano Suicide Club (drama, kinda funny) - Shion Sono

As you can see Im a big fan of asian cinema :YeaRight: Is anyone in to this kind of movies????
i read somewhere that 'suicide club' was rather disturbing. not sure about funny there revi. to each his own.
na, its not disturbing, is just a movie with lots of teen suicides.
the most disturbing parts are in the begining where like 50 girls jump in to the metro rail & 20 mins later when they show a piece of human flesh rolled :)

#231760Post 6 of 48

again: disturbing.

#231761Post 7 of 48

and Ringu is good, much better than the bastardized version.

#231768Post 8 of 48
and Ringu is good, much better than the bastardized version.
yup, I agree, I think only the photo of the american version is better than the original

Also got the 3 parts Ringu, Ringu 2 & Ringu 0, watch them in that order

Try dark water, is from the same director: Hideo Nakata i think dark water is better than ringu 8)

Re:: Recommend Good Movies

OLDBOY - it's a Korean film that came in second place at this year's Cannes. It's a mother of all revenge films with a monster of a plot twist/revalation that blew me away. I cannot recommend it enough.

THE FIVE VENOMS - Classic Kung Fu film from the Shaw Brothers (one of the chief inspirations for Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill). One of their absolute best.

JU-ON - THE GRUDGE - not quite for everyone's taste, but it's being remade for this fall with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead. See the Japanese version first, make up your own mind if it's this year's The Ring, or something else entirely.

INTERSTELLA 5555 - Takes Daft Punk's Discovery album and uses it for a soundtrack for an anim? in the vein of Captain Harlock or Star Blazers (but with a much more fantasy angle). Amazing idea, excellent execution.

Versus is another rediculous one. Has some decent fighting in it.

Re:: Recommend Good Movies

Here are a few more:

Full Contact - Chow Yun Fat manages to show that he's the ultimate bad guy in this heist/revenge film. What happens when he gets two of his fingers blown off in a double cross? Straps on two prosthetic fingers and learns to shoot with the other hand. Way over the top (with the opening featuring an exotic dancer busting out to Extreme's "Get The Funk Out" ;)), but still quite good.

Internal Affairs - Not the Andy Garcia, Richard Gere and Mike Figgis directed film, but a Hong Kong film that features a very cool idea; two undercovers unknowingly working against each other and for different sides of the law. Followed up by two sequels, but the first, as usual is the best. It's being remade by Tom Cruise's production company and possibly will be directed by Martin Scorcesse (!) which offers some hope.

The Mission - Five men are hired to protect a powerful, crime boss who's the target of a rival faction of Triads. Nice story about loyalty, friendship and mutual professional respect. If you liked Leon: The Professional, there's a very good likelihood you'll like this.

Hit Team - Has the look of John Woo, but without the Christian imagery trappings and not quite the soul either. Still a pretty good caper flick about a team of corrupt cops working outside of the law to bring down the criminals that the Hong Kong justice system can't touch.

Bangkok Dangerous Directed by the Pang Brothers (who also did The Eye - see below) the story follows a deaf mute hitman who manages to fall for a shopkeeper, but who runs awry of the local crime boss. Unbelievably well shot ending.

The Eye - A girl who was blinded at a young age is given a cornea implant that allows her to see dead people. Sounds like Sixth Sense (which it does have similarities to) but also has some of the better elements of The Mothman Prophecies, The Ring and a couple of other neat twists. Has some pretty unsettling moments of it's own.

Life of Ninja is like the Showgirls of Ninja films from the early 1980's, and is so undescribably awful I've never laughed so hard in my life. Ninja training consists of (according to this film) japanese women mudwrestling, japanese women being dipped in ice cold water wearing little more than white cloth bikinis, throwing of ninja stars at pie plates with unhappy faces drawn on them, Ninja women gaining tactical advantage over their openents by flashing their breasts at foes and then striking them down while they are dumbfounded. So awful it makes Sho Kosugi look like fucking Kenneth Branaugh. All scored to what seems to be a canned porn soundtrack.

Monday directed by Sabu. It's one of the funnier, stunningly shot films from a very promising emerging director. A Japanese salaryman wakes up in a hotel room unable to remember what happened the night before, and tries to recall his evening from the night before, starting from a funeral to his misadventures with a gangster to what goes horribly wrong from there. It's amazing how this guy can shift from slapstick to some pretty incredibly distrubing imagery without missing a beat.

Saw The Motorcycle Diaries last week and it's fantastic. 'Che' Guevara on a trip around South America before he became revolutionary so (don't worry) there's no politics... and Gael Garc?a Bernal is a Hollywood star in the making. :Bingo:

Re: Recommend Good Movies

Honestly I'm getting bored by Asian cinema. All the plots seem to be about revenge or the aftermath of revenge. Enough!

#330515Post 31 of 48

Watch Infernal Affairs - much different take on Asian Cinema. Martin Scorcesse is remaking it as The Departed with Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Diggstown with James Woods and Lou Gosset Jr. It's got quite an interesting ending. Somewhat of a plot twist if you will.

I saw Walk the Line this week and I thought it was a good movie. Well acted and both Phoenix and Witherspoon sang their parts. It runs a little longer than most movies, but worth watching.

Re: Recommend Good Movies

Crash - excellent movie, 5 stars.

Interestingly, if you're into it, Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster" is pretty good too.

Don't bother with "Stealth", although, there is a bikini scene with Jessica Biel - daaaaamn!
