A History of Violence
Re: A History of Violence
Not bad. I thought the ending was kinda eh, but overall pretty good. I'm quite surprised William Hurt got an oscar nomination considering he didn't do much in the flick.
Re: A History of Violence
he was only like for 15 min @ the end
Re: A History of Violence
i thought it was a great movie... different and well done.
Re: A History of Violence
I thought the movie was ok. They had the polt for making a really good movie but i feel the acting and just the screen play let it down. The end was really funny. I should not give anything away but lets just say the big boss man had only 4 gaurds and the way he was looking for his key to open the door while a very dangerous hit man his in his house was a joke. outta 10 i would give this a 6.
Re: A History of Violence
The flow of the movie was a little slow, but the short graphic action scenes, the explicit rough sex scenes and great acting was just enough to keep it from falling into boredom. But if you are looking for a light wieght fun movie avoid this movie at all costs. If you have the stomach and love unique movies that stray from the hollywood norm that delves into ethical subject matters that most people stray away from, give it a try. you may appreciate this movie as much as I did.

Great acting u think so?? I thought the girl could not act to save her life. The sex scenes were ok and she is hot but the movie could have been done better don't u u think?? The end of the movie was a bit comical and too abrupt. I not saying this was a bad movie but it was not as good as alot of people have it reviewed it to be.
Re: A History of Violence
Very good film...although it seemed boring in the begining!!
Re: A History of Violence
Great film and as always Ed Harris was quality.
Why do people seem to constantly question films that don't run at 100mph.
Anyone know what happened to Cronenberg directing 'I Kill'?

Re: A History of Violence
I thought the movie was an interesting study of a man's hidden past and how one single act can lead to different things spiraling out of control--the media portraying him as a hero, his wife dealing with his lies (and somehow succumbing to the idea of violence as evidenced with the love scene), his son's behavior being affected and their relationship and the sheriff's reaction. Surprisingly, the roles of the gangsters in the film were completely incidental. They were only there as supporting cast to fill in on the history and for the culmination of what began in the deli.
Would have preferred the gangster bit more properly fleshed out, and the ending was kinda ... idealized for a movie that seemed kinda gritty with its portrayal of violence.
(Yeah, opening scene was cool. Very understated and matter of fact)
Re: A History of Violence
Thought this movie to be okay... just average.
Re: A History of Violence
This was one of the best movies from 2005.
Re: A History of Violence
Just finished watching this movie. It was pretty damn good..the opening scene is really awesome and the plot keeps you interested...overall, very good acting, interesting dialogue, and wicked shooting scenes!!
Re: A History of Violence
Saw this movie last night.... considering how amazingly well Viggo Mortensen developed the personality of Aragorn, he just brutally ruined it in this movie. I was so disappointed in the way he carried out the Mid-Western goody two shoes dad to brutal philly killer. UGH!!!
Maria Bello was such a depressing pick for the movie. I dont know if it was the way she carried herself OR her acting but she was the 1 misfit (for me) throughout this movie. Right through I kept thinking.... is she REALLY the wife. I think she got this part because someone pushed buttons for her. This could NOT have been a casting mistake..... and if it was..... Jeez Loiuse....
I wont even start commenting on the daughters acting. By GOD they could've picked Dakota Fanning and called it quits.
And that son.... borderline gay / paranoid / angry supressed misunderstood youth ? I mean come on at one point he's living a perfectly sedate / passive life and suddenly he's this thug cause good ole dad shot a couple of crooks and became the town hero ? Who wrote the damn script ?
Ed Harris and the elder brother probably had the best performances in the movie.
What pisses me off about the movie the MOST is how it ended. So he comes home after this murdering rampage and then they show him forigven by his wife ? I mean didn't she already forgive him considering she's still in the house cooking meals for the kids or is there a "different" way of dumping your spouse in Indiana ?
Just very very disappointed with this shabby production.
Re: A History of Violence
a must see movie in my opinion... I really enjoyed this one at the movies
