I havent seen it and if some of you continue to say that it was better than Signs, by no means would I consider the movie an improvement . If you look at the wider picture (refering to SIGNS), it was the most ridiculous movie made by someone who has the potential to put together 6th sense. (The WORST movie I have EVER seen is Silent Warnings - cheap low budget imitation of Signs)

Signs = shitty movie line with a couple of awesome actors and an AMAZINGLY CRAFTED Alien suit.

There is NOTHING in that movie that makes it remotely intellectually challenging. Just a couple of spooks at times.

If someone can honestly tell me that they found a story line to Signs (lest I have completely missed it in the couple of times I whizzed through it), I would really appreciate it.

So that said, anything else release by mr. knight would be better than Signs.

But all said, I still wanna watch it.

I enjoyed this movie for what it really was, a love story. I wouldn't say it was the best movie ever, or even what I expected, but I would see it again. You can pretty much see right through the whole "twist" and even the second "twist". Don't expect to be scared.

If you go into it with an open mind, like others have said, you may enjoy it. Ivy's actor was awesome, and she pulled off her role very well. What she was able to face, and more over defeat, for love gives you goose bumps, if only for a little while.

ivy's sister was hott. :HitIt:
Again I urge you and I hope I'm not giving anything away here...If you're going to this movie hoping to be scared shitless you're wasting your time. Go in to this movie with an open mind and be prepared for anything...except being scared in a way that all of us are accustomed. Don't get me wrong, this movie has genuinely frightening moments but it is not and I repeat NOT a horror film or scary movie of any type.
Skahound, your movie reviews are about as good as your taste in DJs. :Rolling:

review...

Ok so I finally saw this movie last night and expecting to see a pissed of "those who'm we are not allowed to speak of", I was beyond disappointed.... unless of course there is a damn good possibility I didn't understand a lot of movie considering the mrs. was asking me Q's every 2 seconds through the movie and I missed quite a bit of the conversation but I'm guessing the movie has been out long enough to discuss the plot ??
You can pretty much see right through the whole "twist" and even the second "twist". Don't expect to be scared.
Now how on earth did you even tell the plot. Yes there were subtle signs of technology intrusion in their backward lifestyle but NOTHING that would give the plot away. Didn't realize it until the dude opened the box....
If you go into it with an open mind, like others have said, you may enjoy it. Ivy's actor was awesome, and she pulled off her role very well. What she was able to face, and more over defeat, for love gives you goose bumps, if only for a little while.
I did go in with an open mind and that's what disappointed me the most...... maybe I should have gone in thinking Mr. Shyamalan would redirect the sequel to unbreakable and I prolly would have enjoyed it some more....

Ivy DID play her part very well..... and so did nut-job-noah

^^^

I'm not really sure, I just knew for some reason. When whats his face was out galibanting around when he should have been indoors, and the "creature" walked onto the porch, I just got a sinking suspision. I also had the same suspision that Noah was psycho, so it all kind of came together. I have to admit I was a bit suprised when Ivy was wondering about and the "creature" showed up again. I still knew it was the retard.

I don't know, I just liked the movie. For some reason I just felt it was an excellent love story despite all of its flaws. And like I've said, Ivy was a great character and played to perfection by the actress. Such a powerful women to go through all of that, with her handicap nonetheless, all for her love. I know its cheesy, I'm just hopeless in that regard, even though I'm not really a believer in love such as that.

Re:: Movie Review - "The Village"

Bryce Dallas Howard (Ron's daughter) plays Ivy.Here's a pic

Re:: Movie Review - "The Village"

Noah WAS a pscyho, I didn't see a mystey behind that..... the one part that gave away the modern-day aspect was when Sigourney was using chrome plated scissor dips to clean towels for recovering sonny .....

more than the love-story aspect of it (which imo wasn't the main theme to the movie) the reason they moved into the forest was because all these people had lost someone extremely close to them in modern day life to gun shots / muggings / rapes etc. and so billionaire mr. walker buys a forest, gets a group of people willing to take part in this "real life experiment" by moving to a village in the middle of the forest and creating a horror story to keep people from running away from the jungle......

of course the time came when this chick HAD to go but the way it ended etc didn't fit into the entire movie scheme..... how he managed to squeeze love into a theme of moving back to your roots with a fictional ghost lurking the perimeter..... pretty shitty imo

Re:: Movie Review - "The Village"

I can honestly say I knew William Hurt's character had something to do with all that crazy shit when that creature came on to the porch and he was no where to be found.

#242330Post 50 of 78

The Village only surpassed Signs in shittiness. One of the worse of the year I'm sure.
The Village only surpassed Signs in shittiness. One of the worse of the year I'm sure.
While the the Village had a good theme made bad by the "others" in the forest.... imo signs was just utter gypsy circus nonsense of water fearing aliens.... get a life M Knight .....

#242332Post 52 of 78

my fave was unbreakable, but everyone seemed to hate that movie

havent seen the village, will probably rent it

#242333Post 53 of 78
havent seen the village, will probably rent it
to make more from your money, get kazaa and grab village, not even worth the rental......

so far the best in shyamalan's series remains 6th sense.....

#242334Post 54 of 78

Re:: Movie Review - "The Village"

i thought this movie would have been batter than it was... i just sat there at times hitting myself in the head at some of the stupidest parts imaginable... without trying to give it away... didnt anyone else think that the blind girl Ivy had no chance of making it?!?!?! i mean seriously, how is that believable... a half days journey in the woods, BLIND!!!... hmmmm... then to top off the fact that she was making this trip solo, Noah a borderline retard comes out of no where and escapes, with "the suit we keep hidden under the boards", i mean seriously that is dumb... the movie had serious potential if u ask me but all in all IT SUCKED! then the end was so stupid how they try and explain everything and why they were doing what they were doing... LAME movie... it got recommended to me to see it, and i recommend that you save your money... cheers :Cheerz:

#242414Post 56 of 78

Have you ever met a blind person? Blind people, specifically, have some sort of 6th sense or so it seems. At the very least their other senses are hightened significantly to make up for the lost sense. Like I said, this is even more prominent in the Blind.

One of my good friend's parent's are both blind. I can recall times when I came over and they knew it was me just by the way I knocked, or they heard my car, tehre are just so many nuances taking place in sound, manner and everything else people don't realize.

Without sounding smug Platinum, I think its obvious you've never known a blind person. Especially in there youth, their capable of things you can only imagine. As someone who has known many, I can assure you that Ivy making it through the forest blind is very probable. And that dodge move too, very plausible.

i dont know any blind people... i agree that they do have some sort of sixth sense and can do extraordinary things that most regular people could not do... the thing is im not knocking blind peoples abilities at all...

but i truly believe that a blind person whoever wherever could not run through woods they have never been in, without a cane for most of the time and

 1. come away without any scratches
 2. trick a retarded goblin guy to fall into a hole she had previously fallen in
 3. make a half days journey on pure instincts then make a half days journey back using the same instincts [people that can see prob would have gotten lost or at least lose direction]

i think blind people can do things i cant imagine them doing, but this was too much for me and i just dont agree.

#282332Post 58 of 78

biggest load of crap i've seen in ages imo. what made this movie suck even more is that someone told me how it ended beforehand

#300955Post 59 of 78

It's not a great movie in suspense or credibility of the story.

It is a funny / interesting concept and way of looking at / thinking about society and how one can best organise it. But, to be honest, it's not well worked out and contains some big gaps.

If you're in to the first: DON'T GO TO THIS MOVIE If you're in to the latter: MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT

Re: Movie Review - "The Village"

I really did not like this movie. First off I was hoping to be scared shitless but this was not the case and then once the entire premise was understood I wanted my money back.

#307713Post 62 of 78

WORST THAN I THOUGHT!!

man this is far the worst movie ever, its real shitty, the whole subject of the movie is the worst ever seen, so if you havent seen it, don't bother, go and see something else.

#361042Post 63 of 78

just was it last nite.. kinda dull & leaving you wtf for the 1st hour or so then about 20 mins before the end it all starts to come together.. not a great moive, but decent storytelling & imagination.

#361590Post 64 of 78

memo to Shyamalan: When you become famous for plot twists they are no longer unexpected nor impactful. In other words lose the formula you hack! :x

#361663Post 65 of 78
Thank you for your advice. Seeing as how you're a multi-million dollar film producer I should definitely heed what you say. Which film school did you graduate from again?
#361996Post 66 of 78

Because having film school credentials and a fat bank balance immediately bestow legitimacy. The guy takes us all for suckers. He creates stricking "visuals," hear me "visuals" but that's it. "What film school did you graduate from?"...please that's kind of pathetic.

Sorry "manboy" (if that is your real name). I quite enjoyed this. In fact I loved it! Does that make me a sucker? If so then sucker me up!

#362152Post 68 of 78
Because having film school credentials and a fat bank balance immediately bestow legitimacy.
Not immediately per se. There are plenty of film school graduates that come out and do nothing with their respective degrees/certifications.
The guy takes us all for suckers.
Well, call me Linda Lovelace.
He creates stricking "visuals," hear me "visuals" but that's it
I completely disagree with you. Try watching his films with an open mind next time and forget about thinking you're going to be scared shitless, it's not going to happen. As much as I would like to avoid the cliche, his movies are truely onions. Go for it man, think a little, it will make the whole experience that much more enjoyable.
"What film school did you graduate from?"...please that's kind of pathetic.
What's more pathetic than that is the fact that you can't understand humor and sarcasm on a mesage board. Maybe that's why you can't understand the deeper meaning of films and are only able to take them at face value.

Re: Movie Review - "The Village"

This movie sucks and sucks and sucks..... I expected a movie with a lot of scary moments and thinks like that. What the hell do we get???? SHIT !!!

#362908Post 70 of 78

Re: Movie Review - "The Village"
I expected a movie with a lot of scary moments
And why would you? Have any of his other moments been scary or full of scary moments? That was your problem to begin with.

#370691Post 71 of 78

Well Linda all I was saying is Shyamalan's films all follow the same structure. We are thrust into a world that looks like ours but isn't, we are lost for a bit (he hopes in awe and wonder which I was in The Sixth Sense but have not been since), then comes the almighty revelation to place the rest of the film in context. The formula cheapens his original vision makes his latest films look like parodys of the ones before them, as the storylines get flimsier and flimsier. How the hell could anyone afford to halt all flight paths over an area the size they were living on. Do you think that a $100 trillion dollar a year industry like Air Travel could be halted for the sake of a couple of omish with an axe to grind. Please. I enjoy a good deep emotionally affecting movie just as you do, accept I'm not willing to buy any narrative because the director happens to be lauded or I appreciated his previous films. I think Scorsese's brilliant but the movie Kundun was garbage. Get me?

and for sarcasm try this on for size. I really appreciated your reply. You are clearly an extreemly intelligent person who completely understands the nuances of human emotion reflected in that wonderful piece of opaque, deep cinema 'The Village'. You have the cerebral capacity to appreciate it on a level I can't comprehend. You are intelligent...intelligent...intelligent. :Naughty: Intelligent.

#370694Post 72 of 78

not my kind of movie, maybe i wasnt in mood, i will watch it again later....and that is scary, that you lived without technology, but you only get fooled by some ppl just for trying to keep you in the middle of the woods, damn....without internet damn....

#370838Post 73 of 78

i liked some other movies from m. night, but this? This was really a terrible movie, you wait and wait for something to happen, you think it's coming.. but no, nothing. If you want to see it, wait 'till a friend rents it, or wait untill it's on tv. 3/10

not sure m. night is all about drama, but he'd probably have a laugh at Linda and manboy's discussion.
