Re: Ultraviolet, don't read if you want to see the movie for yourself

so yeah, the movie was lame... Milla Jovovich is hot, but that's about all the movie has going for it. It's like Kill Bill meets a tuned down version of the Matrix with the special effects with a kind of Aeon Flux twist and a lame attempt to mimic Equalibrium's Gun Kata. She gets some pretty lame lines too. There's several decent fight scenes, but a lot of the movie, especially the beginning is CGI and poor CGI at that. The plot is kind of missing and skips a little every now and then. I don't know if it was just my crappy theater, but the camera seemed to be very shaky as well throughout most of the movie. The props and actual stages were decent, and the visual effects during the live action parts of the movie were good. But it's really just Milla showing off her body that makes the film anything worth while, at least to me. Went with 3 friends, one just went to sleep after the first 15-20 minutes of the film, the other 2 spent equal time making out and giving me evil death glares for suggesting we see the film.

Re: Ultraviolet

This was one of the worst movies ever to come out in a long time. It should have went straight to video then to late night cable or something. The graphics were way over done to the point where I hate graphics in movies now. The nudity was deffinately not worth it in the movie, I mean Milla is really hot but not worth the few bucks I spent seeing this awful movie. The story line really stinks and the acting is really bad too. If you have to see this movie, just rent it.

Ultraviolet

It looks like this movie is in its last days at the theaters because it's showing only at night now. This movie's plot sounded the most appealing to me of any movies now playing, which is why I chose this one to see this weekend.

It looks like this movie originated from comic books, given the comic book stills with Japanese terms in the opening credits. Since I am almost completely unfamiliar with modern comic books, though, I simply don't know.

This is yet another film with dazzling computer graphics effects, acrobatic karate fights and acrobatic sword fights, with a sole person continually slaying unlimited numbers of bad guys in the style of "The Matrix", "Kill Bill", "V for Vendetta", "Hero", "The Chronicles of Riddick", and endless others. My main complaint about such modern effects is that they too often depict actions that defy the laws of physics, such as causing a sidewalk to crack when jumping down on top of it, running upside down on a ceiling, dodging bullets in real time, and so on. Maybe viewers are supposed to accept such impossible feats because the story is based on a comic book, but such things still bother me.

This futuristic story is presented so as to sympathize with the revolutionaries living outside the city, who are trying to overthrow the totalitarian human regime inside, but the revolutionaries are few in number and are dying out. The revolutionaries are called Hemophages (Greek for "Bloodeaters"), which are basically vampires. The main character is a female assassin vampire played by Milla Jovovich. Milla looks great as usual, and there's even a darkened nude scene of her as she walks through a security tunnel.

For my taste the film was not particularly novel, and used too many overused modern themes: the child in danger, the modern evil totalitarian government that needs to be destroyed, dazzling but impossible computer graphics battles, impossible hologram projectors, vampires, and so on. But other than that, the story was pretty solid and visually impressive.

Overall, I'd say it was decent, especially if you like Milla or large-scale high-speed sword fights. When leaving the theater I heard a guy behind me remark to his girlfriend, "I feel like I just sat through a 2-hour video game." I'd say that sums it up pretty well.

Re: Ultraviolet

the lead comment from imdb looks like it sums it up:
Like a German techno video with badly translated Japanese one-liners for dialogue... only less coherent.
